In this SketchUp tutorial, I’m going to teach you how to use components and the follow me tool to create a dome structure with a pipe lattice structure.
While this dome looks complicated, it’s actually very simple to create in SketchUp. This simple, step by step tutorial will teach you how to extrude the skin, then use hidden geometry to create stepping, curving paths along which you can extrude your pipe structure.
You will probably want to download the extension “Pipe along path” which will allow you to create pipes centered around your latticework path. You can download that extension here -

OMG! I have been struggling with this dome on the building I showed you earlier. Pipe along path does a great job on this.
Also grouping or making components really helps control what's going on in your model. Thank you for this great video. Love it!

Thanks for watching! I've found that I save a lot of time when I try to organize my model into groups and components that make sense.

Do you have a picture of what you're looking for? You could model directly on a face with the hidden geometry if you just wanted one, but I'm having trouble visualizing what you're talking about. Thanks!
