This performance is incredible and quite different from Lara’s, however equally emotional. You honestly can’t compare an individual artist with a group because a group can create incredible harmonies, where an individual has the challenge of creating something so captivating by themselves. I also was skeptical initially months ago when I saw that they had covered this, I knew that they were incredibly talented, but I had also seen Lara’s performance. Glad to see both of you, please don’t overdo anything, Taylor please take care of yourself ❤.

“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version.
She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone.
Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on.

is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.
The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.
Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic

I think this performance has marked Forestella as a Cultural Institution on the new Global Scene. They contribute so much more than themselves, but they build a new Asian Scene in the world, in the likes of what Placido Domingo did when he tried to popularize opera music. These guys deserve to stand on that same stage like Domingo.

You guys already know “Forestella”! Here is another amazing cross-over group, named “Fortena”. There are 4 different tenors, counter tenor, contralto(part of counter tenor), leggiero tenor, and lyric tenor. Their voices and harmonization is really fantastic and have the power to move our minds. I recommend the their video, “ Neapolis”🙏🏻

I like crossover groups in Korea, so I'm glad you react like this.

I’d like to recommend you another crossover group from South Korea(from Phantom Singer 4 this year) I discovered recently. Its name is “Forténa” that consists four tenors(I’ve heard it’s the first crossover group with four tenors). This group has two count tenors which is unusual for crossover group.
One of the members is a very famous count tenor(His name is DQ Lee and played in lots of operas all over the world).
When I heard their very much first debut songs, “Neaolis” and “Demain n’existe pas“ in a competition program(phantom singer 4), I had goosebumps everywhere.
I’m sure you would like them and I’d love to hear your opinion about their singing!
