I'm gonna just say this. Slaughtering tribal, animalistic beings who know nothing but brutality and hate towards anyone not of their race, who's children will likely grow up to be the same brutal beings and eventually be the cause of innocent's deaths, is FAR different and more forgivable than murdering Jedi Younglings, small children being trained to help others, save lives and defend the republic.

I don’t understand this fandom, she didn’t fall in love with him romantically when he was 9. She viewed him as her son, you can tell when they leave tattooine and arrive at the Jedi Order she says, “Come on ani!” as she walks away. A girlfriend or wife wouldn’t say that, only a father or a mother figure would. It’s not only when she sees him in the second film and sees his raw emotion when she falls in love with him romantically. George only hinted at a possible strong connection between the two in episode 1, not a romantic relationship.

This puts a different light on Hayden Christensen himself and his casting. Natalie Portman was present during all castings for the role of Anakin and she basically chose Hayden.
We all noticed that Hayden is a handsome young man, playing a passionate character. History did him a service and revalued his performance, but on a basic level, it was important for the story that almost every girl could understand Padmè’s reasoning.

Have you looked at Anakin?! Of course she went for him. He was strong, kind, beautiful and unashamed about loving her. Here is the most potentially powerful being in the galaxy, one who has dedicated himself to helping others willing to put you before everything else. Telling her his love for her is etched into the very fiber of his soul. Someone who understood service as well as she did begging her to let him love her.
She didn't fall in love with a 9 year old. She fell in love with a man who she thought was destined to be perfect.
But also remember she was just a kid herself when she went into office, and maybe not unique to Naboo but certainly unique to the rest of the galaxy where you see lots of old people representing their planet. I think that's a big reason they developed a bond, they had a shared experience and there weren't a lot of people in general she could relate to.
This honestly just made me more depressed that Anakin and Padme experienced such a beautiful relationship only for the tragedy of Darth Vader to happen.

So if she was only 14 when they met why is this even a question? 5 years is a perfectly acceptable age gap that is not in any way scandalous. And her falling for him is a natural transition from their friendship, she didn’t fall for him when he was 9 she built a friendship with him and it changed to romantic love once they grew up.

The younglings were good children, they were part of the Jedi order, that’s why padme was so upset about them. I never thought that their attraction was weird at all. Think about it this way: An older girl meets a little boy and they become best friends. The boy has a little kid crush on the girl but she just sees him as a friend. She grows close to him and he becomes an important part in her life.
Years later, the boy has grown into a young man and is reunited with the girl who is now a young woman. They rekindle their friendship, and in their friendship, they realize that they have grown up and discovered intimate feelings for each other. It's like that typical love story where the best friends fall in love with each other but with a twist. I, for one, think that it's perfectly fine.
For the record, I would feel the same way if Padme was younger than Anakin as well.
