  • Welcome back to The Curtain Boutique!
On the bench today: We are making thermal-lined Pinch Pleat Curtains.
What width does your curtain have to be?
    Calculations EXAMPLE
    140cm pole width
you need each curtain to be 70cm wide
Use 1.5 widths of fabric for each curtain
    Finished width of curtain 200cm
Minus 2x returns (8cm each side)
    = 184cm
Minus 70cm (finished width of curtain) = 114
114 divided by 6 (amount of pleats needed for 1.5 widths) = 19cm for each pleat.
    To do the spaces
Divide your curtain width amount into 5
    70cm divided by 5 = 14cm for spaces
    So you have
    2 x returns of 8cm 16cm’s
    5 x spaces of 14cm 70cm’s
    6 x pleats of 19cm. 114cm’s
    Total width of curtain. 200cm’s

Your video is so helpful and very clear. I’ve made lots of curtains over the years but find following written instructions more difficult so always resorted to using curtain tape. Please can I check that I should hand sew the top hem and then press before measuring the pleats?

Hi, Is your lining fleeced lined?

Lovely video. I want to try and make some curtains for a bay window. I dont think pinch pleats will work here. Can I just add a pencil pleat header tape at the final stage?

My query is when should we use hand stitching all the way and when should we follow the machine sewn method, where for example the side edges of the lining are machine sewn to the face fabric by shortening the lining material by 3 inches less than face fabric ?

What kind of hooks did you use and where did you put them?
