- Murphy Models highly anticipated 121 class locomotive began its phased release in September with the latest batches arriving late November. I recently received my model along with a sound decoder so thought I’d take a closer look at what they’ve achieved.

lol the sound is spot on..great craftmansship
Loving the new introduction 👍
Thank you. I love it too. Paul
Great Product Paul and another great video thank you
Thank you John. Paul
Boys and their toys eh! That sound chip is some job. 👍
Almost as good as the roar of a Westfield down the Larne Road. 😆 Paul
I never liked this loco but the model is beautifully detailed and I think you made the best choice in choosing the black and tan livery. I know that suits the time period of your layout but that aside, they looked best in this livery.
I couldn’t agree with you more regarding the colour choice Alan. Paul
Happy new year Paul all the best 🚂🚂🚂🚂
Happy new year to you too Adam. Paul
very nice keep the the good work!
Thank y out. Glad you enjoyed it. Paul
Good video keep posting videos up happy new year
Thank you. Paul
Sounds super
It sure does Nigel. Paul
A new video from Paul at Galgorm Hall. The universe suddenly feels a bit more right again. Grand video of a striking loco, but the cars you ran with it were really sharp, too. And then a running session to see some of that fantastic layout. Glad to see you back! A belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Stay safe and cheers!
A happy new year to you too Anthony, let’s hope it’s a much much better one. 🤞🏻 Paul
I'm not usually interested in diesels, being a 'steam' enthusiast, but this model has really caught my interest. It really has a 'bullied' steam loco look about it which is great! As always, another great vid sir, thank you !
Thank you so much Terry, much appreciated. Paul
Paul, thank you for an excellent review of a really great model; the sound came through very well! It is interesting to see the CIE models and striking liveries on your layout. Wishing you all the very best in the New Year. Cheers, Alan, British Columbia.
Thank you Alan, glad you enjoyed it. Paul
Happy New Year to you and yours Paul. A cracking model and very like a lot of American switchers. I'm always filled with trepidation when anyone is opening up one of these highly detailed locos that something is going to go wrong - perhaps it's my fists of ham! ;-)
Turns out I didn’t need to lift the whole body of either Davie. 😆 Happy new year to you too. Paul
Beautiful looking and sounding model excellent choice great video thankyou
I’m really happy with it Mark. Thanks for watching. Paul
Stunning loco Paul !! Awesome sound too. Cheers Onno.
Isn’t it just Onno. Paul
That was amazing to see that model tran running on your layout there it looks great there 👍👍
Thanks Mick, glad you enjoyed it. Paul
Stunning model(s) Paul, so much detail. It makes me wonder what the model producers will come up with next. All the best in 21 to you and your family.
Regards, David.
No doubt they have something special up their sleeves, here’s hoping anyway. Paul
Excellent review Paul... Lovely loco... Murphy's models do a great job, we have the Enterprise..
Happy New Year
It is a stunner Julian. Happy new year. Paul
Good to see, send them south i'll get my pint brushes onto them lol, cheers Paul at Sandling Junction
They could do with a bit of weathering down to make them blend in more. 🤔 Paul
Great video, fantastic channel. Thank you for posting!
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it. Paul
Brilliant video, but the art work at the start of the videos is exceptional!
Thanks Ollie. All credit goes to Charlie for the artwork and Patrick for the music. Paul
Hi Paul, problem I have with modern Irish outline is that it doesn't look modern outline, you get what I mean? Could be thinking its the 60s with the look of the engines. Mind you English outline full of class 37s and you'll find it hard to say a class 66 is stylish :) but I love them. However you can't take away the quality of Murphy models, you forgot to mention the better job they have done on the rotating axels that work :) and yes you can get to the decoder by removing the exhaust panel on top of the loco. Still not an easy job mind you as theres not a lot of room.
All the best Happy New Year
Peter
Hi Peter, I know where you’re coming from. Considering these locos first entered service in 1962 and had a 40+ year service its. It surprising that they maybe don’t have a modern look about them. I’ve always thought 37’s looked stylish and certainly don’t look their age, perhaps it more the surroundings of old running shots on these locos that really make them look dated.
You know what, I hadn’t even noticed the rotating axles until you mentioned it. The loco that keeps on giving. 😆
Paul
Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your family, great looking loco eye catching Irish Rail colour scheme
Reds Mike
Thank you Mike. Paul
You didn’t need to take the body off,you can fit the decoder by removing the exhaust panel on top of the locomotive.
Oh!! I didn’t know that. 😆 Thanks for the heads up though. Paul
@@GalgormHall Happy New Year Paul from Des in Downpatrick.
Happy new year to you too Des. Paul
I was wondering why the body was taken off , it's handy the roof will do. Remember that sound so well.
Do remember them as a kid in the 70s.i thought the top panel came off to fit decoder.
Apparently so, a couple of others have mentioned it to me. I’m a bit of an idiot. 😆 Paul
Beautiful model Paul and that colour scheme right up my street , hmm food for thought . Happy new year to you. Regards Fred
Haha Fred, do it. 😆 happy new year my friend. Paul
@@GalgormHall quick question Paul do you think it’s worth getting as I only run dc and won’t likely be changing to digital. Regards Fred
@@FredWilbury I didn’t run it in DC mode but I have a couple of friends who do. I haven’t heard a complaint from either of them in terms of its performance. All I would say is if you are considering one don’t think too long on it, some of the liveries are fast selling out, it’s why I grabbed the second ‘black and tan’ livery while I could. Hope that helps out. Paul
@@GalgormHall Many thanks Paul
Nice video Paul i dont know much about Ireish models that is a great looking locomotive i may consider getting one in the future. Happy new year. Cheers and all the best.
Nicholas.
Thanks Nicholas, it may look a little out of place on your layout but what does that matter. 😆 Paul
Wow Paul you have gathered some collection of CIE stock ☘ you are putting me to shame 😉 Pity Murphy doesn't do N Gauge 😩 The livery you chose and those Cravens really are a stunning 😍 combination and really look the part running on your layout 😎 Hopefully you will get an A Class during 2021 as that really brings back memories of my childhood 🤞 Very best wishes for a happy and successful year from County Wicklow ☘ Looking forward to the return of Wee Wet Finger 😉🤣🤣🤣
Hi Paul, a happy new year to you too. The A class is on pre order so it’s just a waiting game. 😬 as to that stock, I can’t quite believe I picked so much up last year. 😆 😅 Paul
Nice looking loco. Just found your channel, nice too see a local with a great channel, alot of catching up to do. What sort of weight is that loco Paul. I'm from south west CO Antrim.
Hi Aodhan, welcome to the channel, I hope you find something of interest. Not sure on the weight of the loco but I’ll check it out and get back to you. South West Co. Antrim? Where does that put you, Crumlin, Lisburn direction? Paul
@@GalgormHall Paul far side of Crumlin from you.
@@aodhanmc3413 not too far away then. Paul

Hi Clive, thank you and yea I did. Fingers crossed for your class 87. Paul
Hello,
I’m starting a new layout of the new Derry~Londonderry station (north-west transport hub), and I was wondering if you have any advice on building the station itself, and the platform canopy’s & signage. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks 😁
Hi, sounds like an exciting project, it’s quite a building to model. It’s hard to know where to start with advice. If you wish to contact me via Facebook or my email, both of which are notes in the description of the video, I can maybe try and discuss it further with you. Paul
@@GalgormHall hi Paul, yes I’ll contact you later via email. I’ve recently acquired a c3K model so it should be easier to measure out platform lengths using it lol. I’m currently trying to acquire track plans and station building plans, but due to the new lockdown, it’s becoming harder to get hold of them lol.
Thanks,
Luke
That's a amazing model. Can it run on the A/C?
It can be run on DC or DCC, you just lose some of the lighting functions with the analogue running. Paul
@@GalgormHall I see I must convert over to DCC lol
It may be worth it to some to take down this video before damage is done to loco's taking them apart to insert chip when there is no need to. MM's went to a lot of effort to simplify the process and install removable panels on roof.
Thanks Eamonn, amazing what you learn after the fact. A visit to the website would certainly have ascertained this for me. The removal of the body is still a necessity for fitting a driver to the cab if so desired I believe though. Paul
Great review Paul! Just got mine in the mail yesterday (Canada). Will soon be converting the wheels to 21mm (5' 3") as I've done with my 141/181 and 071 models. Makes an enormous visual difference on an Irish layout if you're willing to build your own track....czcams.com/video/vkA6JFwu6XM/video.html
Thanks John, that conversion of track really does make a huge difference. Not sure if I’d be prepared to go right back to track laying at this stage now to rectify my gauge error. 😆 Enjoy playing with your new 121. Paul
@@GalgormHall Thanks Paul, will do!
