    Thanks for sharing!! I love how Sarah Mackenzie talks about how curriculum isn’t something buy, it something we teach. It’s just a tool. You are so right that there isn’t that one perfect curriculum. I’ve started to learn, slowly, to use curriculum for what I want and let go the of pieces that don’t work. It needs to be fluid!

      Yes!! I am so often tempted that I need to find that perfect curriculum...then I spend a lot of time and money, haha. But it's not there. You are right. I actually needed that reminder this morning - about what Sarah Mackenzie said. Thank you!!!

    We switched from TGATB Science to Masterbooks for my 5th Grader and my son is learning so much. He chose God’s Design Physical Science and it is challenging for him, but he loves that he is teaching Mom stuff, and I have time to work with my K/1 little. The hands on component uses stuff we have already and doesn’t require extra work on my part. God’s Design says 3rd through 8th Grade so you could teach family style depending on the ages of your kiddos.

      @LoveThemWell  Před 3 lety +2

      Oh awesome!! I love anything "family style"! God's Design...I have not heard of this and I will absolutely check it out! Thank you! Writing this down now:)

  • @thesparrowlilyschoolhouse

    The 3rd edition for levels 1-4 and soon to be 5 of TGTB were revised and condensed to shorter, more effective lessons. We don’t use TGTB ELA as our core curriculum, but I did purchase it to try it with my son and daughter. And I do find the lessons to be short. I think it’s great curriculum.
    Hope that was clear!
    Great video!

      Oh this is so good to hear! I am highly considering this for next year. Master Books has been great, but it might be more work for me than just finding a curriculum that works better...like maybe TGTB! Thank you for this!

    Thank you! This was so helpful. You really gave some info that I haven't heard from other reviews.

    Great information! We use MB for science and history and really enjoy them for the same reason that you like the math and language arts... they give the opportunity to supplement the way that we like.

    • @LoveThemWell
      @LoveThemWell  Před 3 lety

      Yes! Thank you for watching:) I really want to check out the science and history...glad to know they similar in that you have freedom to supplement:)

    We used level 1 and are on level 2. I appreciate the math not being so much drill and adding when needed. We use school zones Big Math 1-2 and of course can't beat the Dollar Tree workbooks. 😊 It ends up being just right.

    • @LoveThemWell
      @LoveThemWell  Před 3 lety

      Yes! I remember in grade school having over 30 problems each night for homework. Way too much. But those extra little workbooks tend to be right. I'll have to check out those school zone books. Sometimes they're at Aldi! Thank you!!

  • @ThisReyesSchoolHouse
    @ThisReyesSchoolHouse Před 3 lety +2

    I love (right now) that the curriculum is not so dense so it gives me freedom to add as much as I want if needed...or we can just move on.
    It’s more of a guide for us.

    • @LoveThemWell
      @LoveThemWell  Před 3 lety

      Yes! It gives me an order of what to teach throughout the year. And I think that has worked for the ages of my kids. As they get older, I'm not sure...always evaluating:)

    We used MB for the first time, for Language Arts, I loved the independence it gave my oldest two. This coming year we are going to try the math they offer. I do love the MB app where you connect with other MB parents.
    I wanted to add we are in the principles of math age for my oldest, so I'm hoping it has more review.

    I feel like we have very similar teaching styles! I am planning on trying out the new TGTB math for my upcoming kindergarten boy and pulling from Masterbooks Level 1 as I feel it’s necessary as a supplement. And throw in any other (inexpensive) resource along the way!

      How have I not seen this comment till now? I am so sorry! TGTB Math has it going on! I am hearing such wonderful things. Is that what you decided to go with?

    Thanks so much for this review. We have used tgatb level 2 math and my son and I couldn’t deal with how spiral it was. We dont mind spiral but tgatb math jumps from topic to topic so you barely learn a new concept and poof next lesson is something completely new. Just a heads up on that. I like that masterbooks stays on same topic for at least a few days. I like the idea of using it as spine with supplements. Might have to try that. Thanks again

    Master Books does have a teacher guide for their math. It's sold separately and I believe it is for all the levels of Math.

    Thanks so much for making this video. You and I sound so much alike, by the way--how you think and how you desire to teach. I also use Master Books Language Arts & Master Books Math for my son, 2nd grader. And then for the rest of the school, I also do unit study (for my son and my preschoolers....I love connecting everything together with my children!). Anyways, sometimes I feel like shopping for other programs for my son. I often feel MB is not enough, but then I get overwhelmed with all of the other curriculums. I use a lot of Rod & Staff to supplement. They are cheap and they have a lots of practice sheets for everything. I love combining both of those curriculums together. But still, I wonder if there is a curriculum that's a great "middle," as you described. Maybe Good and the Beautiful would be something to look into. Anyways, thanks so much for your videos! And glad to hear this one today!

      Hello! Thank you for your comment! I feel the exact same way! I will check out Rod and Staff. I haven't heard of that! And yes, I am still hearing really good things about the new "Simply Math" from The Good and the Beautiful. Let me know if you check it out and like it:)
