It definitely is! I've always had a place in my heart for Bastrop. We even owned property there at one point and almost moved that way instead of west.
Thanks for the comment!

I don't know why realtors call Bastrop a "suburb." It's a separate city not even in the same county as Austin. Traffic along SH71 between Bastrop and Austin is quite congested. Wasn't like that 5 years ago.
Hi James, not sure it's just a Realtor thing, but I call it a suburb (like I do Kyle, Buda, Drip, Manor, Elgin, etc) mainly because of the proximity to the downtown area. And, it's easily understood by most clients. It's also included in data as a part of the Austin MSA. But it is a little interesting that I'd call Bastrop a suburb but not Smithville. Maybe in my mind, because it's the first town out from Austin?
As for the traffic, yep, as Bastrop has grown, the traffic has gotten much worse. At least they are trying to expand the roads and bypass the traffic lights. Infrastructure expansion is never fast enough, but I guess at least they are trying?🍻

It's called a suburb because it is not urban or rural. A lot of it is population density.
We're losing our beloved Bastrop. Makes me sick.
I understand that feeling. I've been visiting Bastrop since I was a kid and I will say, the influx of attention and money has made a really made a nice difference in Downtown and the parks. I, personally, could do without the big box stores and I wish the old golf course was still there, but I really enjoy being downtown more than in the past.
I hope you're able to help direct some of the changes to keep it closer to the way you love it. 🍻
