  • Found this vacuum sealer on sale at Walmart for $50. Been wanting one for a long time to store ammo. It works really well.

I seal the entire box , then store in ammo cans. Just this past weekend shot ammo from 2000 . Ammo like brand new no fails what so ever

It also prevents plastic bag from sticking to the bullets. Plastic bits on bullets jams the weapons.

I've been vacuum sealing ammo for a while. I'll seal 250 and 500 rd boxes of 22lr. I seal 9 stripper clips of .223 in a pack. I keep a retractable snap off utility knife in each can along with a spoon for the stripper clipped ammo. It works great, keeps if from moving around, no tarnish, no dust and if you open a bag cautiously you can take out some rounds to shoot and reseal the bag. I thought about vacuum sealing loaded mags but I'm afraid the mags might distort under a vacuum.

I do this too. Here are some tip's from my 5 years or so of doing this:
    1. Make sure get a few small Desiccant packets to put in the vacuumed sealed area to keep the ammo dry.
    2. Make sure to cut the label off the ammo box with the lot number just in case something is recalled you know what is what. Also date the packs with a marker/put a slip of paper in with a date in the pack of when you sealed it.
    3. The way your doing it is fine but I find it best to flip every other round so your line of ammo is **more** straight and/or without gaps. Another option is to go to bass pro/Cabela's and get some of those smaller 50-100 round box's for 2-3 bucks. Makes it easy to keep the seal intact on the vacuum bag then loose ammo. Don't waste your time with magazines as I have never gotten a good seal/they pop if you do over time because of the sharp thing metal area's.
    4. I find it best to do smaller dual row packs. Like two rows of 5 - 10 rounds then seal the pack. Also bonus points if your sealed pack's are for exactly a full mag.
    5. Make sure to check your vacuum sealed ammo every month just in case the vacuum bag(s) have lost the seal.
    6. Double and sometimes triple seal the ends of vacuum bag's. It has saved me having to redo a whole bag quite a few times.

Some really great suggestions. I bought smaller 4”x6” bags for the ammo I’m more likely to use. I’m going to repack my 300 AAC rounds in those. I was thinking about vacuum sealing the magazines. Thanks!

These larger bags did not work well and lost their vacuum

I think that is a very good idea. Only thing I might do differently is small 5-10 round batch on ammo I hardly use. That way when you want to shoot it just grab small bag instead of giant one and having to reseal it.

You’re absolutely right. Have to see if I can find some smaller bags.

Vacuum sealing results in plastic bag sticking to the bullets when stored for long periods of time. Plastic bits jams the weapons when firing. To solve this, wrap the bullets with paper!

What if before the Vacuum sealing you put some Oil inside the bag ? It is a good idea?
Ammo with some oil plus vacum sealing?

I'd say no. If the oil made it's way into the primer pocket it could ruin the primer and not fire. you could maybe wipe down every cartridge with a very lightly oiled rag then seal them but I don't think you would have to worry about corrosion inside the sealed bag anyway, especially if you did the sealing inside a low humidity room to begin with.

Vacuum will force the oil go inside your ammunition and ruin it…

Cheaper to just put them in ammo cans

True, but the problem is It would be inconvenient to toss an ammo can with 10-rounds in it into my hunting pack.
