I'd only use mineral oil on the outside not lubricating oil that says also "cleans", that would mean it contains some sort of solvent and that could cause a spotty finish, pitting or more rust as it traps oxygen in the foodsaver I am sure it works well in an open environment. I've never tried ballistol this is just knowing how rust forms, it sounds like overkill. Just my opinion unless otherwise proven of course.

yes you can . oil the gun well . Slide into silicone sock and vacum seal .
You do it right and no rust in over 4 years .
Why not just use VCI bags? You can open and close it back up whenever you want
Buring it would be one of the ideal situations. But I would put a desiccant pack in that vacuum seal.
