Fun fact: when football first started, coaching from the sideline was strictly prohibited and substitutes could not communicate with the rest of the team for one full play. Players removed for subs were out for the game or half, depending on the rules of that year, so running plays in from the sideline couldn't happen either. The idea was that the game should be a contest of players, not coaches.
Now baseball has followed football down the path of calling every move from the sidelines.

I recall 4-5 years ago, when Tom Allen was considered the best thing since sliced bread. As we soon found out, IU paid him huge money based upon 1 freak season when he himself lucked into a bunch of IU talent and won several games. It was a 1-year thing however, and had very little (if anything) to do with Tom Allen's coaching. Basically he was an average coach with a below average team which doesn't make for too much success. Hopefully Cignetti does a better job.

Cignetti is a MUCH better coach. Allen’s weird two years almost had me question my leadership beliefs!

One thing I have noticed is the talent difference between the "haves and the have nots" in the WNBA seems much wider than other professional sports. Unfortunately, the Fever are one of the have nots. I don't think it's a question of they will figure it out or hire Eric Spoelstra as their coach.

Not a good basketball team. That is beyond question. Hope it evolves to something a little better during the break.

Don't expect to win any titles immediately now that your conference has been flooded with the biggest money Pac-12 teams. Things have gotten distinctly harder for IU - and they weren't close last year.

  • @bricefleckenstein9666

IU a year ago had the Indiana High School ALL TIME RUSHING LEADER on their squad.
They didn't even offer him a scholarship, and after 2 years as a walk-on and getting a little use on special teams he decided to go to Ball State instead.
    Where is any accountability?

Yes with baseball the catcher needs to observe the batter and call off what they notice from up close with a chemistry. Habits and patterns in particular that they should be processing between pitches and communicating mutually. It's supposed to be a cohesion not totally different from a quarterback and receiver. Sometimes the pitcher leads and sometimes the catcher guides from the plate. Taking that away and using electronics contributes to diluting the capacity of both the players and the game of baseball at any level of competition.

    • @KentSterling
