    @fretless05 Před 3 lety +1

    I need some advice! I am coming from a whisky/bourbon/Rye drinking background, so was drawn to the anejo and extra anejo expressions: since, I've seen a number of videos saying that the flavors from the woods can mask the "real" tequila taste. Wanting to explore tequila, I did try several blanco tequilas in a blind test. I tried El Tesoro, El Padrino, and Cazul 100 because they were available in 1/2-sized bottles and were all award winning highly recommended tequilas (sadly, Fortaleza was on my list, but the stores near me don't carry the half-size and the cost was adding up). I preferred the El Tesoro, followed by the Cazul, and then the El Padrino. They were all decent sippers, but being used to aged spirits, they all seemed thin and lacking complexity. So, here's the question: Is this sense of lack of complexity and flavor just a matter of preference, of my choices in samples, or a lack of training of my pallet to pick up the flavor tones in blanco tequila? I enjoy your videos and have learned a lot, and hope you can steer me down the right path; I want to continue learn and am trying not to let me past experiences color my opinions too much.

    • @TheTequilaHombre
      @TheTequilaHombre  Před 3 lety +1

      El Tesoro is the only one from the ones you tried that I would recommend, You can find more complex blancos as well. With blancos the tastes are not as bold as whiskeys are with the amount of time they spend in wood. You you need to get your palate used to them to detect more. For more bold flavors I would recommend starting with higher proof blancos. Try the Fortaleza still strength, G4 108 proof, Calle 23 Criollo, Gran Dovejo High proof, DOn Fulano fuerte, or Cascahuin Plata. and lastly, don't take suggestions from people who work at Total wine.. have fun and I can't wait to hear what you think when you try these. (I came from whiskey too)

      @@TheTequilaHombre LOL Thanks for clearing it up for me. I knew either my pallet was just used to wood, or that blancos were lighter on flavor and complexity; in this case, might have been a bit of both. Sadly, most of those were not available at the store at all, or not in smaller bottles since I was already buying several. I'll look online, and let the exploration continue!

    I just bought my first bottle of G4 because of your recommendation. I'll let you know how I like it. I was wondering if you've ever heard of a brand called Esperanto. The blanco and reposado are two of my favorites. I would very much love your feedback on this brand.

      Yes. I have heard of Esperanto and I have a bottle and can't drink it. It's diffused and is rough with a bad after taste. So I can't drink it.. But the bottles are beautiful.

      Siete Leguas is only half traditionally made as its a blend from two factories. (Almost 3 now) One uses a rollermill. So it doesn't qualify.

      What do think of Tequila Casa de Los Gonzalez? they use brick ovens but a roller mill instead of a tahona.
      I don't know if I told you before but I have 30 hectares right behind Latino Especial (not too far from Embajador). I want to cultivate agave and make my own but the right way. no pulling plants in year 4, no additives, no diffusers/autoclaves, none of that nonsense.

I know and are good friends with His his Grandson. Don't get me wrong on the Siete Legaus. I love the brand but it didn't make this list because it didn't fit that criteria I was using for that video. That sounds cool that you are looking to start an agave farm and make your own tequila.
