Photographer's Starter Guide to MidJourney AI - Why you have to know this!

- I am sharing very basic and simple steps on how to use Midjourney AI - made especially for still life/product photographers.
The images that I was creating with MidJourney are unusual - unlike most of art-like images, I was creating either very photorealistic still life images or images that can be used as digital backgrounds for your still life or product photography.
My next step would be generating scenes that I can put a real photographed subject into. Once mastered, tutorial will follow:-)
Steps to follow for you:
1. Install and register on discord: discord.com/
2. Get to Midjourney: www.midjourney.com/
3. Read the basic guide (if needed:-) midjourney.gitbook.io/docs/us...
4. Words - Modifiers: github.com/willwulfken/MidJou...

If you haven't discovered it, Midjourney understands photography terms. You can specify lens size (8mm, 35mm, etc), focal length, f-stops,and so on. Can specify specific types of cameras (like Polaroid).
Yes, I know. It will be in the next tutorial - I'd like to keep this simple and relatively short. Thank you!
@@photigy any signs of next tutorial?
Could you do the next video please? Could you do one on how to create product photography using a photo you already have (one with product packaging and wording). It has been far from obvious so far for me. Thank you!
Just found your channel ! This has been the best vid I’ve seen in weeks on this ! Please please please ! More vids as promised 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Welcome aboard!
Loving it! Still trying to figure out how to best blend the background and 3d details into the photos, how to properly make them look good together and not fake-y! But definitely amazing tool! Looking forward to the next videos! thanks
I’ve been loving it! As a photographer this is a great tool to make anything you can imagine
Absolutely!
Consider my mind blown! This is amazing. 😄I do have a request, please share a tutorial on Photographer's starter guide for BlueWillow. This is the new tool I am currently using and I would really appreciate your insight 👩🎤
Thank you for the nice tutorial. I wonder if there is something like this that allows me to just clean/improve/stylize my own product images?
Hey! First of all, thank you for the informative video, it helped me a lot. I want to create product photos for companies but I still got one question: How can I add the name of the product afterwards on the create image? Since I am not so talented in Photoshop, it's not that easy...
Merry Christmas!!
can I upload my own jewelry image, and ask the ai to shoot image with different background?
I’d luv to see a new video on the latest tips these days
This is so cool ! Can I use BlueWillow in this process instead of Midjourney? Please share your insights for us designers who are currently using this new tool. You would be a lifesaver!
Thank you for video. Specially for me was good advices and just for me))) I understand your pronunciation (probably same accent)
I start working with midjorney to make improvment or add some interesting moments to my own pictures...
You're welcome! We're glad to hear that the video was helpful for you and that you found the advice relevant to your own work. Working with Midjorney to make improvements and add interesting moments to your own pictures sounds like a fantastic idea. Keep up the good work and continue to seek out resources and inspiration to help you improve your craft.
Great content! Looking forward to the next video - is it coming soon?
Yes, soon
Hi Alex. Great video, as usually. The shared server that you talked are the discord account, or the MidJourney account?
Midjourney image generating platform is fully based on Discord, so account in needed in Discord to use its feature.
Hello Alex, I love your work, more than anything cleaning the objects. I would like to know how you do it, is it in editing?
Hi there! Yes, Alex used MidJourney here. You can join our Facebook group, where Alex posted details regarding this. facebook.com/groups/photigypremium/.
Hi videos are great
I can't understand english very well
I want to buy training, but while watching the videos there, can we auto-translate like the subtitles on youtube?
Is the second video out yet?
This isn’t going to replace product photography, nor is it necessary for great product photos. The most it can do is make a background for the product photo, and even that is unnecessary.
Great courses on website if you do product photography as a hobby or business. Thanks
Cool, thanks!
These are really cool images and I love the art generators but this isn't photography and none of these products exist, so how can it be applied to product photography?
Was there ever a next video?
If you ask midjourney to draw a famous person, it creates picture of a person that looks somewhat like that famous person, but not quite.
almost like actors portraying that famous person in a biopic movie or something. I'm not sure if this was done due to copy right issues, or they are intentionally making the picture so that it doesn't look like the real person, or it's the limitation of the AI.
I suspect it is intentional, not limitation of the technology.
I have the same problem, what do I do?
@@Unknown-wb1bf I'm just describing my observation. I don't have a solution for it.
@@davidjacobs8558 I was hoping you did because 2 weeks passed.
Midjourney images are like someone with great art skill drawing things he doesn't know from a detailed description provided.
but also intentinally making errors in specific information.
for example, if you ask midjourney to make image of Coca Cola Can, it creates can that looks pretty close to a regualr Coke can,
but mis-spells Coca Cola. and the can is a bit wider-shorter than a real can.
👍🙂
Are you able to use my own images instead of website predetermined library
Are you using a free account or not? I tried to do and got the message "You are not allowed to DM with slash commands
Free trial users are not allowed to DM the Midjourney Bot..."
I was using a free account first, it was OK to send DM. When I was recording this video, I had a paid account, and it looks like they not allowing DM anymore - for free accounts.
@@photigy I think so. Thanks
Soooo….. is there any real point in continuing to build skills? Are we now redundant? I’m sure this conversation is being had far and wide. As someone who is relatively new to the industry, with the full intention of working as a photographer until retirement, this is confronting.
It's a good question. I think photographers need to adapt to new technologies, such as CGI, video, and AI-generated imagery. With all these skills, we'll be able to blend technologies together to achieve results that none of these skills won't let us to do when used alone. For example, I'd like to use AI-generated backgrounds in my photography for sure.
CGI & video I understand. AI replaces the actual act of creation. There is no real skill in using AI, removing the need for professional services.
I’m all for technology that aids creativity - not replaces it.
@@fj8214 there's no real skill in photography compared to portrait/landscape painting or graphic design, etc...
We have to adapt with the times, and explore the creative possibilities of the new medium
@@fj8214 You are not being paid for the sole creation, market is paying you for providing solutions to a particular problem/need. As longs as whatever you come up with satisfies a need or solves a problem you are a valuable creator in the market. Doesn't really matter what you use, it's how you can use those tools to leverage your position and create value for clients. And building new skills is always a necessity, because markets change all the time and being only proficient in photography only puts you at risk. If you enjoy creating images with a camera, I'm sure you would by creating videos, CGI, or even using AI enhancements for your ideas in order to provide solutions.
Is this possible in MJ to create real product that exist with real branding ?
Creating images in 5 to 7 minutes, I think is misleading. I am guessing it took much, much longer to experiment with the settings to get something even close?
Do you have commercial rights to the generated AI or just the query with a paid account? If you plan to use the generated art, do you disclose that it was created using an AI program? I know people do not mention if their photo was enhanced using photography software like Photoshop or Luminar so I wonder if it works the same way and if it even matters. Thinking about it brings up a lot of questions. As far as I'm concerned, people using this software and other AI art and writing software are no longer fully participating in the creative process, the only creativity is in creating the query. The real creatives are the software developers. It's probably not something I will use but I am interested to see where it leads.
This is a good question, Janet. The license you have by default from MidJourney is not prohibiting you from using the generated image commercially; however - it does not prevent others from using it well.
What does it mean for me as a creator? I won't be using AI-generated images "as-is" to sell to my clients - since I can't protect them by my own copyright.
What I can do is to use images as a part of my creative process, modifying it in anyway I want. For example, I can use it as a digital background to blend in with my photography. The end result can be used commercially, and I'll hold the copyright.
Another possible use is to create fast visualizations for projects I want to work on instead of making sketches. The speed and variety of images it can generate will help me to see what I'd like to create - either with my camera and photoshop, or CGI or all together.
I don't understand, what am I supposed to do with a resulting image? I can't give it to any customer, because it's not their product. I can't sell it on stocks. Everyone is saying HOW to generate images, but no-one is saying WHY))
You can sell AI generated images on Adobe Stock
@@SebboThePotato Yes, sure, but besides that. And besides printing them as backdrops
@@DinaBelenko personally I think it's a lot of fun. But you could also try selling prints on t-shirts mugs etc. I guess you need to ask yourself "what are people using images for now?" And then AI can now intercept that. But I dunno maybe I'll just ask chatGPT what to do with AI images 😂
@@SebboThePotato I can sell my own art as merch, so that doesn't really count))
Yes, it's fun, but it's useful mostly for companies who want cheap images, not for artists🤔
@@SebboThePotato I actually asked GPT! I love it)) And GPT is usually very helpful. But sadly not with that question 😂
It is bit naive to say unique and yours.
Go back to reality (the only way to find yourself) and stop dreaming...
They more AI you apply they less interesting and is your work, its my personal point of view.
your tutorial is so so confusing. Why don't u use say your personal photo and add a background mountain. Your bottle image for a start looks already computer generated thats where the confusion start. Treat us like a school boy
I have lost my greatest idol, I never thought that the best product photographer in the world would consider the use of those despicable tools, took many of your curses trough the years here and at the photigy community, time to unfollow, ill keep loyal to REAL photography ai generated bs is there for lazy people and i love what i do so time is never an issue
Please explain precisely. Your pictures are very impressive but your way of technical teaching doesnt give a clear knowledge at all. Most of your videos are of only based on talking that doesnt teach anything at all.
