It is in some sense comforting to hear experienced pros express the same worries I do when trying to get just the right expression or feel. And that hey, you might not always get that! Only the person who draws it really knows for sure what their intentions were, regardless of quality. That said, whoever it was who animated Kida in Atlantis did a wonderful job and should definitely be proud! But I empathize totally with looking back at finished work and not feeling that sense of pride, too. For people who draw it definitely feels like a curse sometimes.

I try to use good acting in my comics as well. I keep in mind that some characters use hands a lot when communicating, some are stiff and only use the eyes, it's very fun to imagine the conversations they have in your head along with the motions and body language they use and translate that to a few shots on paper. Watching films with real people is very helpful

This is true for many artists as well as myself. My work NEVER comes out the way I see it in my head, it's never as good and it can be really frustrating. It takes a good amount of skill to be able to translate images from your head onto the physical world.
