That’s called dissociation in modern times. Happens commonly with traumatic events where the brain is pretty much protecting you from really understanding the traumatic shit you went through by either making it as tho you feel your outside your body and that is happening to someone else, completely shutting down, in some complex cases causing dissociative identity disorder formerly known as split personality disorder, amnesia, etc. it can cause that thousand yard stare because in that soldiers head he’s probably not even there at the moment. I personally have ptsd and dissociation from childhood trama but mine presents odd since I don’t stare like that but I go cross eyed and my brain checks out. People with dissociative issues may also suffer them for the rest of their life after trama and not just acutely right after wether because of flash backs or other reasons.

Complexe ptsd can do this too.
It is when you’re exposed to small, not always obvious abuse, for an a decade plus, like a childhood.
It can be innocuous things that for people having healthy exposures as a baseline wont take to heart, maybe set a boundary but they know what’s up. If you don’t it adds up, whatever abuse or big long lasting stress factor it is.
Otherwise adhd sufferers dissociate more than the norm.
And also if you lack sleep your brain takes microrests.

Shell shock is when your nervous system literally snaps from the relentless explosions of sustained heavy artillery barrage and you lose control of your own body movements. It is caused by the subconscious trying to take control of something in a situation where the conscious mind has no control over anything. It takes therapy to recover from actual shell shock to even regain control over your own nervous system and body movements. It is actually heartbreaking to see what reall shell shock can cause a person's own mind to do to their own bodies. Or don't look into it at all, after all, ignorance is bliss. @Abe Adams Im white north european. My grandgrandparents were in war against russia to protect our country. They came home and beat their wifes and kids, drank a lot and lived poorly as everybody else.
My grandparents grew to adults. Grandma was an agressive alcoholic and grandpa was ok but both never showed love to anybody. They found eachother and had my mother and her siblings.
My mother cant talk about her feelings and never cares of us her childrens. She screams at us, threathens us, trows things, has breakdowns and avoids the whole family. Im really emotional person and have a need to talk of my emotions but never got the chance. Now I am the fourth mentally ill depressed woman in my family tree.
Traumatic experiences affect you as a person and that affects how you act and treat others.
If your mother sang to you, you are more likely to sing to your kids.
Is that idea too hard t wrap your head around?
Anyway thats what I meant and many people understood it but you clearly seem to be smarter. Nobody here even mentioned money. I do not want that. I just wrote a comment that shows how I see things. I never saw myself as a victim. I believe that by spreading info on these things may help someone understand why they or somebody else acts in some way. When I was younger I never understood why mom didnt talk to me but when I got older I understood her mother didnt talk to her. I wanna be the one that stops this old trauma from affecting our lifes.

Seen that shit over and over. I fought in the Russian army during the battle against Georgia. In Russia, commanders and soldiers tend to be fairly close. I was a Lieutenant Colonel at the time. Me and my boys had a shitty dinner and went to bed. That day, we fought the Georgians. They were mowed down with ease, but that’s not to say that my boys weren’t hurt. There was a nobody; Private Ivan. I wasn’t close with him. He just enlisted and joined in with our talks. I sat by each bed, but he was unique. In his last moments, he held my hand. He had bad shell shock and his entire left side was blown out by artillery. He told me: “You’re the closest thing to a father that I’ve ever had.”
He died about an hour afterwards, and it still stings today. He may have been a nobody, but that comment was bittersweet. Many more shared that shell shock, and it was just heartbreaking to watch the people I’ve trained die before my own eyes.

This has happened to a couple vets in my family it's so sad to see it happen but I'm glad the older women in my family and cousins and I know how to walk them back so then it's easier for them to snap out.❤

I used to "zone out" (dissociate) a lot as a kid/teen and can do it on command so that stare is relevent to a lot of things but my favorite is the part where you just don't blink for minutes on end lmao

Also known as White Noise. It would be described as basically seeing more of the whites of the eyes then the actual pupil and iris itself. It has also been a symptom talked about since Homer discussed the Iliad and most likely even before then. In our country alone over 1,000 soldiers were sentenced based on the idea of desertion due to Shell Shock in World War 1 and a little over one hundred of them would be sentenced to death and be executed. Same happened in other countries during that period as well.

Most dudes in my family do this it's fairly normal I usually do it while eating because I'm bored the best I can explain is looking and thinking about what you've done and reliving that moment sometimes I can completely void anything around me it's literally like looking into your own brain

I work in EMS and have seen this many times. It's so unnerving to witness. In instances where we respond with police sometimes we'll see someone start doing this, if they're standing really still, staring and figiting their fingers they're mind is racing, it can be a warning sign that you're about to get attacked

I've seen this stare from my grandpa's brother. we had a family event and he would stay in the corner on a couch staring around the room at random family members. I looked up while he was looking at me and it looked like he wasn't looking at me, but through me. as if he saw someone behind and the only way to see them was through me. the whole day I turned around seeing if that someone was actually there. I was paranoid.

Not to be a dick, but the "War Never Solves Anything" argument would be a hard sell to recent examples of European Jews, descendants of slaves, the Chinese of Nanking, etc., etc. - don'tcha think?
War sucks, but it assuredly solves stuff and it's been a part of our species (and many creatures of the planet) since forever, and strangely is part of the leaps that move us forward through time. ✌️🕊️

Wars are agendas put upon countries by the globalist elites to further their wealth, power, depopulate the strength of countries, etc.
War is not needed for the common man. It is the globalist elites who play with the lives of real people, for their own selfish agendas.

It’s because they’re not actually acknowledging the world around them. They’re seeing the trauma on repeat in their minds like it’s right in front of them. I experience this as my childhood was riddled with trauma. The weather is a common culprit for… knocking me out of focus and putting me back in time where I wasn’t safe. I’ll only realize I’ve gone when it’s been a while and something gets my attention.
