Jazz theory teachers: WE CAN MAKE IT FUUUN
Kenni just showed us all of that on sax and then right after it he rips a devastating flute solo
check out the Cory Wong Live in Minneapolis concert video, at one point he shows up with a piccolo and everybody loses their minds
Not taking anything away from the guy, but the two instruments share the same fingering for their valves which makes things somewhat easier.
@@pete3816 May may be similar. But actually playing the two instruments are very different to actually play.
@@zacharysnyder4248 YES! Specifically "CORY WONG // LIVE IN MPLS // 9 FEB 2019" which until "Vulfpeck at Madison Square Gardens" was the greatest live show video of the millennium, still has more musical in-jokes than any other concert video, and wherein at 50 minutes right after "Alright Kev, let's show 'em that we went to music school" during "Frogville", Cory Wong launches the greatest ^*$#! rhythm guitar solo Of All Time with "Airplane Mode" 🎸🤘🔥
@@pete3816 fully agree, side note -- the embouchure for the flute is much harder
I found a new religion. I’m an Holmenite now.
Incredibly talented people. Incredible show. Deserves 10x more views 🔥
À quand le show de variété de pvnova ?
Tu sais que plus au début je croyais qu'elle guitariste de vulpeck était toi? X
Si de loin ya une belle ressemblance quand même
Ah t'es là toi !
Honestly slightly disappointed I didn't get a review of tritone substitutions for secondary dominants.
A show where the presenter holds a Strat and has a big band behind is my type of show! 🙌
Top-tier episode, guest, and song! I feel bad for those who got intimidated by the title, and feel even worse for the kids who just wanted to learn about animals
I just wanted to learn about tritone substitutions for secondary dominants :(
The household 9-year-old thought it was pretty funny. (But also wanted to watch some original Attenborough afterwards.)
@@Slikviq go up a half step from the 1 chord and use that as a Dominant 7th chord functioning as the 5 chord leading back to the one to resolve. For instance In C Major use Dflat7 instead of G7 for the 5 chord
@@kane6529 But how does that establish the tonicization of the chord of resolution? like the V or the vii*?
@@Slikviq because both the dominant 5 chord and the Tritone Sub contain the same interval between the major3rd and the flat7th (A Tritone) the substitution is also a Tritone away that’s why it works as a substitute
How do I support Cory Wong and the Wongnotes beyond a thumbs up and subscribe? I just don't want them to ever go away. . .
Cory has a merch store I think it’s linked in his bio
This is a also in support of the album which you can buy. Cory Also has a Bandcamp page with pretty much all of his previous albums.
@@sustinance9557 Good shout. Just brought a Teee!!! Now to wait for 3 months for it to ship to NZ.......!!
13:01 guy on the top left. This face is the greatest compliment a musician can receive.
But can we talk about the substitutions tho? I know Cory can nerd out on that for an hour and I’m 100% here for it.
12:01 The way Jon just palmed that mute and kept playing
and here I thought only guitarists could palm mute haha
Did you see his stank face during Kenni's flute solo? This guy gets it!
Did anyone else low key actually want to hear Cory’s take on Tritone subs for secondary dominants? …no? Okay, yeah me either.
i got way too excited for a theory lesson lmaoo
Same
Ditto
Yes - I feel totally let down now. My first negative Cory experience...
yup..
Kenny Holman is just everything i aspire to be. What a sound
just practice 8 hours a day for 4 years straight like he did and you might just get there.
Muso’s from around the world: Can’t wait to hear some sick playing.
Cory: So can we hear a seagull sound?!
hahahahahaha
Let's be honest. This is the episode we've all been waiting for!
Yeah, Cory eased in a comment that the Stevie Wonder Medley is on this episode
Yeah Kyle Gass is Amazing
I've never been so pleasantly trolled in my whole life!
11:18 Kenni is out here quoting St Thomas, he really is a tenor player
HAha
Crikey, Kenni is not just an animal, he's a BEAST. Don't think I've ever heard slap tongue before - such a cool texture!
Also, Jon Lampley's 'digging someone's solo' face is a highlight throughout this whole series.
I've enjoyed every single episode, but Kenny making animal noises on sax takes the prize for my favourite. Cory, please don't stop.
this whole series has been a feel good vibe from start to finish
Kenni's chops are insane!!
Kenni is amazing wow. The sax making different animal sounds has got me thinking that maybe all Colin Stetson's music is just him trying to imitate the sound of some elder god monstrosity only he can hear.
Kenni Holmen is from another planet! Wow
I have never heard brass sound like a string, Kenny is an animal!
Sax's can sound like almost anything. Wish I still played it. But look up saxophone orchestras. I've seen some big ones and they sound almost the same as a regular orchestra. At times I could swear I was hearing other woodwinds, brass, and even strings. Sax is really one of the most versatile instruments
@@TomMilleyMusic Wow will do, thanks! I think Moonhooch had the wildest sax I ever heard before this.
..I still haven't,..but those are some neat sounds in their own way.
Actually, sax is not part of the brass instrument family, it is a wood(wind) instrument, despite the material its body is made of.
@@tomaszetek2095 yeah! Um... actually!
my mouth was hanging open when Kenni started playing in the interview
Kenni has the loudest buttons in the game.
Was that a St. Thomas quote on the end of Kenni's interview? He's my new hero.
Yes I heard that too!
I have never heard a sax make sounds like that before.
Not only a great guitarist, composer l, and arranger but a world class SHOWMAN. Love Cory’s sense of humor and also his obvious deep respect for all of his band mates. A class act!
Get you someone who looks at you the way Corey Wong looks at everything.
Fun fact : the saxophone was invented in Belgium. The guy who invented it used to be on the 200 belgian franc banknote before the euro.
Man, those horns... I'm in love. ❤️
Man, the lion is SIIICCCKKK!! Kenny definitely has perfect pitch! 😄
really lovin all the episodes, hope you will make more like this in the future as well.
Oh My Goodness...This was my fav episode thus far. Thanks to everyone involved...
Check the back row "stank face" during Kenni's flute solo...worth the sub right there.
I love how Cory randomly plays bass on some tracks. It's like he's should be in a band with a group of guys who play different instruments each song 😉😉😉
Like Vulpeck?
@@sdelasnerie1 something like that lol
This is awesome, loved it all!
the cinematography on this is insane. great job cory and crew!
That's exactly the topic I've been waiting for years to see a YT video about - and finding it just on this channel is a dream come true!
Awesome!
Thank you so much for the show !! This is amazing. Every week.
Heard "Heist" on the show's album and loved it. Glad to see it appear in such a memorable episode.
Thank you for these eps ❤
Love and Respect, Cory! Thank you for the MUSIC!!! Hugs from Bulgaria!
Kenni was already my favorite on the show and this ep just solidifies it even more haha great bait and switch and ep in general
Highly entertaining episode! I especially enjoyed seeing Kenni get a turn in the spotlight. He IS the man!
dude i swear your channel is the greatest. fresh entertaining content and great lessons
I love the amount of energy there is in this show!
Heist was amazing. Gonna find that song and add it to a playlist. Oh and the rest of the episode was great too. Hope we get to learn about tritone substitutions some day!
This is just beyond fantastic. Thank you!
Everything about that show is amazing! Hats off!
These episodes always put a huge smile on my face.
Endlessly fun, and my god, Kenni Holman!
Love Cory’s shows! 👍👍👍
BEASTS! All of you! You make me so happy! Somebody said it already, but I'll second it: I don't want this band to ever end!
As always, every episode amazing
Great series! Looking forward to the new material, cheers!
thanku!
It just gets better and better. I cant wait for the new video!@!@@
So well produced, great stuff!
That interview was hilarious! And the documentary intro was so good! Great episode!
What amazing video production
Best medicine for anything, this show!
Outstanding...!
PLEASE do more of this ...!!!
Wow never heard a sax sound like that before. So much talent in this band it’s freakin sick!
Your skits are just TOO good.
That closing tune is amazing
Were you talking about Heist or the actual closing of the episode???
Heist was great. The song that Cory briefly alludes to is "Simon F15" by the Fearless Flyers. The song at the VERY end is the same motif "FE D, FE FF ED (D up and octave) FE D, FE CC BBb" with Kenni taking a solo.
So either you really like Heist or you should check out Simon F15
this is absolutely amazing !!!!
Yupp greatness here 💯💯 enjoyed every second
Love this !
not the episode we deserved, but the episode we needed
Hahaha yes
This is my favorite thing to come out in 2021.
Frickin' love this tune bud!
What did I just stumble on to? Amazing.
Does anyone else watching this feel like "shit this feels like it was made just for me 😳". Sup weirdos. You are not alone 🙌🏻
Super show guys!
We need more Cory and the Wongnotes with the Tom Misch and the Vulf crew!!
man, i love this show..
freshly creative!
Awesome saxophonist! One of a kind! 😁
I had no idea this show existed! It really put a smile on my face :)
I loooooooooove this show!
oh my god I love this show so much
absolute fire
Whooooohaaaa .. that horn-section is just phenomenal - funk on 🕺🏻
He's such a beast !
My favorite thing to say while I'm walking in the park is "the birds are singing polyrhythms again"
Cory: " Kenni Holmen is a animal!!"
Kenni's Sax: " Yep"
🤷♂️
Kenni's high note tickeled the inside of my brain
This is the kind of content I signed up to YT for!
Great stuff!
That half-time at the end was a treat!
Damn. I wish I have a quarter of Cory's charisma. He makes everything he plays just so full of life.
That flute solo is wonderful
im excited!
Yes!
This was incredible!!! Makes me want to play sax
Jesus you didn’t have to roast me that hard with the Katie the Hunter bit lmao
Great presentation 😎🌹🌹🌹😎
This show is so underrated man
Amazing
spectacular saxophonist
