Fish Tails #8 - Ultralight Fishing Berkley Gulp Earthworms vs Live Earthworms

2 hours (or so) ultralight fishing for bream with my new Quantum Ultralight telecast rod and using Berkley Gulp Earthworms for the first time. Between the Gulp worms and real worms I caught 20. Guess which one worked best!

15 lb braid on a UL? I'm real new to all this. I'm using 6 lb braid and going to try 4 lb shortly. But you brought in more fish in two hours than I pulled in in June so maybe I'm heading in the wrong direction. I seem to have more luck with a mono leader. I really would like to tie braid off directly to the lure but I seem to do a little better with some mono at the end. I found this video searching "worms for ultralight" and you've given me some things to try. It would be real nice to have a day of fishing similar to yours!

Yeah, 15 lb braid because that's what I had left over from my other reels. May change it out to smaller someday but it's working. As for the 20 in two hrs, probably just luck of the right place at the right time. Took me about half an hour to find that spot. Gonna go back soon with the same setup to see if I can repeat. I switched to braid mainly to eliminate (well ALMOST eliminate) line twist/wind knots. At first I was going straight to a snap swivel and then snapping on everything, straight to hooks and hard baits. I have a tendency for feeding the dreaded tree fish and after one instance of loosing about half my spool of braid I started using a mono leader so I could break off when that happens and not lose yardage of braid (and worst leave it dangling cause I can't get to it). If you watch my 4th of July vid you'll see the first time that was put into practice when a tree ate my chatterbait. Kevin, I hope to get back to that pond after work today, and a side note: I just noticed that the ultralight setup is with the 15 lb braid as I said, and it is tied DIRECTLY to the jig head, not leader! We'll see if I can repeat, this time NO live worms, just the Berkley Gulp Earthworms!
