    I know you said damage reduction only affects physical damage, but I think it would be really awesome to have DR for mental defenses or other damage types as well, just through other types of items. Rings, necklaces, potions, spells, skills, etc. I think it could add a huge about of depth for itemization. The idea that you know you're going to go to a dangerous ice cave, so you specifically try to gear yourself towards it.

    • @TheDungeonCoach
      @TheDungeonCoach  Před 7 měsíci +19

      That IS in the game! There is something called “Resist X” which reduces the damage from certain types of damage by “x”! ❤

    • @NageIfar
      @NageIfar Před 7 měsíci +5

      @@TheDungeonCoach That's awesome, but then i think the character sheet should reflect that by splitting the DR field into two halves.
      Maybe there could be a cool design where the right half is a physical shield/breastplate as it is atm and the left side is more ephemeral/energy/arcane based.

    I actually think that general physical and mental saves are redundant. Four saves are enough. Not only that, they also force you to put your second highest attribute score into the opposite category, of you waste the saving throw. Everything can be nicely tied into four saves.
    Might = fortitude, pain threshold, resistance to stun and poison.
    Agility = reflexes, being able to dodge traps, wriggle out of grapples and evade fireballs.
    Intelligence = mind, detecting illusions and charm, magical deception and suggestion.
    Charisma = character, will, resistance to fear and domination, effects that try to break you.

    I really can't see how having two more names (fortitude and grit) makes physical and mental saves easier to understand... I think it is more elegant the way it was on 0.4, as a mental save represents the higher on this group of mental attributes

    If damage reduction only applies to physical, then it shouldn't be between mental and physical. Make that section after physical only.
    The order of things is strange too. For attributes you do physical then mental. You also list stamina then mana. Then they magically reverse for mental and physical defenses?
    I really don't understand why we have a save for each attribute AND a save for physical (fortitude) and mental (grit). We have 6 saves with massive overlap in addition to 2 defenses?

    I really hope @TheDungeonCoach sees this comment. I'm really loving what I've been learning about this rpg and I already bought the alpha on the site. Not only that, but I also plan to become a patreon to support this project even more. But I think that the naming of certain things could be better (and I know through your videos that wording is important to you). So I have 3 suggestions. I think that the "Charisma" Attribute could be renamed "Empathy" (it would fit better the skills that it governs, and it's more "mentally" than Charisma which is always wrongly associated to beauty). Also, "Martial check" for "Athletic" or "Acrobatic checks" doesn't feel right to me. I think "Physical check" would be better and more accurate, just my opinion. Lastly, and the most important in my opinion, is "combat mastery" and "mastery" (one is raised by increments of 2 if you put points into it and the other increases automatically by level). I think they're as confusing 😕as Armor Class and classes in Dnd and I know you don't like that one. So why do the same in your own system ? So for "combat mastery" I would suggest "Efficiency" or, better yet, "Combativity" (yes it's a word, a synonym for "combativeness", but cooler 😃). www.thesaurus.com/browse/combativity (I checked, it isn't a made up word).
    I hope you'll take my suggestions into consideration🤞
    And let's make this game a real contender for the best RPG 😁

    I need, NEED a warlock. My main fantasy is a pact with a grand being, blasting enemies away with a familiar by your side and an alternative casting way. Also, options, and I think other systems have it pretty nicely bundled between a martial and more casting oriented options. It would very interesting to see the stamina system fit to work with this alternative casting!

    One piece of feedback: i have thought in 5e d&d that athletics is too broad of a catch all skill. Separating it out into Strength and Stamina (or whatever) could add interesting choices to character themes and solving situations. Just a quick thought. Cool work do far!

  • @dmi_no
    @dmi_no Před 5 měsíci +1

    Don't you think, "animal" skill is a bit too situational?
    May be it could be put into some other skill? Survival or Influence?
    On the other side there could be another Skill in Charisma.
    For example, "Imitation".
    "Imitation" is the ability to look and act like someone else (false identity), imitate sounds or voices of other people.
    Cause now there is no skill in dc20 skill list that do such things.
    And Imitation fits rather well.

    exciting! a question: looks like "prime" is such an important stat-- but doesn't that limit leveling up/increasing stats really to *only* levelling your one prime attribute as otherwise you'd nerf some core stats opportunity cost wise?

    • @TheDungeonCoach
      @TheDungeonCoach  Před 7 měsíci +4

      It would BUT that is exactly why there is an Attribute CAP of 3 at level 1 and that stays until level 5 (then it goes up to a CAP of 4). So you will have time to customize between that, and then at level 5 you can put an attribute point into your 3 to make it a 4 :)

    Instead of different categories of hit, why not just add an additional point for damage for each point you go over a creature’s AC? For example, if a creatures has an AC of 15, and the player rolls a 20 then it adds 5 points of damage to the roll which could be interpreted as a “heavy” hit.

    Hi Coach! I love how fast you can create a new character in this system. It is a pity that you can not show us already creation with backgrounds or ancestry.
    I would like to know more about your language thoughts.
    Because you said that everybody speaks in Common (fluent?) but in my opinion it is not true.
    I would give the player one fluent language and two points to put in any language he/she wants.
    For example you can be an elf raised by a little commune of dwarves and speak fluent in dwarvish but have limited knowledge about common and elvish language.
    If 99/100 players would choose common as their fluent language then it is their choice

    Does the change from Mental to Grit Saves also change Mental to Grit Damage? I ask because holy damage is mental, but low level undead are probably mindless and should by logic be immune too mental attacks.
    Second question, where does size goes on this sheet and how much is its Impact? In D&D and PF2e the only thing it really effects is carry capacity even so it should do so much more. Smaller targets are harder to hit. Less mass means less force behind attacks (that's why boxing weight classes exist). Smaller species like gnomes (about the size of a 3 year old) or fairies (a cat or smaller) would take way more damage then an adult human from the same attack. Then there is hiding, grappling and some more.
    And for the love of Darwin, give nightvision only to a few ancestries that are truely nocturnal, and as our eyes are light detectors find something better then this illogical darkvision.

    • @cuptainreese
      @cuptainreese Před 7 měsíci +1

      I'd love to have truly thought out rules for Ancestry sizes. But I don't want the disadvantages to be too crippling. Maybe for Tiny creatures, they get a +1 or +2 (depending on balancing) to AC but they also receive +1 to physical damage if they get it. Maybe +2 if the damage type is bludgeoning.

    I don't get how a character could have a -1 score in a specific skill, yet gain a mastery over that one (Step 2). It looks like someone who cannot multiply 3 by 9 but still says is a master at mathematics, or someone calling themselves geography masters yet not being able to place Los Angeles, Paris or Shanghai on a map.
    In your scenario, a character with a -1 in Charisma should definitely get their save points rounded down. I'll explain it: Someone who believes is a master when he/she sucks at something is bound to make mistakes plus their ego prevents them from improving. In the case of charisma, it might be misinterpreting someone's behavior, or not noticing how manipulating a person is for example (= lower save chance overall, or similar to your base score, but definitely NOT higher).
    But maybe I missed something. It just doesn't sound logical to me.

    • @TheDungeonCoach
      @TheDungeonCoach  Před 7 měsíci

      Simple answer is this:
      You could have a character with a low charisma (representing them being bad at interacting with people socially)... BUT you could have Charisma Save Mastery (beacuse you are good at resisting being posessed and you have a strong sense of self or other lore or magic reasons why you want your character to be good against Charisma Saves, etc) I hope that helps!

    • @AlexanderBaird
      @AlexanderBaird Před 7 měsíci

      @@lisasarwar8702 if I’m understanding correctly, your concern is about natural aptitude vs training? In that case, I think a good example is two people can be very good at math, but the one with the higher intelligence doesn’t take as long to work through the problems / has quicker recall in the heat of the moment. I knew a lot of people in college who were very capable but struggled with timed exams, so I imagine when a wizard with a low intelligence but a high charisma is out adventuring, they aren’t as good at quickly sussing out the magical trap’s function as a high intelligence wizard, even though their spell casting ability is the same.

    • @lisasarwar8702
      @lisasarwar8702 Před 7 měsíci

      @@AlexanderBaird This is about save mastery in a skill and the level of a character in that specific skill. I fail to understand the link between your example and that, given that you illustrate with two different skills (intelligence and charisma) instead of a unique skill and its save mastery. The rest makes sense when it comes to inate vs learnt abilities / intelligence and recollecting information abilities of a character.
      Anyway... I came to the conclusion that it didn't really make sense (in my opinion - that you could have a -1 skill score and have a mastery in that skill anyway) and I would eventually include a rule stating that a skill with 0 or less points cannot benefit from a save mastery. I would have to see how the final version of DC20 looks like to be more accurate on the topic but would eventually be open to compensate such an early-game restriction by giving players the ability to change a mastery if they later evolve their base skills, and even more so if it makes sense with the campaign/lore of their character.
