    Im sorry I missed what the bump actually is.

    • @muddythumper8152
      @muddythumper8152  Před rokem +1

      the little bump on the metal piece is used for timing purposes. The black piece with the electrical wires is essentially a sensor. It is used to tell the ignition circuit when to spark / at the correct time in the combustion cycle. Essentially its a start pulse ignition system.
      Basically, the CDI waits around for the pulse generator to tell it that the piston has just hit some point before TDC, and then waits the appropriate amount of time

      Thanks for your reply. Focusing in on 5:50 (ish) your thumb kind of points to an area near the slotting. Is that the general area? I may have mistakenly asked what the bump was when I meant to where it is.

    Im working on a 84 200s right now. I dont have a volt meter. So i checked for spark by hanging the spark plug on the block. No spark. Then tried a screwdriver. No spark. Held screwdriver in hand gave me a slight tickle only. The gap on the cdi is clean and gapped right. Would that be a coil problem?

    • @muddythumper8152
      @muddythumper8152  Před 2 lety +2

      Could be a lot of things. if you don't have a volt meter get a test light. First rule out the Stator, then CDI connections , pulse generator mainly. If all those components are good only thing else it can be is a broken connection or loose connection. I have a video on my channel on how to troubleshoot spark it should help. Even a cheap multimeter ( like 20$ unit should help ). Recently i put up how to troubleshoot spark on a 250es, check that out too. Although engines are different the process is the same. • @muddythumper8152
      @muddythumper8152  Před 3 lety +2

      Ideally you want to swap out the swing because its centrifugal so it does affect the timing as the engine spins up. Now its not a huge difference but it does certainly affect the quality of the spark / timing

      the bump is what tells the bike when to spark, if you know where it broke to be honest you could probably do a small weld and some fine grinding with a dremel or just replace the camshaft these bikes are easy to work on and cheap.
