I remember a few years ago he was trailing by 9 goals for the coleman in the last round and he went out and kicked 10. Pretty much sums up buddy.
Well done Lance Franklin. What a great player. For since I started watching the AFL from the early 90s, Gary Ablett Jnr and Lance Franklin has been the best player i have watched.

I am not a Hawks or Sydney fan but I watched Bud every chance I could get. Amazing player and did things no one else could. Absolutely should get legend status without a doubt.

Shame about the sydney years.
No amount of money could buy the value of Buddy in Sydney. Single handedly fascinated people from a rugby state and enthralled them with AFL. The Swans recent high membership total originates from Buddy. Repaid in spades the money for his contract. No player in history has promoted the game and put bums on seats more so than Buddy.

I am a hawk and love budd but he is not the goat! Top 10 yes but players like ablett snr leigh matthews wayne cary darren jarman the list goes on! A champion but he was not like the best who did it it ALL! Budd not a great mark could not kick both feet just lacks the COMPLETE game! Watch gary ablett snr video 1 fine season and leigh matthews lethal video! And i think budd should of stayed at hawks he would have another 2 cups and maybe we could of been won 2016 as well with budd ! that would be 5 cups but probably 2million dollars less than he got at swans! He hated Melbourne he said its to cold and ive always said he left Melbourne not hawk's! And i believe thats true! absolute hogwash - insulting to put him in the same sentence as Jarman. Of this century (form 2000 onwards for the slow ones) Buddy is head and shoulders above anyone else who played the game. Only Matthews, Carey and Ablett Snr are in the conversation with him - but they played in a different era of zoning and a umpires giving soft frees to defenders - with all that he kicked a 1000 goals - no one in the era has come vaguely close

Smart took spekies played half back midfield full forward and back when it was TUFF AS NAILS! Budd would not be of got a kick in those days so many off his goals were from free kicks soft as would not of got them back in jarsy days! Remember back in 89 Grand final were you had dermi with broken ribs and dipper a punchered lung both played whole game carrying life threatening injuries especially dipper! Dermi was pissiing blood! Yeah those days! These were freak players that kicked both sides of there body took screamers won group balls played all over the ground they were COMPLETE players! Budd was not! Look I said he is in the top 10 he was a special talent but he was not a complete player! If he was a strong contested mark could play down back kicked both feet then he would be in the conversation! And he was a horrible grand final player! He played well in 2014 the rest he was average at best! I don't think you watched much of jarsy to be honest he was a more complete player simple as that and they are worth there weight in gold to help win cups! The best rise on the last day budd had plenty of chances and only played let's say good in 2014 and hawk's THRASHED them by 11 goals! 2008 2012 2013 did nothing! Different type of players. Buddy was way more athletic, Lloyd was speed and more clinical.
In my humble opinion, he is the modern day Wayne Carey. Carey was much more magnificent and formidable in his marking contest and one on one strength contest against defenders than Buddy, I will admit that. In terms of offensive efficiency, power, determination and athleticism, he is one of the top five players in the history of the league if not the game.
