- some '010s nostalgia for Valentine's Day... it's hard to believe that this "new" classic (by my timescale) turns 8 years old this month. The song was written by the prodigiously talented Hawaii native Peter Hernandez (aka Bruno Mars) with his longtime songwriting partner Philip Lawrence, along with an outside collaborator, Andrew Wyatt. Bruno and Philip shared a storybook rags-to-riches tale in Los Angeles in the '00s as they spent 4 years together working their way into the music industry... i read that Bruno changed his name from the Puerto Rican "Hernandez" because he got sick of record executives telling him that he was going to be the next Enrique Iglesias. Anyway it all worked out rather nicely in the end, as the 2010 debut album of Mars and Lawrence, joined by producer Ari Levine, went multi-platinum and won a Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal. So ladies, i hope he buys you flowers and gives you all of his hours today... thanks for listening. No commercial use.
