I couldn't agree more, what pisses me off is shit like the Anaheim/STL clip. You can tell Sundqvist didn't mean to hurt Gibson and put his hand on his back and leaned in to talk to him, only to get jumped by the douchebag Ducks. As a goaltender myself, I get protecting your goalie, but I've yelled and pulled my own teammates off an opposing player for that shit, especially if I know they didn't mean it or tried to check on me afterwards.

@Dimetime35c As somone who plays goalie, I can concure. Those blocker's are built tough, and like you said typically have a piece of plastic or hard composite material running the length of each side and if they're used correctly, they're like hitting someone with a brick. People think that they're just soft pillows but they're really not. Same with some leg pads as well. I had a pair of Bauer pads that also had a hard composite material running the length and my teammates hated them because if they rushed the net during practice like our coach had them do sometimes, they would run into my pads and they always said it felt like being kicked in the legs when they hit them
Like all these other goalies getting straight bulldozed and their like "oh yeah it was an accident. Totally understandable" but not Mike Smith. Malkin barely touched him too.

@@DJ_Mooster firstly, PROTECT YOUR GOALIE is the #1 rule of EVERY hockey game/league/team ever, if your goalie gets hit for any reason you protect him, even if Gibson puts himself in that position to have a chance at getting player has to try to move to the other side of him or stop, he kept his speed and ran into him, and I know how hard it is to stop on a dime like that but idc what anybody says, protect your goalie is the first thing you look at and think when your goalie gets hit, any level of hockey, Ik you said that there’s a level of protecting and what not but even if he checks to see if he’s okay, the game moves at a pace of a car on the highway, even if he checked it was like .2 seconds of him turning till he got rushed by player of the ducks

A goalie could go fucking halfway to the ice and get checked and people would still protect the goalies dumb ass. Protecting the goalie being rule 1 can be incredibly flawed

For the first one, I will almost never do this but Imma go to bat for the Bruins. Jack Edwards is 100% right. Pasta got tripped into the goalie, and Bergeron put the rebound in before the whistle. By rule, it's a good goal and good call by the refs there.

I'm no blues fan. However sundquist hit was pure accidental. You even see at 6:57 or 6:58, he pats him, checking if he is good. Hell he even lunged towards the boards to try and escape collusion with him.

Officiating is a joke when it comes to "goalie interference". They get so many calls wrong. I'm surprised they got the Boston goal right. I thought that was one that they were gonna side with the goalie on.
Penalty should of been called, goal shouldn't have counted since goalie was down but the continuous motion rule is fucking stupid

At least against the avs, because there is no way Samuel Girard (5'10" 160 lbs defenseman) made a legitimate push against the forward he just made no effort to avoid contact.

I don’t really get it. I don’t know how the refs call that when the Avs players doesn’t let the jets players go any where. I ref and I’m a goalie and I’d really try and and talk to my guys on that. Tough call
1:04, right before covid i actually got hit by something very similar to this, the difference is I (the goalie) was on the ground and the two skaters lost control and fell. The end result was pretty similar with me having a mild concussion. I didnt lose consiousness, but I feel this hit

Unpopular opinion: if a goalie comes out of the crease and plays the puck they should be fair game just like any other player
I agree and disagree. In most instances (begind the net), their backs are exposed, which is still boarding or charging. However, with instances when they come out past the slot to play the puck, fair game.

I’m a centermen at a high level let. Me tell you when your goalie is frustrated you know you will be dragged in somehow! I’m so frustrated that my team got nocked out in round 3 of the playoffs we did so good that season I scored 39 goals in the regular season and 17 in the playoffs! One a dude pocked our goalie’s glove when it was covered and my teammate who is a defender dropped the gloves and it was a pretty good scrap I loved watching it! LOL! I understand frustration in that game when it actually means a lot at such a high level!

He literally blocked the guys entire lane when he was going full speed. If anything that’s an interference penalty against Gibson. Not a St.Louis fan btw so no bias

@14:30 to some extent that guy knew the goaltender was out and nearby. He reaches his stick out to try and poke the puck forward out of reach of the goalie's stick, he is trying to make a play.

I’m a goalie apart of fusion girls team and I’ve Ben hart like them and because we have more geer we can’t really take hits to the back because that’s where we’re least Portected from skates, sticks,punches, and even hits so I can realate to all of these goalies because when I was in a game I almost tore my lags appart because my knees did the backwards shimy.
It seems as if there is at least one injury in every Winter/Heritage classic this year.
I love the one were the whole team is fighting, but two players. Those two players skated up to the scene looked at each other, one put their arm around the others shoulders and backed away.
You can then see them at the bottom of the frame causally talking.
It sort of make me wonder how many of these “fights” are for entertainment value.
