    At this time, getting a 350z as a drift car is much cheaper and will give you a lot less problems. For $8500, you could get a pretty decent condition 04-06 model, weld the diff, spend the rest of the money on cooling mods and you got yourself the perfect seat time car. I have a 240sx coupe. I didn't purchase for drift or motorsports, but simply that I have always loved this car. Soooo basically to restore and have a fun car to drive. It does have an SR20, but I wanted a turbo motor without the high horsepower and problems that can come with them. I wanted a car I could drive to shows and meets that was just all around fun to drive. Not knocking on drifters, bc I have respect for them; this is just why I bought my 240. Oh and I paid 2,000 for it..just needed a new master clutch cylinder 🙂

  • @Frank_Torre
    @Frank_Torre Pƙed 2 lety +8

    Starting out in a S13, 180SX or 240SX is the best car to start drifting in. Though I disagree with the KA24 being a good engine to run in your drift car. It's lack of power doesn't suit the drifting you see stateside. As you see more drifters stateside rely on power over technique. As you don't really see tight small drift courses that require finesse. I learned to drift in Saitama Japan on mountain roads. They are all complete death traps. So abuse of power would get you dead super fast. 300hp is roughly the most horsepower one should have when beginning drifting. It'll make taking on tight twisting courses a breeze and you'll have power for more wide open courses. What's really important is to master the basic techniques to drifting. From e-brake, shift locking and power over drifts to more advanced skills like feint and a high speed braking drift. Either way the S chassis is the best drift car worldwide. But the drift tax on cars is beyond ridiculous at times.

Had some mods on it too like an ISR exhaust, CX racing coilovers, Grip Royal steering wheel and an e-brake button mod (I think that’s what it’s called). He also threw in a đŸœ front end w/ lip which I have on rn, welded diff and a couple other stuff. Though paint was bad and had some rust I managed to fix it up and give it a complete make over. Atm I’m building a KA-T and putting on some 57DR’s on this bad boy, but before I put everything in I’m going to paint my engine bay and do some more rust repairs. Things are looking good😎

    3 years ago I got my first 350z for $3600... Basically i had an 04 lifted full bolt on "bulletproofed" 6.0 powerstroke on 24x14 fuel forged wheels and 37" fuel gripper Mt tires.. paid $10k for it, got offered a (believe it or not) "pretty" clean 04 java black pearl Subaru STI with tons of rare subie gang parts, making almost 400whp with proof of build and power plus he added cash on top of it for my 6.0 powerstroke. Long story I know, to keep it short I sold the STI for a good price, and was able to buy a 2005 350z 6spd manual with full bolt ons coilovers and some decent fitment 20" xxr wheels for $3600.. THIRTY SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS! The only rust was on the W brace which was replaced with an aftermarket brace anyway. Car was clean it even passed NH state inspection and had clean title. Posted for 5500, immediately got paid asking price.. and I look back at that today like seriously wtf. That was a $12k 350z today, a $20k STI today, and a $25k powerstroke today. It's insane

    I used to have a clean S13 coupe with a VLSD, coilovers, and Silvia conversion (all of which I added). Sold it in 2012 when I went to Japan for an internship. My older brother still has his S13 hatch from high school (first car 2006). From stock to SR swap, 2 way lsd, and 180sx Type X kit. 240's are uncommon because of all the "drifters" being poor and wanting instant gratification buying and putting on shit parts. When I would buy parts from others, I would hear about how many s-chassis they have and part one out or take a clean one and gut it or whatever. When I sold my 240, I actually sold it for more than what I bought it for including the parts combined, and yes, me and my brother both drift. There's no greater satisfaction than having a nice looking S13, driving to the track, drifting, and then driving it home. I got an FR-S after I returned from Japan. You can't beat a new car in terms of comfort, reliability, and parts availability. 240sx's are going the way of old muscle cars soon. Gonna need to have money and patience to source quality parts, otherwise they're gonna go extinct. I rather drift on a VLSD than welded diff. Welded diff = poverty level. Just my opinion. Still much love for the S-chassis no matter how people modify them. These cars are rare now. Thanks for posting the video.

    Please don’t. Save yourself the headache and the financial blowback and look at an e36 or a foxbody.
    Sure they’re fun, but they are extremely overhyped.
    They’re great, but you can find something similar for FAR LESS.

      Given the hard times we’re in. I’d still place my bets on anything else literally that isn’t an s-chassis. Everyone has almost obliterated any remaining cars left. Inflation didn’t skyrocket the value of the cars, the drift community did and you can thank them for that.
      They were cheap disposable fun little cars 15-20 years, today that isn’t feasible anymore. Ain’t fun when you’re thrashing a 8,500 beer can into a wall.

If I had to go back and do it over, I would've bought an E46 M3. I have one now and its way more car than a 240 could ever hope to be. Hilariously enough, it's more reliable than my 240...

    My nephew just imported a Silvia from japan... the body and interior are pristine. He however disregarded my whole opinion on the car (I worked as a mechanic for 10 years). He spent about 19k to get it to him and has already spent about 1.2k to fix things but that's just the beginning. Coilovers are dead and the breaks and tires are dead... it has 100k on it and needs new fluids then probably a reseal and tune up. By the time he is done ide be willing to bet he has another 6k to fix the car sometimes lifes lessons are learned the hard way (at least he loves the car) The question ide ask yourself if you are looking to buy a 240 or import one is do you have a f%&k ton of money to yeet at a car because it WILL require work.
