Nissan 240SX S13 - From Stock to Competition Drift Car | RadVentures

- For Ryan Symancek, a car’s character only comes alive in its true element. RadVentures isn’t a show about staring at museum pieces; it’s a show about feel. The feeling you get when you push a car to its full potential.
With this episode, Ryan focuses on the most popular drift chassis, the early ‘90s Nissan 240SX S13.
It’s element is a drift track, so Ryan’s shows up at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ with a few 240SXs to see what all the hype is about. These cars are extremely easy to set up and make good drift cars in today’s world, but that’s not exactly what Nissan had in mind when they first went into production.
The Nissan 240SX was the absolute definition of a budget sports car back in the ‘90s, much like the Subaru BRZ or Toyota GT86 are today. So, Ryan shakes down a completely stock 240SX first. However, it doesn’t take long for him to realize just how good they are at sliding! Once infiltrated by Alex Jagger and Matt Bystrak of the Gas Factory drift team, the adrenaline is cranked all the way to one hundred, with some serious tandem drifting!

Bravo, Hagerty. You guys have absolutely done an amazing job with this reboot. The presenters are absolutely stellar, the stories are compelling and the production is top-notch. You guys are quickly becoming my favorite automotive CZcams channel!
Thank you!
Couldn't agree more!! This stuff is gold for us enthusiasts.
@Albon what happened to your original MKIV, I have been watching your channel for a long time
Best 240sx video ever love it
I was just thinking "I wonder what ever happened to the dude from my life as a rallyist?" Stoked to see you making videos again!
It took a while to find a new home, but I'm glad Hagerty was willing to give this a chance!
i like this ddude
I knew I recognized this guy from somewhere but just couldn’t place him. Well done!
I know im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I was dumb lost my password. I would love any help you can give me.
@Titan Dominik instablaster :)
I worked at a Nissan dealership when these first arrived. They were beautiful vehicles, and I wished I could have purchased one just like this one.
They are still beautiful. Best looking car I've seen in my life
Yeah I'd love one (probably an S15 for me though).
They're much cheaper and more widely available in my country, but they hit bottom dollar a couple years before I could drive and before I had any money and have gone up in price at about the same pace as my income 😂 at least our Silvia's all came with CA engines in the early days and SR after that, and RB's are plentiful and cheap here
They're cheaply built econo cars that happen to be rear drive. Sad so many have been rice ruined.
This is the best series Hagerty has done, easily. I'm loving this!
This was my first car as a 16 year old. Taught me how to drive well, and drift. I’ve had a BMW 540, and a few E36’s
This car turned in and out like nothing else.
Dude these cars were so unique and so prime for their time. It's so cool to see how popular they became, and how many different builds people have made with them. The S-Chassis is every drift fiend's dream, and seeing these things in the spotlight from Hagerty themselves for their significance in the car scene really means a lot. SILVIA FOR INFINITY AND BEYOND
When the cinematography and song choices just work so well together. Well done. 👏
I can't begin to tell you how many hours I spend finding the right music. I obsess over it. My cameraman and I are a really good team for these videos. Thanks for noticing the detail!
@@RyanSymancek I can't even begin to imagine. Love it!!! Great job to you both!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Such a blast:) The S13 is my first true automotive love. I’ve owned three of them. And selling my 380hp CA18DET powered coupe is something I’ll probably regret forever. Someday we will meet again.
this was great!!!!! Between Cammisa's shows and this, i can definitely say that this is my favorite youtube channel!!!
The engine rebuild videos with Davin Reckow are really good too!
Never thought Hagerty would be done of my favorite channels
Is that "one" of my favorite channels?
Hagerty is stepping it up with these vids! I only wish it was longer! I’ve been looking for a s13 chassis so long. Dam it, gotta find one before it’s too late!
Already too late. Stock they really aren't that great.
best car in the world for sure!
Ryan, awesome job mate!! Great to see you’ve found a new home for presenting some absolutely stellar cars! And the production quality? Insane 👌
Than you buddy, as always!
@@RyanSymancek new season coming?!
I've had my 200sx RS13U (european spec, which comes with the CA18DET) for 14 years. I bought it from an 82 year old man, Mr Price, who stayed in my home town, Cape Town South Africa. He imported it brand new in 1992 from Belgium to South Africa. I bought it from him (I was the second owner from brand new) for R18 000 ($1158) in 2008, it had 78 000km (48 000 miles) Full service history, everything was OEM, including the rims, radio, sunroof bag, full tool kit and jack and some other OEM goodies from Nissan in Belgium.
After 14 years of ownership, she still puts a smile on my face, hearing the turbo and exhaust sound. Looking at her all polished and clean always makes me think what a beautiful car that Japanese made.
My 200sx still is OEM, with a full service history, original radiator, original shocks, original springs (never cut), still stock height, original rims, original midnight blue paint, the only upgrade i ever did to my car, was a stainless steel exhaust and T28/T25 turbo, original exhaust manifold, original injectors. She is making a reliable 158kws and 285nm. The current milage is a very healthy 184 000kms (114 332 miles) still full service history, i change the oil and oil filter every 5000kms (3100 miles).
If you guys would like to see pictures of my car follow me on instagram @200sx_ca18det
Thank you so much for actually capturing why we drift. Awesome video
The first new car I purchased was a 1990 240SX SE fastback with 5-speed in gray. It served me well for ten years and 120,000 miles.
My favorite is 1950 onward..
There's gems and beautys through every decade! Up to today!!
Fun fact, part of what makes the S13 so tail happy is the huge amount of anti-squat found in the rear subframe geometry. I personally track mine (grip) and planning to swap an S14 rear subframe in it for more grip in the back.
Killed it! Nice content. Glad to see home track🙌
That was fantastic! It brought back so many great memories of my 1989 coupe in that exact Champagne color combination. I bought mine new and had it for 15 years before selling it to take a year sabbatical to do a motorcycle trip. I live in Canada and the car was my daily driver. Let me say that with proper snow tires it was a hell of a lot of fun in winter!
ohhh that was such a great watch! thank you for that!
It's great content like this, and well put together videos, which is why I subbed! No regrets!
Such a great and fun episode! Congrats Ryan and team! Feels like spiritual continuity of Rallist series :)
Tried to through all the passion I could into this, just like Rallyist a few years ago :)
Great job with this! Wonderful piece! Between this and Jason and Jack I'm loving Hagerty
Great film Hagerty! Keep doing this kind of content, we love it!! I also want more Tom Cotter, Davin and Jason
the last minute of this video is pretty much summing up my last 20yrs with my S13. lol.
My best friend rebuilt a 240SX in high school. It was a blast! Awesome video!
Awesome shots and story - great job guys!
My friend’s cousin has a Nissan 240SX. They love it 👍
Awesome video guys!! Very well put together! Looking forward to next episode.
Anything that MA has there hands in is done right ✅.. Brian and the guys there live and breath this stuff and they are great builders..
Got that right!
Alex has a new car being built at MA right now for the 2021 season, and it's gonna be wild!
@@RyanSymancek I grew up with those guys they've grown a ton through the years.. I still take my cars there for race alignments.. even a supercharged mustang on Volk TEs.. Brian is a great fabricator and welder.. I'm sure the new ride will be unbelievable!!!
Love your series!
The seatbelt bit made me laugh so hard I cried!
It's such a timeless car. It looks so beautiful
This series is awesome, thanks Hagerty
The S14 is truly my favorite car of all time. It was my first car and I’m saving to buy another one. A love affair lol
Really enjoyed this episode!
Great stuff to all involved! Lovin' it and can't wait for more! When do we get the next episode?
Next week! Thanks guys!
I have one 240sx - white hatch 1989 with ka24e turbo. In Saint-Petersburg...Russia. =)
Congrats on your new series Ryan. Used to follow your every video as a Rallyist, so i'm looking forward to enjoy this new series... Cheers all the way from Portugal. 👍🏻
Thank you!
Great video! Btw the seatbelt latch being so high was placed there because it is automatic. Once you turn the power on the ignition the belt goes over you. This was optional to avoid airbag mandate. So they did indeed know what they were doing! (Auto seatbelt, also one of my favorite 90's features.)
Great video, love it!
Excellent video, thx.
Love the series! Keep it up! Love the host, been watching him since the rally series on The Drive.
Thank you! Glad you found this!
@@RyanSymancek well, didn't realize you got your own channel. Subscribed, and will start catching up on those vids. Already see a few that caught my eye.... Keep it up dude!!!
Enjoyed that video! Thanks! :)
Wooow. I'm Impressed.
Awesome series
My only regret in life is selling my 240sx. Went through 7 of them to rebuild the original i had bought back in 2001. Took it down to just the body and frame, even stripped the original paint and rebuilt it with all new and improved parts. Thing was a monster. Built a few others on the side to flip and make money. Amazing cars.
Everyone in awhile I see mine around town and of course its always being fixed from a wreck and the latest owner claims to have built it from scratch until i start pointing out all the custom work i did haha.
Outstanding.
Great video!
Here’s why you should consider keeping your 240 stock. Also, never keep your 240 stock. Love it.
stock 240SXs are awesome little cars. It's sad they've soared in price and no longer exist in "unmolested" trim but I'm really happy we still have cars like the BRZ still around which are surprisingly similar. Don't care about drifting.
What a beautiful car
well done my dude.
Awesome video, i have an s14, had it since 07’
Those seats look so comfy...
best channel on youtube
Have had 3.. Love to see these still driving around, whether in comp. or the streets..
I want a clean shell so bad... Someday, right?
@@RyanSymancek I've owned 3 in 5 years, so yeah dude just keep your head up and always be looking and saving!
Nice review I like it
Love it already. Go Ryan & go Hagerty.
Guys you are amazing!! I feel like I am watching a high dollar TV production, but its youtube. Keep killing it guys and making amazing content.
Thank you. Tell your friends, maybe we can do more!
240sx is a S13 I've never seen, (In NZ) my mother brought a S13 Silvia (CA18DE Auto) around 97. Used Japan import.
What trips me out is the BROWN! interior! I've never seen a S13 with that colour interior and I've seen 100's.
I remember a lot early to mid 80's Datsuns/Nissans had brown interiors.
This made me so happy to see. I own a 240 and have been working on it to make it run and drive reliably. It's such a pretty car and I just wish they lasted forever 🥲
This channel feels like its going through an anime redemption arc, and I'm here for all of it.
I had a 1990 240sx that was bone stock other than the B&M short throw shifter I put in it. And this video makes me miss that car dearly...
Nice video!!!
nice quality video, 240s can kick hard!
Damn, this made want to go the track!
Best show on CZcams
that last bit had me Haha!!! so true
We in UK/Europe had the 200SX in that shape, I still have the 90's brochure from my childhood.
Hagerty is putting out great content and filling in the gap Motortrend has left.
I MISSED RYAN. THANK YOU HAGERTY
My ultimate dream car
theres a video about the GKTech suspension that he mentioned. one of the coolest aftermarket upgrades have seen the whole lifetime.
Came across a real unicorn from a guy who had no idea what he had bought it for 2100 resold it for 6700 with nothing done to it besides and VLSD and a lot of smiles behind the wheel. Still have a stock TT 300zx 3rd owner in unicorn condition.. love the preserved pieces, hate the missiles stop tearing these cars apart kids, they’re worth more original 🤝
KA>SR. In Australia, the Navara DX ute was the only vehicle we got with the KA24DE. They're now hot property as the extra capacity and better head design, not to mention the ease of fitting them in old datsun's has made them very desirable.
damn Ryan is quite the wheelman
My dream car and its just getting farther and farther away from my grasp everyday.
Nice 👍
状態の良い240SXでびっくり!
The best feeling is drifting a stock car 😄✌
I got a bone stalk 240 as well with the ka24 engine
Hag finally worth watching
I'm going to do drifting when I'm 20 yrs I love drift cars
I had the exact same one!!! So awesome!! Bought it mint stock, sold it mint stock!!
ayyy raceway park my local track
Best car ever made
Ugh that 240 had to be like twelve grand lol I bought a 93 se hatch in 07 for 3k and it was mint, still kicking myself for that. I still cannot believe how expensive these and other 90's cars have gotten. End minor rant. Love this show Hagerty keep it up.
We used them as company cars!
What?! Company cars? That's nuts!
@@leftright6054 my sales staff loved it. And it was very reliable car. With the hatch back even very practical
Englishtown baby!!!
One of the best spots!
In my dads garage sits his white 1993 SE coupe with A/C, hud, sunroof, 5 speed 100% stock, straight body with a busted water pump. I need to get fixed now after sitting for 10 years.
Hell yes hagerty!
I had two of these. A 91 and a 92. The 92 was in an accident, rust free but automatic. Just recently sold it to my friend since he’s wanted a 240sx forever. Now I only have my 91. It was from the original family who bought it brand new and used it as a daily driver up until around 2018. All stock, basically rust free (from NJ so it has one little spot of rust on the drivers rear arch at the bottom,) uncracked dash, and a 5 speed. Odometer stopped working around 268k and original family said it has approximately 300k on it from all the highway driving. It runs smooth and will still keep up with modern cars on the twisty roads of Upstate NY. It’s currently in my garage for the winter, but it’ll be back out this summer. Oh and here’s the best part, I paid $1800 for it! If you’re around Upstate NY, send me a message on Instagram @nekos_garage and we can go for a drive! You can also message me if you have any questions about my car. Stay safe everyone.
we ignoring that flat palm to window door closing? sheeeeeesssshh
That’s how mine looked when I got it but it was a bit rough 😂 same color and everything.
Interesting. There's a stock 1992 240SX hatchback sitting in my garage. I'm the original owner. It's my daily driver. Completely unmodified. 241k miles on it. Still runs like a champ.
God mine from an older guy a few cities over only had two owners with oil change receipts from a dealership in the glove box, drove it back home too 120 miles
Hey I just found a unicorn at a police auction for $800. Everything works awesome. How much can we get for that? It's totally original virtually OEM. Down to the relays and fuses.
20 years ago i had one of these but with 1,8 turbo engine!..it was easy to swap the turbo to a bigger one and use a modifed chip and thats it! maybe a bigger fuel pump and u had 230hp in this car.
its was a beast! runs easy 250 kmh.
it was just fun to drive....and they were cheap in this time, cause no one wants one of these!
today, you never find one of these cars....for a good one u sell easy more than 10k $
It is the Subaru dude! sweet
Been a while :)
