  • What if you run into a large object and take on water rapidly? Engage your Crash Pump! This episode in the series on our 1988 Hatteras 65C sport fishing yacht, covers the rebuilding and re-install of the factory provided Crash Pump. It is a Jabsco 18330 model which can pump 78.5Gpm @ 1750Rpm. Since the Detroit diesel engines on our yacht can run up to 2500Rpm unloaded, this pump could potentially move up to 112Gpm!
No matter what vessel you own or spend time on, always consider the "what ifs" for those times you venture offshore. Help may not be available and having a high output "Crash Pump" can save your vessel and your bacon. You can purchase an efficient DC high volume crash pump, but I definitely suggest you do Not rely on a pump using AC power; in the event of high water in the vessel AC power and the Gensets may fail or be dangerous to operate.
This is a long video and there is a Ton of content about Jabsco and other general brand raw water pump service and maintenance. Please take the time to review it all, and if you find something we have missed, let us know! This is about Safe Boating for all of us. If we don't take care of each other, who will?
As always, we appreciate your time to check out the video and welcome your questions and comments. Your subscription and likes on our videos help us to know to keep them coming.
    Fair winds and following seas!

it would be awesome if you would do some more off shore fishing videos , like at the rigs,, maybe hire a captain for the day so you can fish

Hello there. I always take a backup capt along with me, and we do make trips, but have not been as good about documenting them. But we are working on that, so expect to see more in the future!

One question for you Capt. What will override the vacuum switch to engage the clutch for the initial start without manually holding it until it has started pumping? Great video and so good to see you and your first mate doing the work yourselves rather then opening your wallet for someone who wouldn't take the time to do it as well as you do.

There is a bypass position on the switch, but Jabsco sternly advises not running the pump dry longer than ten seconds. The switch needs to be held about 2-3 seconds to lock in - it must only be set for a few inches of vacuum so it's pretty user friendly.

Thank you. We hope that our videos inspire others to try to do their own work too. Anyone can learn, we did. 🙂
