I kind of 'hybrid' time track in my vertical weekly. I plug in my known appts; but then I 'log as I go' and this also helps tremendously with journaling and reflecting back on the day [especially when I'm catching up on 2-3 days of journaling pages]. My ADHD means my working memory isn't always there; and it's SUCH a relief to know I have documented the main parts of my day with a few small details here and there. 🖤

I just use google calendar since I have multiple emails that get weekly meetings - and for appts and things that get planned several weeks/months out. I reference my calendar weekly, and daily because changes do happen - but that's why I don't 'physically' log in until things happen in real time. Saves me a lot of trouble, and lets the daily vertical tracking be more of a reflection/observation of the day vs. planning ahead

Vertical weekly planning is legit changing my life. I currently draw my own spreads so i have a separate spread with the vertical weekly setup but also a ToDo/Priorities/Week at a glance kind of view where i can brain dump all my stuff before i do actual daily planning on the weekly vertical.
I'm still playing with it, which is why I'm drawing it myself to see what works - I'm working out what time blocks to use, but this video is giving me new ideas for the to do list options especially which are great.
My work is basically all meetings, so finding and protecting time for Actual Work can be hard - i have to do this in my Outlook calendar as well of course, but writing stuff down is important for the brain and this type of layout is just so great. I'm a total convert. Not ready to actually buy a planner yet, but if i find one with all the features i need (when I work out what those features are!) I will spend the moolah 😂

I love vertical weeklies. With ADHD it helps me to see things chronologically from top to bottom. And if I don’t use a weekly I’m more likely to totally forget about something coming up because I haven’t checked the next day. Ugh! Happened 2 days in row a couple of weeks ago,
    Thanks for your encouragement.

It's my first time using a vertical weekly and I'm using it to time block meetings. It helps me visualize if the day is packed with meetings so I know when to do certain tasks. I never get stuff done when there's a bajillion meetings that day. Knowing how open my work schedule is helps me focus on stuff I need to get done.

As a shift worker (rotating nights-evenings-days), I LOVE time tracking because my sleep schedule is always so messed up and it's nice to keep track of sleep / work / tasks getting done in between - especially when I colour code it (eg: if yellow = "fun", a quick glance at the past few weeks show I need to set aside some time ASAP if there isn't any yellow)

I felt seen by that intro 😂 (I already preordered a Wonderland222 and 3 Sterling Ink Common Planners for 2024!) I use my B6 Common Planner's vertical weekly mostly for meal planning, while I do rough time-tracking for my day job in a Wonderland222 and memory keeping in my Hobonichi Cousin. The vertical weekly is so versatile!

I’ve ALWAYS been a planner nerd since H.S but more when I was in undergrad & grad. I use to be horizontal. Now as a professor & mother I’m strictly Vertical!!! It’s my jam! I have fallen hard for the Jibun Techo since ‘22. I do mainly a tasks/to do list & also appointments. But when I’m off for a month Dec - Jan & summer I don’t have many classes I use it for memory keeping.
    This was great!!! Thank you!!❤❤❤

I also do a vertical weekly spread. I'm a teacher and I have different classes everyday and I sometimes need to move them around. I need the whole week on two pages together and I just find a vertical spread more transparent because I can easily compare how "loaded" each day is. I also don't like writing to-do lists inbetween the meetings, that's very confusing to me. Time blocking and time tracking are very helpful to me and they are very easy to do on a vertical spread - love it too!

Ì have not purchased my weekly planner for 2024 because I make my own, apparently I am picky! 😂 I use my vertical weekly to keep track of the following: # hours of sleep, IF, work (I am at 10 hour/day, trying to go down to 9 hrs/day) by highlighting the time, different colors, personal appointment, three most important tasks. I love watching how you plan as it opens my mind to other ways of planning.

  • @hindenburg2006

This is precisely WHY I haven’t bought a vertical!!! I already do all of these… but in horizontals😂 There’s never enough space in the verticals for my style of note-taking/tracking…or there’s too much at the wrong time (there is NOTHING I’m writing in a 5 or 6am slot🙄)

    A5 Rings Planner Here:
I'm happy I found your channel, because I find myself leaning in a practical way towards a Vertical WO2P Layout and even weirder I like the month at a glance as a dated list 😧.
    I mean, WHO AM I?
Is this really how my brain works?😢😂😏
I've found that discovering my planning style is intuitive and more about learning about what is out there and if it serves me in the way of efficiency/achieving goals forming or breaking habits.
How you plan is how you think and that is a glimpse at who you are and aspire to be.

I divided a Happy Planner vertical weekly into 5 blocks each. 1. Apptmnts & health/exercise 2. Cleaning schedule 3. Blank for notes & ideas. 4. AM must dos 5. PM must dos (Meds, DW/Sink) 4&5 are mostly the same, with some weekly repeats like my laundry Sun PM & Mon Fold & Put Away. I also use a Franklin planner to keep track of what I eat, miles traveled, bills paid, etc (a day on 2 pages ). I also track steps & distance, sleep times, food eaten. Vertical is my plan for the week, Day on 2 pages travels with me for recording what actual happens including habit trackers.

  • @WahjoeGunawan
    @WahjoeGunawan Před 3 měsíci

I'm using method 3: To Do List for my weekly vertical format. However I make some adjustment. I split it into 5 horizontal section. Section 1 : To do list with different highlights. Different highlights are for priority A B C. Section 2 : All appointments, what happens in a day. Section 3 : My private teaching schedule. Section 4 : Meals records. Section 5: Daily Spending and weekly reviews. On the empty side Left I put all my weekly target. And on the top I put my daily blood sugar measurement result. Btw I am using Franklin Planner 7 Habits Japanese Slim Edition. There are many pages left for monthly index, master task lists target & reviews, weekly business & personal goals, tasks and reviews, and notes. Try it. Business side I am using for my social media planner target, personal side is using for learning process what I have to study during the week.

I'm a combo of stuff. I do my tasks - all of them, big, medium, small - in Google Keep. Priorities go at the top of each day in the planner's vertical spread. I schedule appointments and meetings, track certain things (but tike block in my Google calendar), then sometimes do high-level memory keeping - especially on weeks when I don't get to the daily pages.

Ive found if im going to use a vertical weekly its always going in my google calendar so i can get reminders for the appts i have scheduled there and can set certain events to repeat every week or 2. Since im a student and do shift work most of the things i put in there are reoccurring, and then my planner is the horizontal with memo so i can keep track of what assignments are due on what days bc that changes daily depending on how fast i get things done. I love that google calendar has different colors you can make stuff, and i can have separate calendars to look at just classes, just work, etc. And i can have them all on there at the same time

I use a vertical weekly planner. I always put in appointments and other day- or date specific things. Also work hours and where I work (I have 2 jobs), my kids activities, if I go somewhere and what I/we did, If I go on a date, make important phonecalls or make big purchases. I also budget in my planner. I also carry a little journal/notebook to write down the take aways from that phonecall or meeting, or questions/answers for/from the doctors appointment, to do lists of non date specific things that otherwise will clutter up my planner, and grocery lists or whatever brain dump I need to do. Edit: I need a dated planner because I like to plan the entire year in advance, like free days from school, school holidays, anniversaries, reoccurring events, monthly budget items, deadlines that I know in advance, reminders etc. I.e. the big/important things that I know about in advance.

Thanks for sharing, i learnt some things that will be useful for 2024. Personally I do a hyrbid.
Im a teacher so meetings and lessons go into the specific slot by scheduling.
I also timeblock the space i need to do deep work because there are always pple wanting to talk so it has become necessary to block out time for myself/deep work.
I also log things that I dont plan ahead very well, like sleep, meals and commute times just to get a sense of how much time im spending on those.
I use the leftmost column as a task dump area and i will slot it in on a daily basis. But to further help myself slot tasks in on a timely basis, i also add the task on deadline. So if i have something that just came in and needs go be done by Wednesday, i dump it on the left column and i also add it to wednesday end of the day with a check box. So i can choose to do it monday tuesday or Wednesday but if by Wednesday its not done i know i need to work later to get it cleared.
I do meals log also but im a flexitarian so i note my meals that are vegetarian using a highlighter.
Thanks for sharing everyone, im excited about 2024 and i just ordered for myself a Mossery planner with vertical weekly. Let me know what you think!

I never used to like vertical weekly planners until a few months ago when I bought one for my standard TN, just to experiment. Omg, why didn't I buy one all along?? 😮 FYI Midori has the most beautiful 2024 vertical/monthly planner! I just bought one from Jetpens and it's fabulous!!

I think I need the health log to track when I wake up in the middle of the night to empty and/or change my colostomy bag due to accidents. If I drink any fluids the bag fills up and MUST be emptied immediately no matter how tired I am. Currently I have a planner I created on my computer for myself based on others I've seen here on CZcams.

I use my vertical weekly to brain dump all the things: to-do lists, appointments, reminders, deadlines. I don’t highlight to-do list stuff, but everything else gets highlighted with whatever color highlighter I grab from the top of the pile. I reserve the bottom few rows to track a very strict productivity index that my work has (I’m a lawyer for the government), and I note the day of the fiscal month above those rows. My weekly pages aren’t pretty, but TBH, I don’t care. I make things pretty and organized in my daily pages, which is where I batch my tasks and figure out when it’s the best time in the day to complete them.

I keep a Happy Planner going with a dashboard for my everyday things, and then I adapt the vertical layout for my health tracking.
Their vertical layout has three equal parts horizontally across all days. I add lines to create more horizontal sections and label them in the sidebar. The first section is subdivided into a smaller top section for any blood pressure readings with the pulse and time noted as well(since the machine gives that data why lose it). The larger subsection is for the day’s sign and symptoms (I have emergent things that we are figuring out, so weird stuff goes in there).
The middle section is mostly a meals and snacks tracker and then a micro subsection for any prn medications that day. PRN means as per required need/ as desired need.
The third section is evenly divided into two sections. One is for any PT or other movements done that day. The other is for my creativity and mental health tracking. Before I got diagnosed with ADHD, I had noticed that I was able to have good mental health if I was creating something every day or at least not skipping more than three days in a row. Didn’t know why. Now I figure it was a dopamine deprivation thing on the fourth day that invoked a depression spiral, at least that seems to be the pattern for me.
Then in the bottom border of the pages (where they occasionally have quotes or sentiments), I put the times I go to bed and wake up with a value for the number of hours of sleep that I’ve had in the night before next to the wake up time.
If we could have pictures added, it would save a ton of typing time just now. Ah well.

Lol, well, I use printables in a Day-timer desk size binder...my weeklies are both horizontal and vertical...lol..that is, the days are laid out horizontally but the timeline on the right side of the rectangle is from 8 to 5 vertically, like a number of Day-timer and Franklin Covey inserts are, except that my weekend days are split horizontally across the last large rectangle instead of vertically stacked so that I get a full 8-5 on both of them instead of that annoying little 8-12 that came with some I used to buy from the previously mentioned companies...I do stuff all day on weekends, not just the morning! (Oh yeah and printables are the bomb for those unexpected times when, say, your teen's cat stress pees during a thunderstorm on your planner---this happened yesterday during Tropical Storm Hilary here in Los Angeles. OMG, if I'd had a bound planner or purchased printed inserts, I'd be sunk. At least with printables, I was able to salvage some and reprint others....tedious but like I said, I didn't have to spend more $$ to get back on track.)

I'm currently using TUL horizontal inserts. I'm dividing each box in half for work and personal. These inserts have a combined Saturday/Sunday, so dividing that last box in half gives me a personal box for each day. But my method, on these inserts, would only work for someone with a Mon-Fri job.

Can you recommend a weekly planner that I can use for my Personal and business. I time block morning and afternoons out for appointments. We do home inspections, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I need one that would work where I could see my week at a glance and tell where I have an opening to place someone. Color blocks work great but I need the space in order to do a m and pm time segments. Is there any weekly planners that have separate sections for am and pm? That would be perfect for me.

Am I the only person that can’t actually stand vertical weeklies? 😳 The Cousin, Common Planner - it’s actually been pretty difficult being able to use these because the vertical weekly just doesn’t work for me. I end up marking the top off for my events/appointments, the weekend as an Alistair method task list, and the rest stay blank.

which planner do you like for vertical weekly planning? You used hobinichi in this video, right? Do you like the thin paper? It seems thin, but I can't tell. Looking for a vertical option this year. Taking all recommendations.

    • @RachelleinTheory
      @RachelleinTheory  Před 11 měsíci

I have used Hobonichi in the past, and I currently use the Common Planner. I also have set up my own vertical weekly spreads in blank notebooks. I'm sure someone has created a good breakdown comparing vertical weekly planners, but I know people like Take a Note, Hibino (I think its a vertical weekly), Wonderland 222 (also tried and I like their options especially for people who need/want more tracking), Jibun techo, etc.
Personally I do like the thin paper! I don't put it through too much just bc it's not my style, but there are lots of creators who pack their Hobonichis with washi, stickers, photos, ephemera, water color, fountain pens, and other bits and bobs and the great thing about Hobonichi is that both the paper and the binding holds up really well to the stress.

You could always convert it to vertical by covering the days on the left with white-out or a sticker and drawing in vertical lines - it’s work but will save you money on a new planner and give you the opportunity to try both vertical and horizontal layouts. I am currently using horizontal and divided the page in half - write my events on the left and tasks on the right. I have several jobs so assign different colours to each job and a different colour for hospital appointment and another for fun/social. Hope this a little helpful and not too complicated 🤞🏽.
I found this video so helpful as will be using different planners for health & journaling (using a Hobonichi Avec 2023 I got cheap - will change dates) and an undated Sterling Ink for work/common planner - going to try a B6 vertical for the first time. 🤞🏽
