    Lukas Graham - 7 years (Letras/Lyrics)
    ---
Once, I was seven years old, my mama told me
"Go make yourself some friends, or you'll be lonely"
Once, I was seven years old
It was a big-big world, but we thought we were bigger
Pushing each other to the limits, we were learning quicker
By 11, smoking herb and drinking burning liquor
Never rich, so we were out to make that steady figure
Once, I was 11 years old, my daddy told me
"Go get yourself a wife, or you'll be lonely"
Once, I was 11 years old
I always had that dream like my daddy before me
So I started writing songs, I started writing stories
Something about the glory just always seemed to bore me
'Cause only those I really love will ever really know me
Once, I was 20 years old, my story got told
Before the morning sun, when life was lonely
Once, I was 20 years old
    (Lukas Graham!)
I only see my goals, I don't believe in failure
'Cause I know the smallest voices, they can make it major
I got my boys with me, at least those in favor
And if we don't meet before I leave, I hope I'll see you later
Once, I was 20 years old, my story got told
I was writing 'bout everything, I saw before me
Once, I was 20 years old
Soon, we'll be 30 years old, our songs have been sold
We've traveled around the world, and we're still roaming
Soon, we'll be 30 years old
I'm still learning about life, my woman brought children for me
So I can sing them all my songs, and I can tell them stories
Most of my boys are with me, some are still out seeking glory
And some I had to leave behind, my brother, I'm still sorry
Soon, I'll be 60 years old, my daddy got 61
Remember life and then your life becomes a better one
I made the man so happy when I wrote a letter once
I hope my children come and visit, once or twice a month
Soon, I'll be 60 years old, will I think the world is cold?
Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me?
Soon, I'll be 60 years old
Soon, I'll be 60 years old, will I think the world is cold?
Or will I have a lot of children who can hold me?
Soon, I'll be 60 years old
Once, I was seven years old, my mama told me
"Go make yourself some friends, or you'll be lonely"
Once, I was seven years old
Once, I was seven years old

I do like this song. However, it's full of themes that sadly don't surprise me. The writer seems to think only a man can teach children, can't seem to conceive of a child that didn't grow up without a father, and sees a woman's purpose as mostly being a goal for you to 'get' so she can pop out children for you.

Hello I don't really understand how you got to this conclusion, both his parents told him to get things (friends and a wife) I didn't see him valuing one over the other. Except he speaks of his farther as he will become one soon.

@@samwest8962 By listening to the lyrics and knowing the society in which they were written. Again, a wife is stated to be something to 'get' like a possesion, and is never mentioned again, besides as a way to provide children that will keep his life warm, and a father is stated to be the one most likely to pass on teachings, as if women can't do so. Even in seemingly innocuous lyrics, you can observe underlying currents of misogyny, if you are aware that most of society thinks that way.

I think your projecting a little with this one. He didn't state who is most likely to do anything. Maybe we both just have different viewpoints in life.

@@samwest8962 As a scientist, I do not project. I'm observing the evidence. It's a song where the only thing a woman is mentioned as is something to provide children to keep him warm. That's literally the lyric. There are no viewpoints when it comes to empirical proof. You don't have to project your thoughts when someone else's thoughts are clear.

@@companylovesmisery1463 so if a song mentions they got married and nothing else it a misogynistic statement on societies views of women? And if a woman sang this about her wife, what would it be then?

(In answer to the last reponse on my comment) Yes, that's my whole point. If you LOOK for hate you'll find it. If you are trained by society, as many women sadly are, into subconsciously thinking there is nothing wrong with lyrics that subtly hint at the prevailing attitude towards women, if you don't care about what is wrong with society and don't look for what needs to be corrected, then of course you're not going to see anything wrong.

Every woman Iv spoken about this must be tainted by society then because none of them see a problem in this. I care more about the part where a 11 year old drinks and smokes

@@samwest8962 As I said... that's the point. Nobody thinks there's anything wrong because two thousand years of religious thought about the position of women is the dominant mindset.
