- Today I'm watching the iconic Yakuza: Like A Dragon (Ryu Ga Gotoku) live action movie from 2007. I'm a HUGE fan of RGG's Yakuza series and I had to check this movie out. Let's just say, this didn't disappoint. Enjoy my movie commentary!

Girl you had looking for this. I just had found whole movie here on CZcams it was A LOT😂😂 . The guy playing Kiryu is FINE🥵.
There is a movie called Like a Dragon Prologue which covered childhood days of Kiryu and Nishiki up until before Kiryu went out of the 10 year imprisonment in 2005. It's also somewhere in CZcams.
I will look forward for your reaction video for that. Lol. Though that one is less cringe than this. Hehe. No Yakuza 0 events unfortunately since it was made 2007 as a promotion also for Yakuza 1 since it has a trailer of the game at the end of the movie.

Fun fact, the actor for Majima here is named Goro Kishitani. Aside from his first name being the same as Majima's, if you recall the character Nishitani from Yakuza 0 (The crazy guy with thr knife that Majima fought in Cabaret Grand) was somewhat based off of Kishitani's version of Majima here.
In fact, the file names for Nishitani's character models in the game are even named Kishitani instead of Nishitani. This implies that his name was going to be a direct reference to the actor himself before they changed it for some reason.
That's pretty cool!
So Majima inspired Majima to become Majima 🤯
Two things about this movie
-If you compare the original Majima and movie Majima you can see that he wears the patch in the wrong eye, the reason is because the actor couldn't see well from that eye because of an accident so they change it
-The actor who made Jingu in this movie is none other than Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator of the Yakuza series

Fun fact: One of the baklava robbers is played by Kenichi Endo. Out of all the people involved in the movie, he would be the only one to reappear in the franchise as Junji Sugiuchi (Tanimura's evil mentor) in Yakuza 4. Funny that he started off in this movie as a comic relief character

One of the cops(the leader of the robbery investigation)is played by the VA of Takasugi(from Y5).

You gotta remember, since this movie came out in 2007, it was much closer to what Yakuza 1 portrayed on the PS2. So the bulk of Nishiki's backstory didn't come out until both Yakuza 0 and the additional backstory added to Yakuza Kiwami much later. So even the PS2 version of Yakuza had a pretty weak telling of the relationship between Nishiki and Kiryu. Doesn't really make the movie a lot better of course, haha, but it does kinda explain why suddenly Nishiki just sorta pops up with extremely little explanation, because the games hadn't told that story about him yet, either.
Here's something that not many people know about. There's a second Yakuza Movie that was released in 2006. Honestly, I wish more people acknowledged it. It's like 40 minutes long and it shows the backstory. Just wanted to say this. I wish that they used that Movie for lots of stuff.
This felt like watching an 80s action movie which was awesome. So much craziness

the shotgun fight scene is funny with zero context.
They trying to shot each other but on Kiryu and Majima shotgun, they realized there's no shotgun shells anymore or it's jammed and they said "fuck this, let's go by the fist"
The guy at the bar during the shot gun fight you say looks evil is actually a famous bar tender in Japan and is known as the best bar tender in the country. I was very surprised seeing a cameo from him
Finished the video. Another thing I'd like to mention, the guy portraying Jingu in this movie? That's Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator of the Yakuza series. Man really decided to play Jingu in the movie and then had himself get shot dead anticlimactically with less than 5 minutes of screentime in total 😆
Honestly the funniest thing, he didn't even get to land the heli and get out 😂
When it comes to video game movie standards, especially for the time, this is honestly really good.
Wife and I just took a break to watch this movie this morning (for the first time) and had near the same reaction. I just couldn't get the "so bad its good" fan service out of my blood stream so I went looking for reaction videos and your laughing on this is just the icing on the cake! Hahah, thank you!

I saw this movie when it came out on DVD in Japan. I got some very dodgy fan subs so I could watch it. It's such a fever dream sometimes. It's basically Takashi Miike having maximum fun making a movie while not really caring whether it would appeal to anybody other than himself and diehard Yakuza fans. Hah.
The director of the live action film is actually a very critically acclaimed director for making surrealist/disturbing/gory black comedy films.He is also well known for...shitty live action films for games like Ace Attorney and Jojo.Quentin Tarantino and Park Chan Wook are a few famous directors that are fans of his movies.The actor who played Kaoru's father and Awano also appeared in his films
So he is the Japanese Uwe Boll.

Believe it or not, but they do have a TV show but it's based on the Kurohyou games. Unfortunately there's no official translation for it
For those of you wondering, the couple throughout the movie are suppose to be Akimoto and Mizuki. Yeah, the same Akimoto and Mizuki From Yakuza 2, 3 and Ishin. Seems like no matter what game, time period or even in a separate universe (aka the movie) they always get into trouble no matter what.

Exactly. When you're playing as kiryu, and you shoot someone... They're only dead in the fight. Not to mention the fact that they do actually bleed. But outside of the fight, either they're fine and are just defeated or are just, like HEAVILY defeated - therefore they also look so knocked TF out, and then they just despawn.

Good point about it not explaining much, but movie and anime adaptations in Japan are often seen kinda supplementary to the source material. Adaptations in Hollywood try to kinda replace the source material, so they try to explain everything and often struggle and do a bad job condensing everything. But it's pretty common for Japanese adaptations to to just throw you in the deep end and assume that you are a super fan of everything else about the series. :D

also wasn't this released in 2007? That would mean that only Y1 and Y2 were released and by that point Nishiki was essential just this bad guy who supposedly had some relations to Kiryu which would only be detailed when Y0 released 7 years later

I personally enjoyed it, we all know that Haruka is a bad ass, it shows in the games that she isnt afraid of anything, but her threatening Majima that was intense. Majima and Kiryu-Chans character they were awesome, Majima definitely had the manorisim, to the movie. Kiryu is Kiryu-Chan, he is the man. I was shocked when i found out the Korean guy was in the horror movie Train To Busan and one of the characters in Squid Games.
This movie was so chaotic but honestly it seems so on brand anyway lol

@@AGirlAndAReaction there is two parts translated to English, it’s just they are on two separate channels, still done by the same guy, although the second part they supervised with the subtitles, whilst the guy who uploaded part 2 did the subtitles.
