- This series initially began as a 40 min video, but as I finished my research I realised I had over an hours worth of content here... at least... so instead of torturing you guys with a dragon ball version of the sound of music, I decided to break it into a series of videos...

to clear up a few things...
I'm not suggesting that roshi was stronger than Raditz when goku fought him at the beginning of Dragon Ball Z. by the time dragon ball super rolls around, 20 years has past since raditz. goku has grown stronger and so to fight against freeza's army I'm suggesting that Roshi trained during those 20 years somewhat. not that he could defeat Raditz at the beginning of Z.

Master Roshi's power seemed inconsistent. He destroyed an entire moon with a single Kamehameha: No one else in the original Dragon Ball displayed that level of destructive power. Yet he said he didn't stand a chance against King Piccolo, who at max power could only destroy Central City with an Explosive Demon Wave.
Spoiler: Even more inconsistent he is now fighting toe to toe with JIREN...
This may surprise you, but Toriyama isn't a very good author.

Well, keep in mind that was Roshi at full power. His peak, his max power form and his kamehameha, Roshi even made the comment that he had no energy left after the blast and was reduced to fists and feet. I think Roshi meant he could not beat King Piccolo, as it took some time to charge up his full power Kamehameha, which he would not get against the King. Now, you could argue that Goku could of distracted King Piccolo so Roshi could charge, but in the event that Roshi misses, what ever he hits is turned into a giant crater and Roshi will not have any energy left to fight.
Roshi opted for the Evil Containment Wave, rather than his full power Kamehameha, probably because it was less destructive (so he wouldn’t possibly kill thousands and maybe even millions of people) and easier to sneak in (as a really buff Roshi with a blue ball of light in his hands would of let King Piccolo know what was going on).
Of course, one can’t over look that Toriyama isn’t exactly the best when it comes to consistency or logic
Also, note that at the time, King Piccolo, while not showing feats of specific destructive power, had the strength to kill Shenron - quite possibly the strongest thing in the show up to that point - with a single Evil Cannon. And, there are other statements that support the fact that King Piccolo was only using that power as an act or a show of a small amount of his power, not actually trying to destroy anything (such as King Piccolo saying that he could wipe out one of the 43 sectors of Earth in the blink of an eye.)

Well you need to remember that earthling martial artists are capable of hiding their power levels so it's possible that roshi being 300+ years old would naturally be able to suppress his power level to a great degree.

Ik this is around the golden freeza arc but still, i cannot believe that roshi would be weaker than base form sayian saga goku vs vegeta. krillin got a lot stronger in dbs for no reason, so did roshi. They only left my man Tenshihan out
power levels in DB are just 100% inconsistent...there is no point in making them up

Master Roshi is the most underrated character in DBZ.
I love what's happening in the manga, not because it makes sense, because it doesn't make any damn sense at all, but rather because of the hysteria and meltdowns its causing. I think Toyotaro is just flipping the fan base the middle finger on purpose. It'd be even funnier though if this was a prank intended to rile people up and when its released there's no such thing that happens.

Mark, Please don't get discouraged when diving into this topic. This was very detailed and I enjoyed it and I also know there is going to probably be lots of people going against this, getting angry, saying you know nothing about the series, etc. It seems to happen a lot with this type of thing, bit just keep doing them and don't let anyone block your path on these.

Just wanted to add my thoughts that power levels aren't linear. Its likely you've also come across the atomic bomb theory.
Where if you divide Vegeta's power level when he's capable of blowing up the earth by the level of an average human, it makes the average human capable of ridiculous city levelling force. Even at a power level of 5.
However you've done a fantastic job and this is a great series for comparing their strength in imaginary battles :)
Nonono. In Saiyan saga (Nappa and Vegeta), Nappa was quite surprised at Gohan reaching ~2800 when he was focusing for his ki blast. (and remember, Raditz at 1200 was COMPLETELY out of Roshi's league, even surpassing Goku and Piccolo (~450 each). Now, assuming Roshi didni't get all that much stronger between then and now (unlike other warriors, he didn't go to Kami's lookout to receive elite training), there is absolutely no way Roshi is at ~3800 (otherwise, he would have beaten Raditz the moment he arrived at Roshi's island).
Which means, that average Freeza mooks are not ~1500. The two guys Krillin and Gohan took out during Namak must have been one of the stronger mooks (although not quite elite mooks like Dodoria).

As I have always said: The power levels the scouter displayed were only a number calculating the maximum physical prowress of a live being (That's why it displayed a greater power level for Piccolo and Goku when they took of their weighted clothes, they could move more freely). Skills and other variables are simply out of its scope.
I think the only time we could see that clearly were when Goku was fighting Freezer and kind of giving him some trouble even with a power waaaaaay below his, basically due to his martial arts being better and him being able to sense energy, while Freezer depended on instinct and sight. I can't remember that fight clearly, though.

Roshi Blew up the MOOOON in the first world tournament, Toriyama never cared about power levels or the implications of the 'feats' his characters perform, so neither should we. He just wanted to write a fun story, and everybody else took it so seriously

i think Roshi will surprise us in the Universe Survival Arc. Like, he's going to fight someone and they try to stop him, and he takes off his glasses, looks back and say "Ah you youngsters don't know.... i never stopped training", And then we find out that while everyone else started slacking off, he kept using everything he teaches to train to insane levels!

Probably out of principle. Bukujustsu (dragonball flying) was a signature Crane Hermit technique. Roshi's probably not down to use it because it represents a philosophy of martial arts he despises so much. At the same time he doesn't want his students to be bound to him and all his philosophies, which is probably why he's fine with everyone else using it.
He did learn it, and he knows it. He used it in resurrection F. He just doesn’t use it, as he thinks its cheap.

Yeah I don't buy it. The writers just fucked up the power scale because they care about it way less than we do. Roshi should've been destroyed by a single Freeza soldier, with ease.

It just makes no sense, doesn't matter how you look at it. Because he retired after the 22nd tournament. He stopped training. So even if they say "he got stronger afterwards", it will be a very bullshit reason because it betrays his whole character arc in DB.
DB Franchise Power Scaling:
Dragonball --- Pretty good, with a few exceptions.
Dragonball Z --- Passable (once you get past the ridiculous rate of improvement)
Dragonball Super --- Don't even bother, it's like they consciously decided to make as little sense as possible.
I don't think that full power estimate is accurate. If he had a power that high, he could've helped in the fight with raditz (which had a power level of around 1500).

CJGamingTV gg but there's no sign at all that master roshi continued training over the years. In fact, in the latest dragon ball super episodes, he stated that he doesnt train at all for a really long time. I'd say he's even weaker than what he was 20 years ago.
Ciro Nascimento no. 20 years ago he wouldn't be able to even land a hit on a lower level Frieza Force fighter in his max level (buff) form. now Roshi could easily kill a whole bunch of highly trained Frieza Force fighters. he had to have boosted at least a little bit. each Frieza Force fighter during RoF was about 10,000 and he was able to defeat a whole bunch of them. Roshi has at least hit first form Frieza level if not final form Frieza level. plus there are people, like Frieza, who don't need to train and just naturally grow stronger.
but anyway, Master Roshi is way stronger than he was before.
Roshi's training was environmental he was living with 18 for at least some of the seven years after cell, his trying to perv on her and her completely justified attempt at murder him ended up making him stronger, the basically justification of why Tagoma was so strong but over a much longer time with much less results.
So.... anybody gonna talk about roshi being on the threshold of Ultra Instinct in the manga?

As stated MULTIPLE times: 1. Power levels are bullshit. 2. Toriyama forgets shit constantly (poor Launch) 3. Translations/dubs are sketchy (over 8000/9000). That being said, Roshi would be at the same power lvl he was at the start of DBZ, if not weaker. He hasn't trained in years nor has he been in a fight outside resurrection of F (which was horribly inconsistent) and the super remake of it (which was worse). End of story.
Yea, I stopped listening when he first mentioned Power Levels. If I was going to base stuff off of Toriyama interviews I would have to say Chichi is part saiyan because of the recessive gene for the saiyan tail she apparently has. Also Roshi has had a lot of off screen time so he could have trained, but that would only be an assumption. Using DBS to find the "power levels" is like using a compass surrounded by magnets to find the nearest bathroom.

Hybrid vigor. The liger & mule are good examples of recessive gene expression in hybrids. If saiyans tails are recessive than humans could have a gene that pairs with it and allows it to express or even OVER express.

Power levels only made sense during Saiyan/Frieza saga, until Frieza actually begins fight. After the battle against Frieza begins power levels become irrelevant (and no longer mentioned in the manga nor anime)

Lol, he said Golden Freiza's power level was one hundred quintillion. That's not a real number, at least that's not how you'd write that order of magnitude. He's fucking with his fan's and it's hilarious when we argue about them. Because someone, somewhere is trying to - internally - rationalize one-hundred quintillion, and they can't. Sure power levels are neato but still totally useless even when they can be applied more realistically case by case, like in the early parts of the Freiza saga. We are talking about trying to quantify, for no reason, the power levels of people who when they lose; become much stronger based on their racial traits. Every fight those numbers change, there is no actual reference point to even make a scale until the show ends and there are no more enemies kicking the shit out of saiyans giving them Zenkai's. First of all, Goku has lost several fights since Frieza saga.
The 'spoil the fights' was started by the creator.
Second, I don't think Akira Toyirama gave the power level for golden frieza. Some voice actor or movie producer guy said it.
Plus that 100 quintillion was made as a *pun*, since no one actually cared about making power levels at that time. It was a pun, not a number to confuse you.
He said Frieza is a nice guy, so his power level is naisu gai which is 100 quintillion.
Plus that is an extremely low power level for dbs Frieza. It's far from accurate. Its probably ss3 Gotenks to Buuhan range on considering scaling.
The power levels becoming higher after loosing is obvious. It happens in every anime/fiction series. It doesn't affect the efficiency of a fan calculated power level at all since you just have to find separate ones for each stage and then you're done. Free to use.
Either way, no one even cares or talks about power levels after Frieza saga in regular scaling, so what are you trying to prove?

For instance, Dbs BoG base form Goku is far more than (in terms of strength not power level) a duodecillion times stronger than dbz ss3 Goku.
In japanese it's naisu gai which is a pun on nice guy.

This video was pretty fun. But it's really easy to make mistakes when it comes to power levels. Banan and Sui have the official power level of LESS THAN 1,500 not equal to 1,500.
Gohan and Kuririn were able to EASILY defeat them with battle powers around 1,500. So at most, they'd be a little stronger than a Saibaman, perhaps around 1,300.
In any case amazing video, I' definitely looking forward to more :D
This is pretty cool, I look forward to seeing the others.
Not even taking into account the manga where the scaling really just goes nuts, Master Roshi was AMAZING in the tournament of power! At least for an old man with all the limitations he has. The guy got two team KOs, acting as the clean-up for Krillin to beat the bird and a set-up for Tien to take out the Preecho.
And then he solo'd three of Quitela's guys all on his own, even taking out the buff thunderbird who was much stronger than himself.
And the highlight of his performance has to be him fighting along Vegeta of all people to fight Magnetta and Frost.
That was awesome. Vegeta fighting alongside Roshi is something I never knew I wanted but I loved it when it happened. It was awesome how Roshi was able to get one over on Frost with his tiny kamehameha ball and let Vegeta out to unleash his rage.
