Honda just revealed plans for its upcoming product #roadmap including new EVs and technology. #hybrids are also getting a big improvement soon!
Approach to electrification targets:
Honda has not changed its belief that EVs are the most effective solution in the area of small mobility products such as motorcycles and automobiles, and Honda's electrification target to make EVs and FCEVs represent 100% of its global vehicle sales by 2040 remains unchanged. Honda must look ahead to the period of EV popularization and build a strong EV brand and a strong EV business foundation from a medium- to long-term perspective.
Structural reform of procurement and production operations:
Through the establishment of a vertically-integrated EV value chain with a central focus on batteries, as of 2030, Honda will reduce the cost of the battery to be procured in North America by more than 20% compared to the cost of current batteries.
Honda will establish a competitive business structure with an aim to reduce overall production cost by approximately 35%. Honda already has a positive outlook to secure enough batteries for the planned production of approximately 2 million EVs per year.
EV lineup strategy:
For the Honda 0 Series, a global EV series which will be the flagship series of Honda EVs, a total of seven models will be launched globally by 2030 including various models ranging from small to large size. As a part of electrification with the use of Honda Mobile Power Pack e: (MPP), Honda will introduce a micro-mobility product which will be equipped with 4 MPPs in Japan before the end of FY2026, enhancing the applications of MPPs.
Financial strategy:
Honda is planning to invest approximately 10 trillion yen in resources over the 10-year period through 2030, when the period of full-fledged popularization of EVs is expected to start. Honda will pursue both bold investments for future growth and shareholder returns.

I hate the trend of people needing to sit up higher to feel "safer" while now we have trucks with massive frontal blind zones. Hondas are pretty good with interior visibility too.
A lot of pickup trucks are very poorly designed for aerodynamics. The 2020 Ridgeline is more aerodynamic than the newer Ridgelines.
If you sit low to the ground in a sedan, imagine having a head on collision with a big truckđą
@@blackwhirlwind1245 thats cuz its too easy to buy a bigger vehicle in the US. The EPA footprint regulations set near impossible fuel economy standards for smaller cars with smaller engines, which enables the manufacturers to cheap out with higher profit margin less efficient trucks and SUVs
I agree ...I dont want an SUV. But, I think Honda is making a mistake by pushing sedans lower and lower - it makes them difficult to access if you're anywhere over 40 or have a family (where you have to duck into the back to secure little ones). Even the 10th gen Accord decreased hip point height, and I think that's a mistake if they want to continue sedans - which they need, despite comments otherwise. They dont need to be raised, but they do need to be usable for a wide variety of people. This is exactly why they keep getting longer and longer...
@@chrissetina1107 the Fit had great ingress/egress but wasn't lifted enough for Americans (especially boomers).
Iâm a Honda guy. I think that this is a huge mistake!! EV sales are dropping like a rock!! A Honda executive told me that there will be Honda Pilot Hybrid.
Any other hybrids planned
Yes, Iâm thinking that the next generation hybrid system will go into one of their large products because next generation Accord and Civic wouldnât be redesigned until the 2028 MY, but this comes out a year earlier. Odyssey is gonna be redesigned for the 2027 MY, so Iâm thinking itâll be able to go into their large products.
@@chezzyperson3339HR-V hybrid is coming next year.
You Americans think the world revolves around you. There IS a world outside the US that is steamrolling over your standard of living, education, technology and demand for EVsâ The US is stunted while the rest of the modern WORLD is racing right by your outdated infrastructure!!!
EVs sales are still growing, but not as rapidly as few years ago. So the EVs are slowing down, but still increasing regardless, Meanwhile, demands for hybrids have been increasing a lot lately.
Hybrids are cool... if they catch up to Toyota it would be nice. I don't see myself ever buying an EV though... ever, for any reason. If it gets where I can go 500 miles and have a 5 minute full recharge, then maybe...
With the advancement of technology those things will likely happen. In fact, a 700 miles plus EV is coming from Toyota and Lucid already produces a 500 mile range EV.
@@trumpisastump9382 500 range for how long? How many years does that last before the battery is at 80% left and its pulling 400 at best... then less and less? 30 minutes to get some charge back enough to go a while longer... the technology just isn't here yet. Its doubtful to be good enough in the next 10 years... 15? doubt it, but hopefully, but we need a lot better and cheaper battery tech. I am sure its currently great for people moving around town and in a city doing low mileage every day... even if overly expensive still.
What happened to the 2025 Civic Hybrid for America?
Its still coming rumor is 60 mpg. Superb Prius and Corolla competition.
@@Tigerex966I doubt that mpg. Hondaâs hybrids just arenât that efficient.
@@dforrest450360 Europe on cycle 52 usa I think same as camry less than a eawd prius.
Return of the Element?
Shame thereâs still no S2000 and NSX (affordable) successor.
I don't see any mention of the Ridgeline? Will it be around in 2-3 years?
So what happens to the cars that got Honda here? Or the new Prelude? Or even the S2000 that has been talked about?
The last thing honda needs are evs.đ€«đđ
I find it kind of funny how they did the whole E-AWD thing with the MDX and RLX Sport Hybrid like 5+ years ago and now they're coming back to it. If they just stuck to that powertrain and improved it, I think their models would be in a much better place in the market today.
Type S should have had it. The MDX Sport Hybrid only makes 20 less hp than tbe current type S but also gets like 50% better mpg. RLX Sport hybrid combined output is more than the TLX type S and it still gets better mpg too
@@ShaiyanHossain Yeah, the 3.5 + hybrid system would have been amazing for the Type S. But even if they offered a detuned version for the base MDX, a lot of people would have gotten it (I surely would have)
Makes you wonder, definitely me, who was in charge of projects at that time and why were they let go? Jon Ikeda, where's he now? Like who was fired when Acura decided to kill the Legend and longitudinal engine layout for the RL, then RLX? Acura is its own worst enemy.
@@Masterguy635 i was thinking along the lines of the 3.0 turbo and the hybrid at the same time, but that also could work lol
@@thejake8099 I believe the current mdx/tlx were deisgned when Acura was poising itself to use GM tech to go EV if not sooner than 2026, which could also be the reason for no hybrids anymore but their plans must havd changed in recent months after the split from GM and low EV demand
Current economy , EVs to the common WALMART shopper , EVs are not wanted, HYBRID & CHEAP SMALL CARS ARE â€
All I want from Honda is a Prelude Si with M/T. Perhaps based on the Integra Type S đ
Definitely excited about the 2 wheel stuff. I ride a 2020 Africa Twin DCT daily and love it. I live in a small town so an electric motorcycle intrigues me.
Iâm more of an analog guy. Simple is better when it comes to maintenance. Iâll take heavy and dependable over efficient and undependable every time. The sitting higher stuff for visibility is sacrificing the safety of a low center of gravity in itâs place. I do agree that visibility is great. You can make cars with better visibility, by building a more square cabin and glass and sacrificing the drag coefficient. Newer cars just have too much pillar obstruction and the rear end sits too high for mirror visibility.
Zero or Beyond Zero is the choice đ
or value become ZERO after you buy
First Toyota, then Nissan, then Honda. đ€© Looks good for these guys from now. I would like for Nissan and Honda to speed up development for their hybrids a bit though.
I donât know if youâve seen it, but Mitsubishi just revealed a product plan for the US, âMitsubishi Momentum 2030â.
I think itâs too small to make a video on though, but apparently theyâre going to bring the D:X concept to the US as a production car as a PHEV. Iâm not kidding. A PHEV off-road minivan is coming to the US.
More SUVs đŽ
In the North America EV roadmap, I think some of the models are probably Acura brand, because they donât need to mention specifically Acura, Acura is just a luxury brand of Honda, so itâs still part of Honda family. So all those EV SUVs you see on the roadmap arenât just Honda brand, some of them are probably Acura.
Cool
Like almost 40% of Hondaâs sales were sedans last year and choosing to wait all the way until 2030 after introducing 4 SUVs, interesting
I highly doubt it, more like 20% sedans, where do I see the sales?
2030 sedan is probably the $25-30K (in today's dollars) USD BEV.
A person on a Reddit forums said that a Honda employee at the Orange County auto show told them they would have a Hybrid Pilot out for the MMC. I think it will be a 2026 model year out next year.
Kirk, I think that the Hybrid system launching in 2026 will go into one of their large products because neither Civic, CR-V, HR-V or Accord will be redesigned for the 2027 MY. The new Odyssey will come in 2026 for the 2027 MY, so Iâm thinking thatâs what itâll go in.
New Odyssey is eons off. Another refresh coming this year I think.
@@KirkKreifelsRight. The refresh is coming for the 2025 MY and this refresh since itâs a small one will only last for two years and the new Odyssey will be a 2027 MY.
New Odyssey
Lots of us hate tall, tippy cars that make people sick in the mountains. I had one, a so called sport model. Never again. Looking forward to an electric version of my GTI.
I think the low to the ground low roof with thin battery vehicles may be in preparation for the next gen nsx and performance vehicles for acura and/or honda
Kirk, I was hoping the big news was the return of the Civic wagon. đ€đ€
That vacuum cleaner saloon vehicle is hideous, but maybe in person it will be better..lol
Even thought I just bought a used Honda Iâm not excited about any of this. Iâm glad theyâre bringing the Prelude back but I want to see more excitement from the Formula motor racing company.
EVs donât make sense. Hybrids are more sustainable
Go Honda!
If a civic mated with E-AWD, there would be a strong stance facing the Prius.
Iâd imagine the Element would be one, and a new Passport.
Itâs really confusing honestly, especially considering where Acura plays into this and Sony.
Another person said this already but itâs a shame Acura didnât keep their hybrid AWD system. The MDX and RLX were awesome for having that. I kind of wish you could get an RDX and MDX with that now.
I sell Acuraâs and we desperately need hybrids. Completely missed the market. Also need the ADX years ago. Completely missed the market.
Hopefully this BEV direction will save Acura.

The SUVs will differ in capability and style, like Element and CR-V back in the day.
Honda promises AWD hybrids that drive dynamically so likely going to be more fuel efficient and more fun.
Still prefer fuel efficient Acura Hybrids with SH-AWD but Acura likely to focus on ICEVs and BEVs for now.
Advancement of HEV models>
Honda's original two-motor hybrid-electric system, namely e:HEV system, as well as the HEV platforms will be renewed. After the renewal, the e:HEV system will be lighter and more efficient, and the platforms will also be more efficient and shared by more models, achieving both further improved fuel economy and a high-quality, exhilarating driving experience.
Honda will repurpose its EV development technologies to hybrid-electric models and adopt an electric all-wheel drive (e-AWD) system that leverages the motor installed in EV models. Compared to the conventional mechanical all-wheel drive system, the e-AWD system will increase maximum driving force output and enable more responsive and precise control on drive force distribution. Moreover, by applying cooperative control along with the Motion Management System, the e-AWD system will realize excellent driving performance while stabilizing vehicle behaviors, leading to the realization of both peace of mind and the fun of driving for the customers.
18:00 so does it mean next gen RDX is coming out with ICE and EV versions? I hope so, because RDX EV is all I want right now.
They may actually beat Toyota to solid state. Asahi Kasei really give them credibility. â€
E awd prelude!
âSoftware defined vehicleâ is bad news
They may actually beat Toyota to solid state. Asahi Kasei really give them credibility. As well as autonomous driving.

Hey Kirk, Iâve heard Mitsubishi just launched their future roadmap lineup for USA.
Can you make a video about it soon?
Thank you
Afeela is DOA if they ever release anything.
They might be... buy sony and Honda have deep pockets.

Hybrid
I am very excited about any Hybrid EV SUVs from Honda. I would not buy a PHEV until the infrastructure is more prevalent in the Midwest and Northeast part of the U.S. and the charge times are comparable to gas fill up times.
You can charge a phev at home
@@ShaiyanHossain Thatâs not an option for me. Like millions of people, I am a renter.
I think the SUV is very easy to differentiate.
Mid-size SUV EV = Passport size (Seems Americans commonly equate mid-size to CRV when it is considered compact or it is a regional difference)
Entry-level SUV = smaller than HRV for size and price hence entry
3-row SUV = Pilot size
Compact SUV = CRV size
Small-size SUV = HRV size (also called sub-compact SUV)
Sedan EV = Civic or Accord
That entry level SUV has to be Hyundai Venue or Nissan Kicks size if itâs smaller than HRV.
@@blackwhirlwind1245 Possibly yeah since it is smaller. But at the save time BEV does give you some more space. Given it is coming 2026, they need to make it affordable so smaller is the way to go.
An evidence nobody catching up with Tesla.
Honda has a better shot at outlasting Tesla than the other way around.
@@KirkKreifels So far all we can see scoops and roadmaps from Japan. All their EVs were flops so far.
Whereâs the new Odyssey?
in the next century...
Honda Hybrid > Toyota Hybrid
For smoothness that's it.
ppl who feel they need tall vehicles to drive safely, need to start learning how to drive properly.
Driven Honda/Acura for 30 yrs. Ready to buy a new vehicle and, unfortunately , will be changing brands. Would like to see the new ADX but if it isn't hybrid, it won't be a contender. Think Honda has chosen the wrong path for the near future with all emphasis on fully EV. Hope Toyota doesn't eat them before they figure things out.
Just improve the build qualityâŠ.my Honda lawnmower broke down after 1 year of normal use. Engine rebuildâŠ. So much for the power of dream
I donât think they sell lawnmowers anymore even but that seems like a rare case

@@davewilson7602 I donât know about US, but in Canada they are available for purchase at Honda Powerhouse retailers
Our first Honda mower broke. Got it replaced and itâs been good all these years.
Honda is headed in the right direction. They are doing joint venture in China to stay relevant while putting all their resources into next gen EV and hybrid technology. I just wish those Honda concepts were are exciting looking as the Nissan concepts. And Honda hasnât said anything yet about Acura. Maybe theyâll talk about Acura in a separate press release.
focusing on EV is mistake and will hurt Honda in the long run, Toyota has proven Hybrid is the way to go.
Trueeee. Yet no updates for hybrid/ice platform way to go for honda atleast till mibe stepdown
Electric vehicles will plummet in sales. Not many want them anymore.
So I am a long time ride or die Honda fan. I have only owned Honda vehicles but⊠I may go to Toyota. Not having a Hybrid Ridgeline, Pilot, Odyssey and Passport and the new Accord looking like pure garbage has just taken the love of Honda away. I need Honda to step its game up like yesterday. There is still a large portion of the US where full battery vehicles donât work. Iâm in one of those areas. We all donât have homes to secure and charge those vehicles. Hybrid ICE vehicles work. If Honda wants to be successful, learn from your competitors.
No, your are Toyota fanđ
Honda... lots of announcements, no deliveries. :-)
Yup thats mibe i dont know why
Hopeless for mibe waiting for next CEO, always changed the timeline and weird electeification strategt.
What about small Honda hybrid or phev cars?
If theyâre gonna call the saloon, âsaloon.â Why wouldnât they call the SUV, âSUV?â
Saloon delivery is even cooler than sedan delivery.
@@camgere theyâre the same thing
Not excited about EVs from any band including Honda. EVs still suck because, range isn't good enough if you like to go off the beaten path, charging infrastructure in Canada is terrible and really terrible away from the larger urban areas, time to charge is still too long, reliability is still not that great compared to ICE and hybrid, insurance cots are still really high in comparison and the price is still too high. There just is no business case or logic model where and EV makes any sense for me.
Awh, you are so cute when you are begging for attention. ;-)
Gosh looking to purchase a car in the next two years, 2016 Accord EX Coupe owner. Not interested in this direction of Honda. Snoozefest
Not really interested in Hyundai. They always overhype as "better" whatever Toyota does, like disgusting scavengers.
They have been doing the same for many years, while their customers suffer the consequences. Honestly, just a sad company, extremely unreliable and nothing is true in their stuff. I would never pick a Hyundai before a Honda, and I don't think it's smart even thinking about it.
I'm a Honda Guy....we need less EVs and more RWD sports car models.
We need a modern S2K.
Sounds like you donât know what Honda is all about
Considering Honda/Acura never have any EVs of their own in North America, I think they definitely need one or 2 EVs. Kia now has 3 EVs, Hyundai/Genesis has 4 EVs, Toyota/Lexus has 2 EVs, Subaru has 1 EV, Nissan has 2 EVs. We should at least get one CRV size EV and RDX EV.
Honda EVs in china are meh
The long time Honda customers are not impressed. The Honda prices just seem to be going up and up.
