      Seriously though, they’re not commuting, they’re not racing, this is purely for recreation. It’s a power trip for them. They’ll do it during rush hour, even on 50 MPH roads! Can’t pass them depending on the terrain/oncoming traffic. And those who try to pass ultimately cause me to slam on my brakes to avoid a head on collision. So either direction, I am still effected by them. They are basically one step above joggers/dog walkers which travel against traffic, because, I dunno, they want to see when a vehicle is about to approach them, but don’t actually care enough to step 2-3 feet onto the dry publicly owned grass for a few seconds.

      @sirtinderloin7399 Před 5 lety

    • @calvarycustoms6681
      @calvarycustoms6681 Před 5 lety +16

      Dream Machine I totally agree with your clarification. However, I disagree with the premise that Automatic wipers (and LIGHTS, for that matter) are truly a “good” thing. Anyone who can’t be bothered to activate their wipers when it rains or their lights when it’s dark, has absolutely zero right to be operating a large, motorized vehicle amongst their fellow man.
      These lazy bums can ride a motorcycle, if they don’t want to be bothered with lights and wipers; or if they actually embrace how LAZY they are, perhaps a geriatric scooter would be better suited for them. 😜

    Yo Gleb, if you're out there, here are some more arguments you can use:
    1. Buying an electric car and dumping your old car will leave a bigger carbon footprint. What you should do is use your old petrol car all the way until it is barely functional and you need a new one. At that point you could consider looking for an electric car. Electric cars are manufactured and the process generates pollutions as well.
    2. Electric cars run on batteries. And batteries are not environmentally friendly either. The lithium iron inside electric car's batteries require a special breakdown process and that generates pollution as well. Everything has a lifespan and that includes batteries. Also if they are not disposed correctly they can do more damage to the environment than they save.
    3. Charging stations and charge time. I'm not sure where you live (hecc I'm not even a UK resident) but you should see how many charging stations are near you. You know you can count on petrol stations being everywhere but is the same true for oversized chargers? Also waiting for batteries to charge is a pain.
    These are some arguments I came up on the spot (and shamelessly stolen) but hope it helps. Other than that it is a very hard argument to win and i genuinely do believe the future is electric. Just not right now. Eventually when everything is more electric car friendly...

    • @ssj3gohan456
      @ssj3gohan456 Před 5 lety +2

      This is actually a great response. I drive electric by the way, but I don't mind admitting there *are* downsides to it and there are genuine reasons to *right now* keep your old petrol car and wait a bit for electric. In the near or far future it might be different.

    I find it incredible that if you want to drive a truck or a train, a fork-lift or construction equipment etc. you have to periodically up-date your training and prove your ability to continue to operate these machines safely - yet we train people to pass a driving test once and then they never have to think about what they've learnt almost ever again!

      That is a term of respect, in case any one doesn't understand. I am of an age myself, but cannot call myself an elder because I am not in a position to pass on lore. I am an anthropologist, which by definition should mean one who observes. I am happy that he makes intelligent comments.

    Dear Dr. Slow,
    I am an American fan of a long time, and would prefer hanging out with you over Clarkson or Hammond. You seem genuinely calm enough to be rational about a subject most of us find passion in.
    My question is this, I am a truck and SUV guy, of these three automobiles which is the least stupid to drive every day, Ford Raptor with the V6, Ford F450 Dually with the Platinum trim level, or a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Edition which is AWD with the Hellcat motor.
    Thank you for your time,
    JRP from Lawrence Kansas

    Regarding automatic windscreen wipers - my first car was a mk II Ford Cortina with a foot operated pump to operate the windscreen washer jets. This also activated the windscreen wipers to perform a single stroke. Gentle pressure would activate the windscreen wipers without jetting any water onto the screen. Through judicious use I had my friends convinced that my car was equipped with rain sensing windscreen wipers. This was back in the 1980s.

    In 1958, the Cadillac Motor Car Division of General Motors experimented with a water-sensitive switch that triggered various electric motors to close the convertible top and raise the open windows of a specially-built Eldorado Biarritz model, in case of rain. The first such device appears to have been used for that same purpose in a concept vehicle designated Le Sabre and built around 1950-51.

    first question, don’t make it loud for loudness sake. if you put a turbo on it with a proper rebuild with properly gap rings, forge internals and upgraded cam shafts and it sounds louder then go ahead. making a car louder without adding any performance will just annoy your neighbors.

    My 2008 Audi A5 rain sensors actually work very well! Only thing is that sometimes, at some random moment, they’ll just get triggered when it’s bone dry. Which is often not good cause it causes stripes. But that’s rare. Other than that, their sensitivity is spot on.
