Living completely off grid is so hard for you. I could live without most things, but running water is not one of them. Your family is lucky you are such a good and inventive cook. I hope your shoulder gets better soon ❤
I'm not sure how we completely ran out, it is extraordinarily rare! we get low and we know we have to make the effort to top up, but running out is strange for us! oh well, live and learn :D

@@sandrajune1172 I don't think so, I think we just got out of whack in the process of collecting water, had all this rain and so didn't grab pods because of it, but the rain wasn't enough to keep up hehe.
It’s only as hard as you make it. I have seen a channel that didn’t have a clue what they were doing when they went off grid. And other channels that do just fine.
Dear lord girl, you sure have had a heck of a week!! So sorry to hear about your shoulder injury, don't ignore it for too long, if it isn't getting better. The lack of water definitely is rough and then to have chainsaw problems, in the cold weather, ugh. This shows exactly how challenging living off grid can be, but yet you don't miss a beat, despite no coffee all day. It just again shows that your superhero cape is still fully in tact.😊 I am again loving watching you use your new oven, and learning all of the details of it. It is such a blessing for you to have this.
I love that you keep the off-grid lifestyle real! Its not so glamorous as some make it out to be - it can be hard work and the upkeep to make sure things are running is constant. We are about to become off-grid, which will change things up a bit as well as rely on rain for water again. I hope things get better soon for you.
I think the rain is why we ran out, we didn't grab pods of water because it was raining but there wasn't enough rain to compensate for the lack of collecting as well!
Still love your content and in particular your practical manner! This one how you deal with water (lack) weather, wood (lack) all in your stride. Speedy healing shoulder!🐝
Oh my Nyssa , no coffee in the am.. oh no , well at least you had it for the afternoon.. a bit of a 💩 week, running out of water a bugger !!! & lack of wood... it's is freezing at present, but plenty of layers you keep warm.. I know about running out of water, I use to live on a property with 6 people and we somehow always ran out. Teenagers showering to long 😮....

I think it’s only the second time we’ve ever run completely out! Normally we’re pretty good with it! I think the constant rain threw us, even though it obviously wasn’t making much of an impact on our tanks!

You should have gone to a neighbour and borrowed some water! That's what I would have done! I bet it tasted like the best coffee you've ever had!
We don't really have any neighbours, if we were desperate we could have travelled a little to a friend, but the berkeys had drinking water in them for the kids, we just didn't waste it on coffee hehe :D. I think I'll buy a pack of bottled water to sit on the shelf and rotate each trip as a JIC measure but i think this is only the 2nd time we've been silly enough to run out of water in 6 years! :D

Our youngest grand (2) is allergic to dairy, mainly milk and cheese, butter no issue. Love watching for new ideas of things to make for him. Making a dairy free chocolate peanut butter sour dough boulle right now.

I think my kiddos have built up a bit of a tolerance to it now, it means I can not be as worried about it as when they were little! But I'm not comfortable putting huge amounts in anything hehe :D

The kids are weeding for me as part of their schoolwork routine so we can set some beds up for them to be responsible for as well! :D. I'm going to get my seedling shelves all set up as well and the hot house tidied up :D

It is 9.16pm and I started watching you make the cookies at 8.25pm which made me want something with choc chips😂😂 . I stopped watching, made a double batch of triple choc muffins which are coming out of the oven in 10 minutes and I will have one with a cup of tea. Thanks for expanding my waistline 👌and I am not sorry one bit 💕💕

Nyssa, I will take a pork roast, put it in a pot, add potatoes carrots and cabbage to it, it is so good. I love cabbage anyway it is cooked. Fried in bacon grease, boiled or added to roasts. I know I would like Okonomiyaki. 😋Now I don't like coleslaw, I know that sounds crazy, but to me, raw cabbage tends to burn my mouth. I also don't like baked beans, but people always want me to make them, they say they are the best baked beans they have ever tasted. LOL When the person said you guys must like your meat burnt, you should have said, "Yes, yes we do. Thank you."😂
I never used to like cabbage much, but I have a huge appreciation for it now! I haven’t tried it with a roast though! I will have to give it a go!
I quite like baked beans and I much prefer my own to store bought! They’re a lot of effort to can though.

Here in the US we have a brand of cast iron products called Lodge. They sell square tempered glass lids on Amazon. Don't know how Amazon works where you live.
I will search Amazon, I did have a look but couldn’t find anything the right size, but I’ll search the lodge brand specifically and see what comes up. A lot of things end up really expensive here on Amazon that are much cheaper in the US unfortunately!

Our high today was 33° Celsius but it felt like 38°C. It is just so oppressive when it's that warm and muggy. Next week we'll eventually get down to 27°C. Summer is the USA, you get what you get I guess.
I made okonomiyaki Monday, I do it with dashi broth, flour, eggs, cabbage and thinly sliced onion. My daughter likes bacon on hers and since we had some salad shrimp, we threw those in as well. It's a whatever's in the fridge kind of dish for us. I've used leftover chicken, ham or whatever. It also depends on what your family likes as well. Even plain, it's absolutely delicious.
I think they're a super versatile dish, super filling but able to be customised to tastes!
I was grilling chicken skewers which had been marinated in Italinan dressing. They were simple skewers, just chicken, bell pepper, & onion..I left the grill on low and walked into the house for less than 5 mins to check on my potatoes. I came out and the grill was on fire, engulfed in flame. I turned off the grill, but it kept buring. Just then my husband came out. He ran to help. The chicken skewars/kabobs were ok. They had not been like that for Lone. The ones in the worst part of the fire were black but most of them just had some char but tasted good. Idk how u use a grill for everything because I couldn't handle it for 5 mins.
I once accidentally set our grill on fire, some fat from a pork belly landed in the flames! I was really sick at the time and probably shouldn't have been cooking... lol, luckily we had a load of sand just delivered for the gardens, so I just grabbed a bucket of that to put it out, but it was scary!
I just got my back looked at due to having various aches and Panadol needing pain for 2 weeks. I went to a chiropractor. I experienced worked on aches for a day later but so glad I had it all adjusted now. I do hope you can get your back sorted cos I can sympathise as to how debilitating it can get. Getting it checked out again in 2 months. I do love those cabbage pancakes. I picked up a purple one marked down. Glad the stove enables you to process more. How frustrating the water issue would have been. The cold has been annoying down in Vic. Colder inside than outside it feels sometimes. The wind is so icy. Grateful we have had some decent rain as it was getting that way of having to water everything. Mind you a bit of a quagmire in some spots.

Do you have hot water bottles in Australia? Rubber flat bags you fill, put in a fleecy cover and take to bed, keep warm all night. Handy on ur knee through the day if cold. I always think of Oz as a hot place so no idea if you have them. They are cheap and fantastic. Mind you , you need water to fill them!😂😢
We do! The girls use them a bit heh, I find sleeping not an issue, decent blankets, flannelette sheets and socks! It’s when I’m awake it’s chilly lol

I think cookies and ice cream are a perfectly acceptable dinner..😊 i also have used cookie sheets as a lid for a pan...they get tbe job done. Hope the 💩 show has gotten better by now. Thanks for the video 😊😊😊😊

So glad your new oven is already saving you time! Also - have you tried maple walnut ice cream? Maybe it’s only a thing here in Canada but walnuts + maple syrup are things you have on hand!
Oooh, I'll have to give that a go, I do have some walnuts in the freezer and nearly always have maple syrup, I shall google :D

Having no water for your morning coffee is really bad , One of our pipes bust in my unit complex , no water for 2 1/2 days so now I have a slab of bottled water because I can’t live with out a cup of tea .
I think I'm adding a slab onto the shopping trips, can rotate it through every couple of trips so it stays good and fresh and as a JIC :D

Whenever you have empty juice bottles, you could store water in them. I hate to go without my coffee
We don't buy much that could be refilled with water I realised when I was thinking about it lol. I might buy a cheap pack of the 1.5L waters next trip and maybe buy one each trip and rotate them in and out. The berkey's had water in them, but we saved that for straight drinking water until we got stuff sorted :D

I also reuse freezer bags and leave the empty ones in the freezer. For cookies and various bread products as well as date balls.
It is extremely rare we run out of water! I'm not entirely sure why we did this time lol. We have a fair few chooks, but they slow right down for a couple of months in winter and we sometimes have a bit of a scarcity of eggs, so we use them mindfully. In spring/summer though we have so many we're finding ways to use them hehe :D

I’m in Wisconsin, USA, and I can’t wait for the temps to be 30-40°F; I hate this damn heat (90°F). Champions are born and bred in the cold!!! When it gets into the high 50°F I start using the wood stove, but only because I have small children and a wife that’s always cold…🤣
