I've actually done some personal research into the whole "confidential informant" thing and trust me, what happened to that poor girl is NOT all that uncommon. It's not all departments but the one's that do recruit their confidential informants in this egregious manner will absolutely take full advantage of people who are particularly vulnerable. They'll take people with relatively minor charges but are young and ignorant, like Rachel Hoffman, and they'll scare the crap outta them so they'll do their bidding. I mean, who the hell gets 4 years in prison for possession of weed and a couple of Molly? There was actually another case very similar to Rachel's in North Dakota back in 2014, the guy's name was Andrew Sadek. He was a college student and got caught selling small amounts of pot on campus. Ironically, he was caught cuz he sold an informant weed a couple times, $60 worth the first time and then $20 the second. He fucked up by consenting to letting them search his dorm room the next day but all they found was a grinder with marijuana residue but when he came in voluntarily the next day to talk to the police, they scared the crap outta him by telling him that he would be charged with a class A felony for dealing drugs on campus and that charge carried up to 40 years in prison. They had him convinced that even though he wouldn't likely get 40 years, he'd still end up serving some serious prison time.....unless he agreed to let them use him as a confidential informant. He had to do 3 different buys from 1 dealer and 1 apiece from 2 others. And we're talking small amounts, no more than $60 each time so it's not like they were aiming to catchhigh level dealers but it was still dangerous. He had 2 more buys left when he disappeared. And instead of investigating it as a missing persons case, those fuckers assumed he had ran off so he wouldn't have to do the last 2 buys and took and took out 2 felony warrants to "motivate him" to return. A police dive team found his body at the bottom of a river 2 months later during a training exercise. He had been shot in the head and they conveniently ruled it a suicide even though he was wearing a backpage filled with heavy rocks to ensure his body wouldn't float up to the surface. So according to them, he shot himself in the head and somehow threw himself in the river while wearing the weighed down backpack. No note. No weapon found. Nada. What a load of bullshit. I'm sure he was found out by one if the dealers. He didn't even know them before he was forced to be a C.I. They put that boy in a very dangerous situation and his blood is absolutely on their hands, just like Rachel Hoffman's. Had he just took the charge instead, he would've probably received probation. Like I said, they take advantage of people that don't know any better or people that are desperate, such as drug addicts. One good thing that came out of those two cases was that laws were put into place in their names in their home states that stop the police from using such tactics in the future but it was a helluva price to pay. Sorry for going off on a rants....it's just a topic I have particularly strong feelings about.
Who takes their 4 year old out in the middle of a lake to swim alone and not wear a life jacket themselves. Very sad it angers me. I would never put myself in that situation no matter how confident my swimming skills were.

There gonna make a movie about Rachel Hoffman.
Poor girl died saving her son
Who takes their 4 year old out in the middle of a lake to swim alone and not wear a life jacket themselves. Very sad it angers me. I would never put myself in that situation no matter how confident my swimming skills were.
good for you, do you feel better about yourself now after shitting on that poor kids mother?
Jesus she saved her kids life. Calm down we don't know the circumstances
