  • My name is Xavier CARRIOU I am a French Audiologist , my company has created software to model and test any kind of tinnitus ("tinnitometer TM"); this device is use by specialists in audiology.
With this tool we discovered an application to relieve tinnitus .
We call it "sound therapy of the wind".
Use headphones and balance the sound to be just at the same level as your tinnitus .
Be careful to hear it gently, never too strong.
Remember that too much noise affects your ear and can create tinnitus.

Hello, Xavier. Thanks for posting this. I have a question: if I have a hearing loss at around 6000 Hz, should I listen to therapy audios that are missing (or notched at) this frequency? Or should the therapy audio include sound at 6000 Hz?

Hello, Xavier. I have tinnitus in the right ear at about 6000 Hz. Does this file here have 6,000 Hz notched, or is the sound I hear at 6,000 Hz? As I understand it, to help alleviate the loudness of the tinnitus, the frequency of the tinnitus should be notched out of the sound source, correct?

First of all you must be sure that your tinnitus is around the 6 000 Hz
mask your tininitus with the sound .
If it's impossible to mask it. The therapy can't work (to much hearing loss for exemple or the frequency or the width is out of range).
Use the masking during One hour.
The best is at the end of the day before sleeping.
After the treatment you must be quiet
      The inhibition is variable
More than 80% have it and the duration is also variable.

      FIRST OF ALL:
Be leary of any declarative statements, when it comes to tinnitus: such as "this works" or "this doesn't work" or "this is the cure" or "there is no cure", or "tinnitus is caused by ...” etc etc etc because there are three types of T: A- inner ear nerve ending damage B- pulsate tinnitus, (constricted blood flow in a vessel near the ear drum: this is you hearing actual sound), and C: somatic, or OF THE BODY, tinnitus. And, with the somatic kind, there could be a dozen different reason or causes: dental issues, jaw issues, sinus issues, spinal issues, neck issues, possibly even skull issues, possibly even osteoporosis of the skull (google it) etc etc etc
Have you tried the pink noise? -- yes, it usually works only very temporarily - unless you can find that the more you do it the longer the silence lasts - or unless you find that playing some form of ambient pink noise, in the background of your environment, (over speakers), keeps it away -but for many many people it takes it away WHILE the headphones are on -(not just masking) and the silence lasts for SOME time after the headphones are removed -- (this is for the nerve whine type not the pulsate, whooshing blood flow type) - and after camping by a stream for ten days, (during which time the sound from the stream stopped it dead without the slightest whine for ten whole days), I was T free for 24 hours - try it -- if it doesn't work at all, you MAY have the pulsate, blood flow caused type -- in that case, MAYBE aspirin, etc, to thin the blood -- niacin to expand the vessels and chealation therapy, to clean out the vessels, MIGHT help - also, if one has the pulsate (blood flow caused) type -- one might want to give up tobacco, as that constricts all the vessels and capillaries
also - everyone on earth should give up homogenized milk, because, according to Everett C Koop, when he was Surgeon General in 1991, homogenized milk causes arterial sclerosis even in infants and kills 500,000 Americans per year - way more than cigarettes - pasteurization is no problem, but HOMOGENIZATION is where they spin the milk in a centrifuge until the fat globules break up SO small they won't meld back together again - this keeps the cream from separating and gives the milk a six day shelf life, but then the globules are so small they pass into the linings of the blood vessels and cause plaque and scar tissue -(true) -- THAT STUFF ALONE could cause the pulsate tinnitus in a person, by constricting the blood flow in one tiny vessel in yer head that's near the ear drum -- just before it gives you a heart attack and just after it gives you a stroke.
And dig this: juice still counts as sugar - you gotta DROP the friggin sugar!!! It wrecks all the blood vessels and rots yer teeth

I don't want to sound like I don't believe a word being said here... but can anyone tell me why this is supposed to work? And how it's possible? I have read that some therapies can do more harm than good, so I think it's important to know what you're doing.

    • @Tinnitometer
      @Tinnitometer  Před 7 lety +4

90% of the people with a tinnitus have an hearing loss.
The hearing loss is usualy in the hight frequency, usualy the tinnitus is in the same frequency than the loss.
The sound of silence is about 30 dB and the tinnitus is usualy 5 or 10 dB.
The best thing to do if you have an hearing loss is to use an hearing aid and the correction is enought to cover the tinnitus with the sound of silence. 80% of user have a good result . But if the loss is too loud or if the frequency is too hight for the hearing aid, a good solution to appeaze the tinntius is to cover with a sound like those .
We can speak of therapy because sometime the tinnius stop or be acceptable.
You don't have any risk if you hear the sound just a little bit higter than your tinnitus just to cover it.
Never too loud . Too much sound can affect your audition.

I believe SOME tinnitus : particularly if it is of the somatic type, is actually engendered by bleed-over into the audio cortex from NON auditory nerves in the head or jaw or skull or face, and the noise therapy trains the brain to differentiate between the actual sound frequencies from the ear and the tinnitus producing data coming from the other non auditory nerve that ends up in a place in the brain that is near enough to the audio cortex to cause electronic bleed over - just a theory, but we now must acknowledge that some tinnitus has nothing to do with sound or the ear or the auditory nerve
