- In this video, we show you how to plant and propagate the colourful Sweet William into your garden. The vivid colours of Sweet William flower clusters are a welcome and refreshing addition to any urban garden. They are delicately fragranced and are a favourite of pollinators, such as bees.
Thank you for the video. Comprehensive care and lovely music!
Thank you!
Awesome video. I brought these plants yesterday and now I'm glad I did. 😊
Thank you!
Muchas gracias por este video ❤ lo ame , lástima que lo vi muy tarde me botaron la plantita completa Y no sabía cómo guardarla
I've grown many from seed this year. I hope they will grow nicely when I plant them out. I wonder if snail and slugs go for them? Thanks for sharing 👍
Snails and slugs thrive in moist, humid and wet conditions and Sweet William is no exception if grown in those conditions. Good luck with your SW planting, don't worry they are easiest plants to grow and soon you will have plenty to share them with your friends and neighbours. Thanks :)
My sweet William seem to grow babies which I pass on to friends and I keep seeds too
Thanks for the information. Nice music too. Mine came up in a packet of wild seed flowers, the flowers are very dark red, I didn't notice them at first, the tallest are only about 4" tall too. Am in Hawaii so not their natural environment though at 3500' it can get cool in the winter. Anyway, it's a nice ground cover even without the flowers! Good to know the correct way to propagate is there a particular time of year to do that?
Thank you for enjoying the video and music. Majority of plants we grow are not natives but they adapt the environment and naturalized and do well in their new environment. Sweet Williams start to regrow (from previous year planting) when temperatures are above 10 degrees C and flowers starts to appear when temperature reaches to above 15-20 degree C.
Did sweet William is similar with dianthus?
Sweet William is common name for Dianthus barbatus. There are other Dianthus too. For example, Dianthus caryophyllus (Carnations), Dianthus carthusianorum etc.
