I have been so nervous to do this because philodendron Birkins are not as easy to propagate as other plants. But i have done my research and now instead of one philodendron Birkin, i now have 3! So I hope this video helps any of you out there that are wanting to learn how to propagate their philodendron Birkins!!
    I hope you enjoy💚

    I have been incorporating live indoor plants into my house now for about 3 years now and I am absolutely obsessed with them. So I wanted to show you how I care for my plants, how I fertilize my plants and also do some propagation of a few of my plants.
    I recently did do a house plant tour and it ended up being 3 videos they are all linked below if you would like to watch them:

    It's an aroid, easy to propagate, as long as you cut between the nodes and make sure you have at least one node on the part you want to propagate. The Birkin is hard because the nodes are very close together. You did pretty good, but it is a hard plant to locate nodes. I would have used small pruning scissors rather than a knife. I also would have cut the nodes off prior to repotting. But that is wear tiny pruning scissors makes it easier. I would water propagate first, as I find they do so much better that way. You said that at the end of the video. Soil can cause more rotting before more roots can come in. So you are learning and did a great job. It is a hard plant to do that to.

      Thanks so much. I was so nervous to do it. I’m so happy with how the propagations are doing. I’m getting ready to post a follow up video on how they are progressing in the next day or two. Just editing it now 👍

    It’s grown so much since your first Birkin video! I’m so excited for you! Mine is still quite small but it’s getting there.

      It was growing like crazy. That is why I decided to propagate it. So far the propagations look good!! Thank you. Good luck with yours.

      Thank you as well for watching. I was pretty scared to do it as this Birkin is my favorite houseplant I own but so far they are looking good I think I did I correctly and my 3 plants are doing well 👍

    Oh my goodness I understand your nervousness 😂 I want to propagate my own but I'm so scared to damage the pla t having to cut so "in the middle" of it!

      It was scary for sure. But my cuttings I did are actually doing very well so I am happy with the results.

      @@theplantingbug2045 So glad it went well! I'm not sure if mine is as far ahead as yours, but it is looking pot-bound. We'll see, you made it seem so simple

    • @theplantingbug2045
      @theplantingbug2045  Před 2 lety

      Mine was a bit root bound as well but seems to be doing fine after I repotted it. Good luck with yours 👍

    Ah thank you so much! I’ve had mine for about 6 months now and it’s grown a lot but my new leaves are struggling so I knew it was time either get a new pot or… I noticed mine has a loooooot of nodes and I’m absolutely going to replant it now that I know I can cut it from the mother plant 😍

    is there an updated video

  • @dimpledintrovert
    @dimpledintrovert Před 2 lety

    Welp, I didn't do it like that. I just pulled the small sections away from the mother, being careful not to damage the roots. Placed the mother and babies in separate pots. Now they are all wilting and yellowing. The other videos I watched didn't show to do it this way. Wish I had seen this video sooner. 🤦🏾‍♀️

    Hmm we have to be careful before we cut from the mother plant. . BTW how old is ur plant. I too have it but still I feel give it some time to grow bigger before propagating pl.let me know

    • @theplantingbug2045
      @theplantingbug2045  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi there. This plant is probably about 5 years old. When I bought it, it was an established plant already and was very root bound. So I am hoping the propagations will turn out well. We will see, I will definitely keep you updated. 💚🌱. Wish me luck!
