What really got me about this episode was not so much the fake interactions or forced smiles but the fact that Lacie was a genuine nice person and wanted the same for others. She gave nearly everyone a 5 star regardless of how they were or what she received from them and she always made the first move, but even after all of that she was getting like 4 or 2 stars and it's always when she walks away (with the exception of her brother who was a bit of an asshole but was being real with her and loved her) proof that even if your being respectful you will get nothing in return, just as that guy at the car changer counter said "it wasn't a meaningful encounter" dispite how good her manners were
No she was not a being a nice person to be honest. She gave nearly everyone a 5 star that is true yet she just blatantly gave 1 star to her own brother who was just trying to honestly speak to her as he was concerned about her. She only gave 5 stars because she was hoping to get 5 stars in return. (and yeah I know this comment is 3 years old ^^)

@@icezeric yeah I agree with that she definitely wasn't as petty as some of the other characters shown like the guy at the Gas-(electicity)station or the flight attendant.
Here people talking as only introverts hate this interactions. There's people who is genuine and nice even talking about weather while other people smells fake and pretentious from two miles away (the video case). Anyone who values authenticity and despises fakeness will feel irritated and drained having to stand fake unrealiable people, it doesn't mind being extroverted or introverted.
i feel like everyone has these types of people in their lives. the ones that you’ve know for a while but it was always an arms length distance kinda relationship. these aren’t the people you love or hate. they’re just kinda there. this is the only kind of interaction you’ll ever have with them.
Honestly, since you really cant tell someone you dont like off for absolutely no reason whatsoever other than "just because.." without causing some uneeded conflict, passive agressive is the way of life
They only make eye contact at each other twice, initially to make the facial recognition and then again later Bethany looks at Lacie to confirm how impressed she is. The head tilt as you smile is a classic sign of insincerity. BDH is trying to hard to make a connection while Bethany just looks away and then BDH gives up when she’s made to feel inferior with the it’s great you’re happy comment. The set ups in this show are great.
"you've all done this" No not all of us have. There's a difference between being polite and not ignoring someone and straight up feigning interest in someone. The latter is disgusting.

@@imsohappy303 Not really, and definetly not "or you'll die" lmao. If you dont want to talk to them just tell them that, and even if youre talking you dont have to fake interest in their lives or laugh at their non-existent jokes. Ideally, your genuine self would be able to handle at least that much without being an asshole, and even if they think you are, the opinions of an absolute stranger shouldnt shake you so much that you feel like you just HAVE to suppress your genuine thoughts and feelings. Being fake in conversations like this is just a sign of insecurity that leads to feelings bubbling up inside in a toxic way. Thats the whoooole theme of this episode of Black Mirror, like the takeaway is that doing that is bad lol.
I'd say she wasn't a sociopath, she was quite a well-adjusted person that happened to fall into a downward spiral and then it climaxed with that giant meltdown at the wedding
I'm literally an introvert person and when acquaintances approach me, it will be always this awkward. No, I'm not faking anything with them.I am just an awkward human. Its like I end every phrase with that scray giggle or smile to laughing expression.😂
Oh thank god I found an introvert comment that wasn't self righteous or some excuse for poor social skills!!! :D Ur right, small talk is awkward sometimes since not everyone clicks. Especially for introverts who haven't quite figured out the art lol.
i have no idea what tipe of intro/extrovert i am however we can all agree that fake people are really uncomfortable to stay around if you have at least a bit of social consciousness
You're 100% an introvert lol, if you were an extrovert you wouldn't be having such thoughts, extroverts can be around fake people easily, I mean they don't love them but meh, it's their bread and butter, it's like spider or snake experts, they don't allow themselves to get bitten but they ain't afraid of them anymore and handle them easily, they can be comfortable around such venomous creatures, everyone placing comments here about how cringey this episode is are introverts... all of them...
Poncho Bolaños not 100%, it depends on how i’m feeling, i don’t like to bound myself to descriptions since i consider myself a multi-lateral person that adjusts itself to the environment , i can handle people really well since i know how to read them but i need some periods of solidarity if i stay too much around people, only my group of friends are an exception but i’m the leader from the shadows making sure everyone is mentally alright in really subtle ways while my mate is the direct leader organizing eveybody, while i love to surround myself with genuine people and most of the times they are introverts with small exceptions, i feel equally good to be alone in social places and not have to consult with anybody about what’s next to come, i enjoy talking with all kinds of people but i hate the fake ones because it feels like i’m talking to a fucking child that’s unable to get past insecurities so they don’t feel good with themselves, me being extremely empathetic i can tell instantly
@@ponchiiito Anytime I click on a comment there's you with your ideas of extroverts and telling people is not extrovert. NO. Being talkative, extrovert or having social habilities doens't make you stand or like or be comfortable about fake people. it's a moral or personal values thing. In the best case if you are a really social person with high social habilities you can avoid some potential attacks or use tricks to avoid interaction. And plus take the punch my worse experiences with people were with a few very snake fake introverts who were maquiavelic people who went to attack the back not the face so there's no way I could have seen and avoid the attack. Also being very closed people I couldnt saw their intentions like with more open talkative people.

This is amazing acting. We're living this kind of conversation right now. So many of us can't even come up with a decent discussion without looking at their social media. It's scary to think about.
See, from an actors perspective, this is such a critical and important piece from the entire episode. It’s a reflection of the most monotone, or rather automatic expression of modern conversation. I wouldn’t necessarily find it cringe, but interesting. This scene obviously has a more satirical tone than “real” normal automatic conversations and greeting exchanges, but it’s still very valuable in that viewers find it cringe, because they’ve probably experience the same thing.
Got, I love the music in this episode so much, especially these opening scenes. It's this idillic world with this insidious undertone, but the music is just punching you in the face with "this world is tragedy."
The sad thing with this episode, is that the world is pretty much at this point. Rating people online, only caring about how many likes you get and overall being a fake person. And if you aren't as popular or don't spend every minute catching up with these influencers, you're a social outcast.
I used listen to the music from this episode almost everyday. Now I don’t listen to it as much but I still enjoy it every so often. Especially the piece playing in this one.
Basic reason I like to have my lunch break alone reading or on my phone. People are the most fake at work and will ask you “What happened?” When you take a day off so they can snitch on you to your boss and other people and now everyone will make lounge room jokes behind your back
Wow, the subject and meaning here is great. I love it when dialogue looks like normal chitchat on the surface yet reveals so much more when listening to it.
They're both taking jabs at each other. Maybe not hate but for sure trying to get under the skin. Lacie is so obsessed with climbing the ranks she's forcing small talk about the cat. Then Beth immediately brings up " omg you're still at your old job?" And then Lacie responding..." well good luck.." and meaning " oh first day making impressions amongst elite workers??? No pressure bitch!"
That's why I don't like to talk to people, it feels like this. Asking questions I don't care, answering questions they don't care, just for the sake of talking, but then I'm weird for not talking to people, to be normal I have to ask stupid questions to get useless information so people believe I'm their friend.
I get told I come across as rude when I don’t really engage with my coworkers other than a “hey man” or a “ok see you tomorrow” and when I don’t have fully fledged conversations with them. I don’t care to know about their lives and they don’t care to know about mine. I’m not going to force myself to act dishonest just so there can be some senseless dialogue. With customers, it’s different because of course you have to serve them. But with coworkers or others at school or whatever I just won’t put in the effort for something fake. It’s just mind numbing to me. And people say I come across as snobbish because of this, when in reality I’m also quite shy and will often never initiate conversations first. I can reply though and keep a conversation flowing but I will never ever initiate.
I go thru this type of conversations everyday at work. At first it's annoying but after some times it doesn't bother me anymore - just some superficial niceties you do, who knows? Maybe in years to come you may need them and all the loathsome pretense wouldn't much of a waste.
My teacher played this episode in class a couple of years ago and I must say, it was really eye-opening. Ever since watching this episode I've become less and less of a social media addict.
For my anti-social self, 90% of all human interactions is some variation of this. Saying what you feel you must say to be accepted and pretending to care about what others are telling you. Exhausting.
This happens constantly, you don't quite know them or talk to them but have seen them numerous times when first coming and then pass byes'. And the conversation starts and isn't dry, but you want to keep being the comedian in the center who forth conveys a funny topic...but you can't connect with them on it.
This is my favorite Black Mirror episode out of all. It shows today society perfectly. The cringe, the mask, the backstabbing. It's basically hell on earth.

(and yeah I know this comment is 3 years old ^^)
@@AeneaSXI lol no worries I'm surprised this comment of mine got likes let alone a reply but let me rephares, she was a nice person but def not a kind person for majority of the episode, she def did what she did for the number because its just how her world works, but there were moments of kindness where her niceness seemed genuin like with the gay couple and the coffee shop, but she's so used to people being fake that's prob the reason why she acted they way she did to her brother, she ain't used to honest criticism and from someone with a lower score so that was def the start of her Nosedive
I'd rather take fake niceness than real cruelty
sad
god i hate people who are so sickly sweet to you but it's so obvious they're being fake and they hate your guts.
They're the kind of people who will smile at you until it's purge night. Better lock your door.
@@BlueJWay999 You should also speak for yourself in your first comment. If you don't know what they do, just shut up about them.
"you've all done this"
No not all of us have.
There's a difference between being polite and not ignoring someone and straight up feigning interest in someone.
The latter is disgusting.
Factsss people in this comment section really tryna make it so they dont have to reassess their character. If you see this clip and say "me", theres a problem
fr
Yeah. People in the comments projecting much :/
@@kidmouse1135 i don't ser the problem in being in a fake small talk like this, sometimes people just talk to You out of nowhere and You have to follow or else they Will think that You are not "polite" or things like that and then You die
This is why I almost entirely deleted social media I’d just rather I make friends based on us actually getting to know each other and not by posts
Lacie's transformation was impressive, it's interesting how these types have potential to act like sociopaths
Ur right, small talk is awkward sometimes since not everyone clicks. Especially for introverts who haven't quite figured out the art lol.
Ugh same. It feels painful, but I don’t know how to think of anything else to say without taking too long so hahaha
Introvert =\= awkward. It literally ONLY means you value alone time.
i have no idea what tipe of intro/extrovert i am however we can all agree that fake people are really uncomfortable to stay around if you have at least a bit of social consciousness
@@ponchiiito I am an extrovert, there is no value in fake people
@@ponchiiito Anytime I click on a comment there's you with your ideas of extroverts and telling people is not extrovert.
@@andren.6156 I see.
It’s weird how real this episode is to how real life is and is becoming more of
The music is everything in this episode, incredible
cold as f... such a masterpiece
'We do/buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like.'
Best episode. Because it’s the most likely outcome of reality, social credit systems are already a thing in China. This episode is terrifying.
This needs a crossover
Nosedive with FIGHT CLUB
J H it's so nice seeing a random guy on the internet actually get the point of Fight Club
J H Because most guys who watched that movie would love to be in the Fight Club and think Tyler Durden is right. The women who watched it realized its a film about harmful toxic masculinity and misogyny.
The crossover that we need
@@SkyGodKazuha if you think fight club has anything to do with misogyny, you're the one totally missing the point. It's about being unfulfilled doing what society tells you to do, nothing to do with toxic masculinity lmfao
I’m not sure how one minute can feel like several hours, but these two managed to accomplish it.
0:26 dolphin laugh omg
This episode was honestly painful to watch yet it's my second favorite episode from the series.
I'm lucky to work in an engineering firm where we don't have bs like this.
This is amazing acting. We're living this kind of conversation right now.
So many of us can't even come up with a decent discussion without looking at their social media. It's scary to think about.
Yes, it is.
This comment is aging like fine wine.
That flutter at each laugh's end by the main actress is PHENOMENALLLLL!!!
You know I've met people like this in real life. Wow
this kind of conversation was basically me and everyone at my last workplace.
i dont play when i say this episode triggered some stuff in my head and made me think "what the hell am i doing with my life?"
It's this idillic world with this insidious undertone, but the music is just punching you in the face with "this world is tragedy."
what’s even sadder is when you’re actually interested in the person but you just suck at carrying conversations lol :/
0:12 her laugh is perfect for this situation.
The sad thing with this episode, is that the world is pretty much at this point. Rating people online, only caring about how many likes you get and overall being a fake person. And if you aren't as popular or don't spend every minute catching up with these influencers, you're a social outcast.
I died some million times in a single minute.
The realest part is when they’re waiting for the elevator and don’t choose to interact YET
This episode perfectly illustrated our society. But it was so difficult to watch lol.
I used listen to the music from this episode almost everyday. Now I don’t listen to it as much but I still enjoy it every so often. Especially the piece playing in this one.
Basic reason I like to have my lunch break alone reading or on my phone. People are the most fake at work and will ask you “What happened?” When you take a day off so they can snitch on you to your boss and other people and now everyone will make lounge room jokes behind your back
Men in the elevator be like: "..."
Nobody ever told me the kardashians went back to looking natural...
Am surprised they are even chatting at all with all that technology
Wow, the subject and meaning here is great. I love it when dialogue looks like normal chitchat on the surface yet reveals so much more when listening to it.
this is straight out of an influencer girl's comment section
ur right lmao
this episode left its mark on me.
this isn’t at all overly dramatized and the whole “ not too distant “ future makes me feel sick and full of dread
Thank god this ain't a reality
Agreed. But the ending was such a great release for all the stress that built up during the episode. I recall laughing joyfully at that scene.
Rewatched this ep the most!
I could not stand to hear that. They both hate and super jealous of each other.
Jelous of eachother?? No lmao, they just hate eachother
They just hate each other's guts
Oh man this episode was one of my favorites
One of the best episodes ever. Also the music in this episode is great.
Give credit where credit is due. This is from an episode of black mirror on Netflix. Should have said that in the description!
Draco totally
Most of the conversations of this episode were so realistic (being double faced and blah blah blah) that it became cringy
Omg just imagine being forced to put on a good face and a smile for EACH PERSON YOU MEET I’d rather die in a cave
I go thru this type of conversations everyday at work. At first it's annoying but after some times it doesn't bother me anymore - just some superficial niceties you do, who knows? Maybe in years to come you may need them and all the loathsome pretense wouldn't much of a waste.
jeffree starand manny mua
0:27 that laugh lol
Listen to the music from this episode and a few others everyday. I specifically love the track in the background of this scene.
My teacher played this episode in class a couple of years ago and I must say, it was really eye-opening. Ever since watching this episode I've become less and less of a social media addict.
For those that got here from their recomended list and don't know what this is, this is an episode of the show Black Mirror
Thank you lol I had to scroll like 500 comments to get here
For my anti-social self, 90% of all human interactions is some variation of this. Saying what you feel you must say to be accepted and pretending to care about what others are telling you. Exhausting.
As an introvert this is my nightmare.
This happens constantly, you don't quite know them or talk to them but have seen them numerous times when first coming and then pass byes'. And the conversation starts and isn't dry, but you want to keep being the comedian in the center who forth conveys a funny topic...but you can't connect with them on it.
This is literally me with all of my coworkers. Oh wait, this is also me with all of my peers. I can't relate to anyone.
This is how my neurons communicate
The way they don’t hesitate before talking is unnerving
One of my fav episodes
I fart in these type situations to make them uncomfortable
People in Dubai 🤣
DRCLBMZY
Lol, I live in Dubai.
Køøkie Monster same for me 😆😆
in the middle east in general
I didn't understand 🙄🙄😕😕😕
The best episode of Black Mirror, because it's like this is coming tomorrow.
Man all my conversations are like these in school and it's literally torture
Their high pitched voices annoy the hell out of me.
This is my favorite Black Mirror episode out of all. It shows today society perfectly. The cringe, the mask, the backstabbing. It's basically hell on earth.
I have to say, this isn't a modern thing, this is a "aspiring to rise up in society by being fake" thing and it has probably always existed
Dramatic
@@marsco2442 true but more common with modern since everybody is either forced to be good in the major society standards or get canceled.
I rolled my eyes at scenes like this
Her laugh is so perfectly sweet and painfully awkward.
