    Audience: "Oh come on, are seriously doing Cars 3?!"
    Pixar: "What? You don't like the Cars franchise?"
    Audience: "Hell not, it's absolutely your weakest one ever!"
    Pixar: "So you don't care what's going to happen to the characters?"
    Audience: "Absolutely not, they were never really that interesting to begin with"
    Pixar: "So you don't mind if we'll simply KILL LIGHTNING MCQUEEN??!"
    Audience: "No, we don... wait, what?"

    8:02 I think the perfect ending for a Monsters' Inc. sequel would be where Sully is old and worn out by the end, and he opens Boo's door to see if Boo is in her room. He notices a girl in the bed, but it's not Boo. So after being heartbroken Sully slowly turns around to walk out again, but trips on a toy, making a loud thud. This wakes up the girl, but instead of panicking or screaming, she sprints out of the room. The little girl comes back in with her mom, who stares in shock. Pure silence, up until the mom starts to cry and she says "Kitty?". Sully says "Hey, Boo" and the screen fades to black.

    • @ProMurda
      @ProMurda Před 7 lety +58

      Or even they could have made a sequel where Sully and Mike return to Boo's world where Boo is a teenager, but Mike and Sully's doorway to escape is broken. That would make up for a great story where Boo, Mike, and Sully are running from the government because they are monsters.

      That was tear jerking, but to be honest i don't think it's a good idea.
      Pixar movies constantly talk about learning to grow apart from your past, wouldn't it be a bit contradictory to have a movie basically saying to people that it's okay to stick to childish things, to believe in "monsters in your closet"? Hell, even while i was typing this, some movies came to my mind: Toy Story 2 with Woody having to choose between his glorious past and his new friends; Finding Nemo with Marlin trying to overcome his fear of the ocean that was a direct consequence of a trauma caused by his wife's death; The Incredibles which to be fair is a bit enthusiastic about the good ole days but still delivers strong messages about not letting the nostalgia take over your life, your family, etc; Ratatouille with the protagonist Remy having to deal with the loss of his family and the loss of his idol; WALL-E, i don't think i need to explain lol; UP that centers around that idea, etc etc

    Man I just really miss hand drawn Disney movies. They rely way too heavily on cgi now. Yes, it’s fun to look at how realistic the backgrounds are, and seeing the way they can make the characters move is amazing, but it will never have the same charm that the older hand drawn movies had. Looking at a beautiful scene and knowing that someone drew and painted that?? Hearing Walt Disney talk about how he struggled to make Peter Pan look like he was weightless????? There are so many intricacies and it just felt like they cared a lot more, rather than pumping out a generic movie and then a sequel a year later. Even when one of the hand drawn movies wasn’t great, you can tell that a lot of work and love went into it. I know that people work extremely hard on the cgi movies, too, but it would be nice to see Disney go back to its roots and make another hand drawn film.

    • @darkvixenkillu
      @darkvixenkillu Před 5 lety +4

      Yeah, I would LOVE to see a sequel to The Great Mouse Detective (especially the way Doug here is suggesting it) IF they had the original voice actors for Basil and Dr. Dawson. Granted I don't remember the actors names but come on. Basil was awesome and Dr. Dawson was great as his partner, if these two voice actors are still alive then AT LEAST you have to have Basil voiced by the same guy. I also would hope they stick to the original animation for the film (or at least as close as possible). Sadly I don't think Disney could pull it off these days (look at their other animated sequels, which i do like btw ...for the most part, but they just aren't on par with their original films.) Either they would fuck up the animation or go all cg on us (just plain !NO! on that. I mean come on if you start the original as hand drawn then have the balls to have the sequel hand drawn too) they would probably recast Basil with a total mismatch, or at least someone who gives a sub par performance compared to the original actor. Disney just doesn't seems to have the chops to match their really good original works anymore (at least not the hand drawn movies).

    • @suckypuckle9292
      @suckypuckle9292 Před 5 lety +1

      Nostalgic babble. Plenty of the same work goes into CG.
      Tangled though was made specially to emulate 2D animation in a CG space. They even invented new tech and programs to make it. It looks great.
      So they should do that.

    • @iprobablyforgotsomething
      @iprobablyforgotsomething Před 5 lety +1

      I fear that hand-drawing techniques will fade into obscurity with the rise of CGI until there simply aren't available any artists for non-CGI work, if trends keep going the way they are. I really hope Disney heeds our collective plea to return to old-school animations every handful of of films or so, or at least 1-2 every couple of years...

      Blame Princess and the Frog. That was their breaking point, it didn't too well at the box office like they were hoping as well as their other 2D animated film at the time Winnie the Pooh. When compared to the 3D animated films Disney, Dreamworks and even Pixar were putting out.
      I think even Tangled was originally going to be 2D but because of the lack of box office for 2D animated movies they made the film go to 3D.

      3D animation costs a lot more money than you may think, there is a long process between modelling to a final rigged character model, the environments all need to be modelled, composting and than the weeks of rendering out, all the fancy particle effects.
      And unlike 2D you need to constantly invest in new technology, software programs like Maya have to be paid for yearly, and you need a team of programmers for your bespoke software to stay up to date. And then every few years you need to upgrade your render farm. Frozen cost $120 million, Winnie the Pooh only cost $30 million.
      The only 3D animation that is cheap, would be the stuff you see on TV.

OK cheating here, but with the success of LOTR, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones, you'd think someone would have the balls to do the dark 80's fantasy right, just fix a majority of the mistakes of the film, but keep the good stuff which mostly was John Hurt as the Horn King and how creepy the skeleton army was.

The plot was Mike and Sully go through Boo's door one day wanting to wish her a happy birthday, they have a present and everything. But when they arrive they see an old woman in her bedroom and learn she moved away. Worse they get trapped in the human world, and while Mike tries to find a way back, Sully tries to find Boo and starts wondering if he even wants to go back home

    Personally I liked Little Mermaid 2 and Lion King 2. But I would have preferred to see a sequel to Melody Times instead of that Atlantis sequel. (Which is a shame cause the first movie is one of my all-time favorite movies).Also have been waiting years for Narnia's 'The Silver Chair'. On terms of the original Robin Hood, Ivanhoe is a good way to make the sequel since Robin Hood is a protoganist in the novel. That makes room for new villains and Ivanhoe can be a protegee of sorts for Robin. Maybe Rowena can be his daughter since all they mention about her parents is that they were descendants of King Alfred. Either way the Walter Scott gives us plenty of new characters that can be reintroduced to the public so Disney could cash in on that.

It would've been about Mike & Sulley dropping by Boo's room to wish her a happy birthday, only to discover that somebody different is sleeping in Boo's room. It seems that Boo and her family have moved since Mike and Sulley last visited her. Sulley is so determined to see Boo again that he and Mike venture out in the human world in order to find her. Once Mike and Sulley cross over into the human world, they then aren't allowed to return to Monstropolis until they actually reunite with Boo. It would also include an older Boo trying to hide Mike and Sulley from other people.

    • @ASliceOfGamingPodcast
      @ASliceOfGamingPodcast Před 7 lety +36

      You're probably in the minority, since the only reason Disney ditched 2D animation was because they weren't making as much money as their 3D animated movies.
      If their last 2D animated movies Princess and the Frog and Winnie The Pooh were successful, movies like Tangled and Frozen would have been 2D. At least that's what I read.

    • @thecinematicmind
      @thecinematicmind Před 7 lety +37

      There's a reason why Winnie The Pooh didn't do well. It's because it opened the same day as Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and the fact the film never got much marketing.

    • @ASliceOfGamingPodcast
      @ASliceOfGamingPodcast Před 7 lety +16

      The Cinematic Mind Yeah that was kind of a death sentence putting it up against the last Harry Potter movie. I mean I can see Disney's logic, Winnie the Pooh is more of a little kids movie, parents might have taken their little ones to see that while all the older kids went to go see Harry Potter. But still, what excuse did Princess and the Frog have?

    • @creativevisiongaming
      @creativevisiongaming Před 7 lety +6

      It has nothing to do with films being 2D or 3D animation. Almost all the the 2D animated films after Hercules were awful. The princess and the frog had a few good moments but overall it was not a very good movie and Winnie the Pooh is normally markets towards little kids and people typically like the cuteness of it but don't really think the films are all that great.
      So yeah if Princess and the Frog was a better movie, like tangled or frozen, then it would have been more successful. Point is we don't really know if Tangled or Frozen would have been less successful as 2D because it took Disney a long time to start making good movies again.
      However some movies like Zootopia are probably better off as 3D.

    • @rachelstarkey6673
      @rachelstarkey6673 Před 7 lety +36

      Ya, but the thing I liked about 2D animation is that every movie looked different. You could tell that it was its own little universe because they all had their own unique style. Now, all of the CG movies like Tangled, Frozen, and Zootopia look like they're all in the same universe. It doesn't bring out the originality that Disney so perfectly mastered. The effects of CG don't look as impressive as the 2D animation did. Part of what made movies like The Lion King or The Little Mermaid so great is that they took the extra mile to single handily draw out every tiny detail down to over 8 million bubbles in The Little Mermaid. It looked better because you knew it was a cartoon. Cartoons represent childlike wonder and imagination. Now, it looks more unimaginative and bland. I know CG brings out more cash than 2D animation, but to reference the Nostalgia Critic in his review of The Cat In The Hat, he stated that what the public wants isn't always what the public needs.

  • @Altoryu
    @Altoryu Před 6 lety +14

    A new Fantasia could work since they don't really have a narrative do they? Just a bunch of short stories set to music , so just make a bunch of new stories and cut out all the celebrity bullshit and it could work.
    Robin Hood I am not that sure about since is there much to be had there? I mean sure the kids angle is possible but it could easily turn into a 101 Dalmatians 2 or Lady and the Tramp 2. Don't make a 'The heroes from the first have kids and they have adventures' narrative unless you have a solid story to use with it.
    Never seen Basil but from what I understand he is basically a mouse Sherlock Holmes so it could work, could even borrow from a few famous cases too, changing it as they need to make it kid friendly.
    Alice I don't have much investment in so I'm gonna skip this.
    Inside Out is definitely a film you could make a sequel out of as Riley explores the transition from kid to teen and I suppose if they did it right they could even make a third exploring her transition to being an adult. But one thing I want to note is new emotions is probably out of the question since they have already shown that both kids and adults have the same 5 emotions. It's just the combination of those 5 that communicate other emotions.
    I agree, who the hell thought that Monsters University would be a good idea? The characters were already well established in Monsters Inc so a sequel would have been better then that 'prequel' we got.
    Enchanted I never watched either so I got no comment on it.

  • @grantbaugh2773

    But would we actually be satisfied with any of these sequels? Honestly, the concept of Little Mermaid 2 is interesting, where we have Ariel who received her dream of being on land, but now her daughter wants to go to the sea. It wasn't that they lacked opportunities to explore, it's how those stories were handled that made most of them underwhelming. So even though movies like Inside Out don't have sequels planned (at least not yet), there's a very good chance that it would flop despite having every opportunity to be great.

    Surprised that Doug left out Treasure Planet. One of the MANY overlooked Disney films treasure planet was an amazing retelling of the classic story Treasure Island that not only stayed true (somewhat) to the source material but added a new dynamic that helped the plot in so many ways. It was quite literally a home run that somehow just didn't make as much money as it should've. I mean how could it have failed, it had Space, it had family, it had pirates. TWO OF THOSE WICH SHOULDVE BEEN PLENTY TO GET KIDS TO SAY SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY. But let's not forget the beautiful mix of CG and hand drawn animation. Like Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast, ect ect, treasure planet showed that when done right it can really help your movie. Every scene spent on the ship was realized fully by this technique, making viewers feel like the characters are on an actual ship and not a cardboard cutout. Just wanted to point that out.

      That movie was totally torpedoed by the studio to create the excuse to eliminate 2d. The advertising was nearly non-existant, and what little there was have away the story This is Disney! Does that sound like an honest mistake? Disney doesn't do things like that by accident! It was freaking nominated for an academy award and everyone was stunned because they didn't realize Disney had even released anything at all that summer!
      And to anyone whining about how corporations only care about money and it's totally impossible for them to have put so much cash into a film only to let it fail...keep in mind that businesses will often make investments, and that's what this was. They were discharging a debt to two of their best directors while creating the narrative necessary to justify abandoning their roots in favor of a medium they felt was an opportunity to print their own money. As such an investment, that was chump change.

    • @HarveyRequiem
      @HarveyRequiem Před 5 lety

      My god, yes, this! Time was I could tell at a glance which studio did what. They were all good, but had a uniqueness from one another, and Disney was at the very top of the mountain in that front. No one was like Disney, no one could ever be quite like it.
      Now I literally can't tell one studios work from.another. For example, my nieces turned on Coco and I was shocked to find it was Disney, because I thought it was Dreamworks. Once, I would have staked my life on my ability to tell you if it was Disney, WB, Dreamworks,Don Bluth...niw, I don't even want to try and guess because they all look.identical.
      And before some cgi 3d snob starts in on how I clearly don't know what im talking about and am just an old person whining...I have two degrees in animation, the majority of this education being focused on 3d. I have modelled, textrured, rigged, and animated, as one would easily see if they checked my uploaded videos. So I know exactly what I'm talking about when I say that 3d is not and will never be the same as 2d. Which wouldn't be a problem if 3d wasn't so insolvent on eliminating the existence of the hand drawn medium. Hell, look at what was accomplished in Treasure Planet, with the first 5d character Silver! If only the studio hadn't torpedoed that movie so they could have more excuses to eliminate the medium,there could have been even more amazing and uniquely Disney innovation over the years.

Plenty of Disney Animation's other recent films quickly got shorts and even series, but despite how much of a hit Zootopia was, all it's gotten are little books and comics, and there are absolutely no official signs of a sequel. In fact, the two remaining directors are busy with a new film called Encanto.
    Anyway, I'm sure we'll get something eventually. We only properly saw five of the twelve districts in the film; what other kinds of districts are there? They had ideas for things like an underground nocturnal district during development, and just imagine what else we could see! There's also plenty more that can be done with our leads and how they can develop themselves and their relationship (and yes, I do think that a romance could have potential, because it could be quite unique and cute, and cover a lot of themes). There's also the other ideas that can be explored with the setting; as I said, a relationship between our leads could bring up the topic of loving who you want to, and who knows what the villain could fight for. Perhaps it's a predator anarchist who sees Zootopia's promise as a lie and wants to go back to the wild square one because it'd be better for everyone. Also, I really want to see more of Nick's family and past. I'd like to finally meet his mother, and also learn who his father is (who was originally supposed to be a major character).

    I think a CG Remake of Robin Hood would be cool. And I would love to see a sequel to Monsters Inc and Inside Out. I have to agree with Doug on Monsters University, I didn't like it either.
    And it's throwing a wild card here: imagine if they remade Robin Hood with the Cast of Zootopia?

      Well, the only thing I liked about MU was the fact that it showed at least ONE way as to why Randal HATES Mike and Sully. Other that that, I could've lived without that movie.

    I actually came up with a basic idea for Robin Hood 2. After the passing of Richard John returns to the throne, rescinds the pardon on Robin, captures Maid Marian and Robin's children with an ultimatum. Wither he gives himself up for execution or they will take his place.
    Yes I know, dark.

      That and the xerox process which led to more of the finer lines being picked up and giving a specific look to the films made in that generation. I also love that sketchy look. It just adds something to the film.
