I know that everyone probably gonna talk about Stede and Ed but I’d like to appreciate Izzys’ beautiful singing and that he finally gets along with the crew 😭♥️
Izzy is our unicorn and I'm so happy he got to shine! His arc is incredible this season.
Yeah I’m glad Izzy found his calling, he turns his misery into music, his pain into power, and I like that the show demonstrates how being queer helps the pirates express themselves freely, like drag.

Izzy's character development became my absolutely favorite and probably maybe more. He gets along with the crew he once hated and they accept and love him too 😭 He sounds FREE
Right? Like he is such an asshole but he’s our asshole. He’s so mean about everything but he’s so mean about it and such a sweet way. He just wanted to be a drag queen unicorn, that’s all he ever wanted to be. With that ever too much to ask? I don’t think so. This man singing has healed my ever being.
The fact that he is so specifically singing that song about the crew has me sobbing. His character development is fucking top notch

Izzy singing thissong in his drag makeup means so much to me; truly queer healing
It's not just drag makeup. It's specifically an homage to Edith Piaf, who sang an original version. She wore her eyebrows like that.

From an interview with the makeup artists:
"We had to try several eyebrows. Con kept insisting that this had to look beautiful, it was very important to him. And the eyebrows are very obvious, so they couldn't be evil eyebrows, or funny eyebrows. We settled on something quite soft, in the end, that he suggested, and he really liked them like this".
I haven't seen anyone else who noticed it was an homage to Piaf and I'm so happy you caught it!

yes.. yes!!!! Izzy didn't need to die at all, he was the character with more growth without changing who he is. Ed and even Stede became somewhat toxic to eachother and the others but who they kill? My beloved Izzy.

I was sure his arc to regain the respect of the crew was leading to him taking charge and having a most loyal and welcoming team to do so with. Would have LOVED to have watched into season 3 and had the chance to witness Izzy getting the queer love his poor heart needs just as Ed and Stede did. And maybe pay a visit back to the inn to visit, he brings the crew to help them rebuild the inn, something like that. Ugh.
i would have loved if the season ended here. Ed and Stede basically finally showing their love to each other, the crew getting along with each other in a celebration, Izzy in his queer healing and earning the respect and love from the crew, freeing himself. Why did the season have to end like THAT instead?

Yeah every Broadway fan was waiting for a moment like this as soon as we saw Con O’Neill on screen in S1. It would have been a crime to NOT have him sing at some point.

I was just thinking how easy it would be to turn a scene like this into something comical (given how the media treated this kind of scenes in the past). But it's not comical at all. Because they decided that Izzy's redemption arc and healing should end by him dying apologizing to his abuser and saying that with him dead, Ed is free to be happy. And that the crew (whom he tormented and didn't even make amends with) loved Ed, instead of acknowledging they love Izzy because Izzy was the one who put in the effort to build a relationship with them. They brought back all of his self hatred and suicidal tendencies too. There's no funeral and they not only bury him on land but in Ed and Stede's front yard after ripping off his prosthetic to mark the grave. Somehow Jenkins maintains this was a "kind" ending.
Con insisted so hard 😭 he said "it can't be funny; it needs to be beautiful" before deciding on the makeup and shooting it

Honestly Izzy is becoming one of my absolute favourites this season. I love him becoming friends with the crew and finally starting to be happy and free of the toxicity his end Ed’s relationship created.
How Izzy went from the most frustrating character in season 1 to my favorite character in season 2, I don't know. But I stand with Hands 💕

I love the little moment of Izzy kissing Wee John's hand. So cute!
And if you look closely in the background at :44, you will see that Wee John is cradling Izzy to his chest, while Izzy sings "when you hold me to your heart". There's a whole little sub-story, I think. Wee John does Izzy's makeup and gets his hand kissed, along with some cuddling while Izzy sings. I only wish that story had been able to last longer.

Gods, as an older NB I was worried about the beginning of this scene (especially because Mx. O'Niell and I have deeper voices), but then the episode celebrated the many ways of everyone supporting each other. And beyond that, let us sing and see La Vie En Rose. Thank you.

Love how a show took a whole season to explain to us that this is a man to be hated and want dead- to then in the next season, in the /first/ episode, make us love him and see the parts of him worth loving.

Can't you admit that the character you love was a Nightmare? The man who loved him and the writers could. he was such an asshole in season 1, and his development in season 2 was such a welcome surprise. I love a lot about this episode-- the look on Izzy's face in the mirror with Wee John, going shopping for party stuff, everyone's fancy party threads, THIS SONG, ugh it's all so good. I love that Izzy got to have this moment, like it wasn't just a one-off when the crew protected him from Ed, they really do love him. I'm sure it wasn't just Ed who thought he was unlovable, and look, they were both wrong :)
