  • If you've ever wondered how to sublimate a tumbler in a convection oven, this video is for you! With the right materials, the sublimation process is actually quite easy. We combined a couple of designs from Design Bundles to create this sublimation graphic, printed it out on A-Sub sublimation paper and then use the shrink wrap / shrink sleeve sublimation method to give that extra pressure. Once the tumbler was ready, we popped it in the convection oven for 6 minutes total at around 365 degrees, turning once after 3 minutes.
    We were really curious how the sublimation would work on a shimmer tumbler, and we are thrilled with the results. The shimmer shows through the sublimation ink so well! For full disclosure, Johnson Plastics Plus provided us with this tumbler for free. We LOVE it, as well as all of the other blanks we've purchased from them. Me Again :) Binging y'all videos and so happy to find someone who uses photoshop -- I creep, screenshot, and zoomed in on your photoshop settings :D
    In one video you print settings for photoshop were "Printer managers colors, printer profile, Relative Colorimetric," In another video I noted you all have "Photoshop Managers Color, (I think the printer profile was set below this?), Saturation.
    Can you please advise what photoshop settings you use, I've used so many supplies testing different settings.
    Also, do you alter any of color adjustments in the actual "print settings" for the printer? Hoping to get more vibrant colors like yall. Thanks!!!
    lastly, any shrink wraps you all recommend that are available on amazon? I heard some of the ones on Amazon stick to the cups! Thanks again, your new fan! :)

    • @JustMightDIY
      @JustMightDIY  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey! All great questions. We haven't intentionally changed our Photoshop settings. We did do a big Photoshop update a few months ago (after we realized that the auto updates had turned off), but we do not use any color profiles. The only thing we play with is the Printer Settings - ensuring that we're printing on Best Quality and typically Premium Presentation Paper Matte (or its equivalent) depending on the printer model's associated print drivers.
      We'd highly recommend increasing the saturation, vibrancy, etc. of the image before you print to see if you can get it to come out the way you like. Also, to avoid wasting so many sublimation blanks, grab some cheap 100% polyester fabric to test on and use small designs so you can get multiple tests out of one piece of paper (we will cut ours down and do custom print sizes if we're printing on a partial sheet).
      As for your shrink wrap question, we get ours from Johnson Plastics Plus, so we haven't tried any from Amazon. However, even the ones we get will stick to the cups. Make sure you're covering the entire cup where the wrap will be with butch paper, and you can avoid that problem.
      Hope this helps!

    This is awesome! If you don’t have a full wrap and just need a logo etc, do you still need a full shrink wrap sleeve? In other words, could the logo sub be placed on the tumbler and position the tumbler in the oven horizontally with the graphic facing up and let gravity do its thing? Or is pressure required?

    • @JustMightDIY
      @JustMightDIY  Před rokem

      Hey! Pressure is essential for sublimation. You could use a lot of tape instead though. Remember that if you use a shrink sleeve, to make sure that the entire area is covered with blowout paper so that the plastic does not touch the tumbler itself. Happy crafting!

    • @JustMightDIY
      @JustMightDIY  Před rokem +1

      First thought is checking for color profile for your machine / sublimation ink combo. Second is double checking the image to make sure it's colors are correct. Third is knowing your heat application is truly to the correct temperature. Under temp may not finish activating the color and over can cook it.
      Try unsubbing the tumblers that aren't right and reuse them until it gets right

      Hi and thanks for watching! All sublimation blanks, including glass, need to have a special sublimation coating on them. JPP has some great sublimation glass products - check them out (discount code is in the description).

      Hey! We recommend measuring your tumbler and adjusting the template as needed. There can be small differences between different brands of blanks.

    Can I just use my convection microwave? I works just like an oven to bake with but the plate does rotate.

      @JustMightDIY  Před 2 lety

      Hey! Thanks for your question. We haven’t tried that, so we can’t say for sure. The common belief in the community is that you shouldn’t sublimate in something you cook food with though.

    • @JustMightDIY

      Also, and this might go without saying, but we wanted to reiterate, you shouldn’t put metal in a microwave…

      @JustMightDIY  Před 3 lety

      Hey! It depends on the tumbler, as it seems that they’re all a little different. This shimmer tumbler has a slight taper to it. We prefer using the templates that Johnson Plastics plus uses (opening them in Photoshop and then cropping them down so they’ll print, as they’re pretty large with the instructions.
