- There are only a handful of C1 cars left in service (of fleet used to stand at 150 just a few years ago). I've written about the C1 car story here: bartcars.weebly.com/c1-cars.html. Generally, C1 cars can be found on some Green and Blue line trains.
This video goes through each consist with C cars during the late morning and midday on 4/21/2023, plus a couple other days. There are plenty of exterior clips, interspersed with clips of riding most of these same cars. These cars are not far off from retirement and scrapping/preservation, so this video covers some of the bread-and-butter scenes that will be no more some time soon.
This video will serve as the April 2023 monthly scene video, probably.

I will never forget the buzzing sound these cab cars make when they accelerate
Funky door chime on 449. it was high pitched in one clip and then went to be low pitch in another
Clip with 449 as the lead car is the chime for 449. The door chime is transmitted throughout the train from the lead car
C1 car 350 is my favorite because I’ve ridden it more than once.
Are the Westinghouse motors on the C cars louder than the ones on the A and B cars were prior to the refurbishment? Seems like in the few videos of BART I've seen from the 90s, they only make the buzzing sound when they first start moving.
The buzzing you're hearing on the C cars is the motor controller, not the motor itself. From what I could see online, the A and B cars had the same kind of controller (Westinghouse Chopper) that the C cars had before refurbishment(IGBT).
C1 373 has been scrapped, I don't know about 387.

Looks like they might of retired the last remaining ones. I haven’t seen any in service for the last week or so.
Indeed, IIRC the last day for scheduled service was Monday 5/15. I'm not holding my breath that the remaining few will return to service (scrapping has resumed), but I know at least one will be preserved (holding for Western Railway Museum)
I rode Bart today and I was in the old C car.
Remember the car number?
Are the C1 still running or are they gone like C2
Some are. They actually wanna get rid of those ones first so they can have the original ones A class ones still in service for awhile before they go completely.
I counted about 15 rolling in service yesterday. Correct, plans are to have just A and B cars as the final legacy cars left in revenue service (sort of like how it was back in the 1970s).
BTW, no need to call them by class - it's just “A cars” (or “A2 cars” if you want to be technical) at BART. But, I do recognize other systems outside of BART call their own vehicles by a specific class. :)
@@ATPTransit hey do you have any videos with Trains that have two different end cars? Like a train with an A car as the front car and the tail car being a c car and vice versa?
@@catvoncrimson666 His May 2023 video has and one other example is from his early 2022 series and the one with 319 departing Fremont
@@krishnanramakrishnan76 oh ok thanks! I’ll check it out.
Which C car train has that very deafenind air horn?
All A and C cars have/had an air horn, but it was rarely used
@@ATPTransit to be honest, I don’t even know why it exist because it literally deafens my ears.
It's to alert workers by the tracks and people standing too close to the edge of the platform.
@@ATPTransit honestly, they could do those things where they have subway platform doors. Basically, the platform doors prevent passengers from going onto the tracks. Also, passengers should be able to listen or at least watch.
@@TheBestiesTeam2022 It's an old system, it was probably done before platform doors were made. You'd be surprised with how some people dont pay attention
