Kid Rock met Hank Williams Jr. on the set of a show called Crossroads, where they picked two artists from different genres and they sang each others songs. Kid Rock told Hank Jr. that he knew every word to every Hank Williams Sr. song. Hank Jr. didn't believe him, but he proved he did. And Hank Jr. said you know more than I do. Best friends since.

Writes his own lyrics and even writes the actual music for alot of his music. He is the last of generation of true artists. Not like today where someone with a half decent voice shows up to a studio, sings someone else's words into a mic, and then gets their voice edited

I know it has special meaning for a lot of y'all so not gonna rain on your parade it's just not for me. I was in love with that man early in his career. Saw him at music midtown perform right before his career took off. He was standing on the side stage watching Ben Harper before he went on. Bawitdaba video had just hit. Once he flipped to country he got sloppy looking to me and can't stand the attitude with it. Still look back fondly on who I thought he was. Well I damn sure never expected what I've seen since. I feel like when this song came out the “80’s” hair band rocker fans were growing up and moving into country music. Country music in the 90s felt more like bluesy rock. Like it’s audience was growing up, they still liked guitars and drums they just wanted more substance. While grunge was good and we still liked it, country music had more soul.
I was a 80s hair band and pop music girl. I personally stayed with enjoying grunge longer than many of my friends who were transitioning to country music. Then I met my husband… at a bar. He was wearing a cowboy hat and boots. I was still dating my “grunge boyfriend” at the time although it was a very rocky relationship. As soon as I met that cowboy I knew he was my life partner.
My husband LOVES 70s and 80s rock but as the 90s approached much like a lot of us he transitioned to 90s country. This particular song was a crossover and played on both country, pop and rock stations. As grunge took over rock you would see several hair band artist dabbing into country.

Kid Rock is amazing! I have never seen another artist since Elvis be able to cross genres and make it work. If you ever get a chance to see Kid Rock live go see him. He puts on an amazing show. My boyfriend and I have seen him twice now in concert. And he doesn't charge out the rear end for his tickets they're $20 a person. He believes in letting people have cheap tickets so they still have money in their pockets to be able to live on and pay their bills. And each city that he plays in that has a children's hospital he donates the proceeds from his show to the children's hospitals. Not many artists would do that.

I don't think I ever told either of my parents, but both my mom and dad said this song reminded them of the other. They separated when I was 5, but even 15 years later, my mom told me she should have changed for Dad. She went to her grave loving him. He followed her, cancer, some years later, and he told me it was always special to have me close, a part of mama who was with him to the very end. He wasn't my biological father, but was there from day 1. It still guts me to hear this song and think that their love never really went away. They never healed from losing the other. I'm 10 years married to my husband and strive every day to make whatever positive changes I need to in order to avoid that pain they felt. Not to put it off, because even one day too long and I could lose him. That would devastate me.

    Funny Sheryl Crow story....
There uesd to be a venue in San Diego called "4th & B". Started out as a downtown "upscale" bank back when they made swanky banks. It's was converted to an intimate single stage venue with some balcony seating. Worst seats in the house were only about 25 yards from the stage. My buddy Bret (name not changed for maximum ribbage) was crazy about Sheryl Crow and ends up seeing one of her shows at 4th & B. Bret's dancing and singing along and suddenly throws his head back like he's going to howl at the lights. At the very second, the band stops playing and Bret yells out at the top of his lungs "I LOVE YOU, SHERYL!!". To his ever lasting enjoyment, she laughingly calls back "I LOVE YOU TOO!!". Not my buddies most embarrassing moment by any stretch, but probably his finest.
