Should have spread straw on that grass. Birds will eat the seed and with heavy rain can wash the seed away. Water it twice a day till it comes up. Usually 7 to 10 days.
I had a thought that maybe you could put an outdoor hose bib near the new barn so if you need to use a hose or pressure wash or water the new seed you can do that easily. Thanks for the video. Love seeing all the new things going on around the farm.
Every thing looks great! You guys have worked very hard for this new barn, curtains, and pasture for the cows too. Amazing work. Bale shredder looks like it helps. Love how the cows 🐄 dance in the new bedding - they seem so happy. Makes for good milk 🥛. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing your daily dairy life. God bless!!
Nice video. That bale shredder is pretty neat. Just a suggestion, you could use your other skid loader to load the bales into the shredder while leaving the shredder on the Kaubota.
Excellent video. Bale shredder/spreader should be worth purchasing. Just keep that grass constantly moist with sprinklers until it germinates and it will be fine.
Years ago I modified a shredder by adding a joystick controlled reversing solenoid to each hydraulic motor. The joysticks allowed individual manual control with the intent to sort out a reliable automatic sequence of operation. Their daughter got so good with the joysticks that a timed pulse setting on the PTO was all the additional automation I could talk them into. Your shredder can be much more civilized.
I saw that when you tried to shred the first bale you "unrolled" it basically, so maybe you could consider the "wrapping direction" (the direction, in which the straw layers of the bale were wound when creating the bale) and then try to load the bale once in one direction and once in the opposite, and see which way gets you the best results when shredding it.
That is a great idea. Probably talking to the designer might be worthwhile. I saw your same observations, and was thinking the hydraulics were put in backward. I think just running it so the top knives rotate toward the machine would keep the bale in the box. But Eric was saying he was running it back and forth. I guess the angle of the box might have an effect also. This may take a while....
I was noticing the same thing and wondered about the direction of the roll, new designs take some work to get the kinks out, still looks like an awesome machine
Seems to me to be more trouble than it's worth. You already had the bale on the loader to bring it outside. Seems like he could have just taken it inside the barn and kick it apart faster than it takes to load that contraption.
Well you guys did a great job spreading bales & getting ready to sell the railings. I love watching the cows 🐄 when they hop about in their new bedding
Perhaps, consult with the shredder maker and see if the knife rolls can rotate in alternate direction in adjacent rolls. That is one roll clockwise and the next counter clockwise. That might keep the bale from jumping around. Also make the blades shorter for less aggressiveness. Just some ideas. Keep up the good work! JIM
The Hoover looks new and has not yet been used. I hope he helps you out with your work well. I think your facility is very beautiful and well-kept. You don't always see that, not even in Bavaria.
I like the attachment for spreading the hay out. Can I make one suggestion. Try it lower to the ground it might reduce the dust. As always but another excellent video. Keep them coming please.
Hoover really did break up the hay. Will be interestingly hear your thoughts in a month or so. Your have really accomplished so much in the last 5-6 months. And all this on top of your everyday chores. Congratulations on jobs well done.
..... Observation: Maybe 2 of those "augers" should be set up to turn in opposite direction... CW,CCW, CW, CCW...this would avoid almost tossing the bale out of the unit on start up...or having to "rock" bale back and forth....
Hmmm... you are the ONLY one (so far) that spotted that !! I had to search all ti see how many , and SURPRISE just you (and me) got it !! (just reverse the hoses)
8:41 Would it be better to stand the bails on end or load them longitudinally ? Either orientation would prevent the bails spinning one would think ....
Good product and good people, we have the first one he built, Eric would bring it back to test it when he was designing them, does a good job at shredding fodder bales! Also found it best to unwrap the bales agains a wall when doing it yourself and scoop em into it!
This may sound better in my head, and doesn’t sort out getting the netting off the bales. But instead of taking the bales completely out of the storage barn, you could roll them down the new ramp y’all had poured and straight into the spreader in one motion 🤷🏽♂️ just my initial thought for loading
I bet if you picked up the bail like you would stick a spatula under some over easy eggs, real quick, it might go in better and without help. Downside it might push the bail away real fast.
I know it’s a increased/added expense but I would definitely go with sawdust/wood shaving to bed that barn. I know it makes sense to use the stubble bales since it’s a by-product but they have little to no absorbency characteristics. I’m no big authority on this but have been in a similar situation. There’s a lot of different ways and materials to create a productive bed pack if you will.
If every other hydraulic motor on the Hoover spins in opposite directions they will counteract each other and keep the bales from getting yeeted out of the unit?
I’m not positive but I’m pretty sure you can use the bail spike to load the bail in it and then just tie the strings to the part that connects to the skid steer
Suggestion for your Hover, put a strap in the middle that you could put around the bail and your dad would not have to strain to get the bail into the thing!!! Drill a hole on each side and put an adjustable strap for different size bails!! It should work great!!!...Dave
Not a farmer myself. Hope one day to own at least 5 acres here in Central Florida to be able to use some of it to farm on. Love the videos as always. I am guessing y’all are in the same boat as the Midwest and western states going through a drought. Pray that all of y’all get some much needed rain. I know Zach, Tony “Fast Ag” and Welker farms need the rain we are getting here in Florida.
Hey Eric, perhaps a silly obervation, but would adding the round bales in the opposite roll rotation drag the bale in the shredder rather than spit it out? im not a farmer, just a fan. Greetings from Netherlands
Sometimes the power tools are slower than hand work. I can spread a football field with over seed rye in short order and toss fertilizer the same way. I then top dress with sand and mulch with a manure spreader. Add water, get grass. Bob
We built a new pack barn for our dry cows in 2018, and use a Teagle straw chopper to bed, it works well, but isn't built heavy enough, it is almost beat after 3 years.
Everyday chores plus extra projects. Busy days. Thanks for showing us the progress you’re making.

Tell the father he does a great job on the camera ! Great video as always.
I love that bale spreader!!! All the improvements are phenomenal, guys! Excellent work.
You haven't been finding any drinks lately. Getting worried that you might be dehydrated.
Seeing those cows do their little happy jumps will never get old

A farmer’s work is never ending. A producer, carpenter, plumber, landscaper, demolition crew. Thank you 🇺🇸
Your range of skills is amazing!

That bale buster needs a top grapple to make loading a one man operation. Looks awfully hard to see over/under/around, though.
Just put the bales against the barn and scoop away. Visibility through the underside is probably better than what the camera picks up.
I agree. I think I would return that thing if I had that option
Or the other skid steer...
Yeah, it's not worth the extra trouble. He could have just brought in there and kicked it apart faster.

You guys never stop. Everything always getting better. Thank you for sharing.
Man. I had ear buds in and those fly sounds at the end had me swatting the air lol. Great video
I love your outros. Just done, nothing fancy just end it 😆
Well you guys did a great job spreading bales & getting ready to sell the railings. I love watching the cows 🐄 when they hop about in their new bedding

Kinda surprised we didn't find a random Mt Dew in the bedding.
Hi, this is a nice piece of work!!! Question, is this bedding type better than the cow mattresses that we are using here in Africa?
I like the new attachment. You and your Dad will get the hang of it.
strawchopper/blower with a shoot straight from the feeding passage would be a lot more efficient in my opinion.
I think a straw chopper will hop blow the straw plus the manure should come out easier & break up better
For spreading out the bales in the pack i would recommend tub busting them then using the skid loader and bucket to spread it out
Straw machine was doing a tidy job! Time for a loader tractor to drop the bales in ;) Brilliant video 💪🏻🏴
That bale spreader is a pain!
This is going to look really nice once the grass appears
Wait! You left us hanging with the post that needs to hold the roof up!
The new hay spreader seems to be working out ok. The future plans for the new barn sound good.
Dont know really why I love watching this guy but I do love it
Me too. So relaxed. Great production despite it being a simplified layout.
I would think with the number subscribers you have he will give you a tremendous discount on that fancy machine. You are one awesome dude young man!
That Hoover is a genius idea!
I can just imagine all the windshield cleaner that's gonna go into cleaning that skid loader
You could always use both skid steers for the new Hoover
Seems hay shredder going to be a good tool
Always find new things to share with us, cool. Keep it up!
I hope that's the Penn State Blend of grass. It makes great lawns.
Excited about your progress. God bless you & Dad.
LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS ERIC
As usual, a great video. Love seeing the new barn getting some good use. Thanks.
I like the attachment for spreading the hay out. Can I make one suggestion. Try it lower to the ground it might reduce the dust. As always but another excellent video. Keep them coming please.
Put square bales around your drain so mud can’t go in your drain will help 👍
Hoover really did break up the hay. Will be interestingly hear your thoughts in a month or so. Your have really accomplished so much in the last 5-6 months. And all this on top of your everyday chores. Congratulations on jobs well done.
We agree Eric...
I’d recommend some starter fertilizer to help aid in the grass seed growing project. As as licensed applicator I will take a lot for it to take off.
The grass will look great there!! Thanks for the video Eric was very enjoyable 🙋♀️😊

Worth a try.....
...or some combination....outer ones rotating inward and inner one s rotating outward
Spin the bails 90° when you load them
Your old man is wearing boots and not crocs!!
Suggest you put a couple posts in as a backstop for the round bales, to keep them from rolling while loading the spreader.
or just use the wall
@@seimonlloyd4234 suggested the posts as to not damage the wall. Thought of the wall first.
8:41
Would it be better to stand the bails on end or load them longitudinally ?
Either orientation would prevent the bails spinning one would think ....
It's good you buy your stuff locally when you can, I guess it helps the local economy.
To finish we need to replace this post to hold up this roof! Cheers all. 🇨🇦

Hoover spreader looks good Eric. You should try some bales of wheat straw through it, will be a lot less dust
I see with all the comments about Dad and his Crocs that he decided to switch up and put boots on.
Steel toed crocs
I came here for this comment 😂
I would say that depends on the job
This may sound better in my head, and doesn’t sort out getting the netting off the bales.

Love to see a father and son working together like you do
Getting the bales into the bin is a bit of a challenge
Looks like he got pretty close to the rafters when he lifted up the header
I know it’s a increased/added expense but I would definitely go with sawdust/wood shaving to bed that barn. So nice for you to share some of your work with us. Thank you.
New gizmos are fun to learn. Worth it if it lessens the load
Cut that one off quickly. Lol. Love the new barn
New barn looks good!
From the title I initially read this as 'beheading Heifers" and was scared. Glad I re-read it.
This machine pretty good tho
You and your dad do amazing work. Thanks very much for sharing.
Excellent ...is this our hoover vacuum company,,? ,great video of father and son getting jobs done together...
Great awesome video Eric; love the new shredder , I’m sure u can turn down the hydraulic flow to not throw it out so much , it will work much better
Eric you and Dad rock it!!!!
Thanks for taking us along Eric.
If every other hydraulic motor on the Hoover spins in opposite directions they will counteract each other and keep the bales from getting yeeted out of the unit?
That sounds pretty reasonable, may be able to just switch the hoses on every other motor. Good idea STONEDay!!
Try putting the bails in front of the wall of the storage barn to run it up in the spreader. To save back pain
For me the spectacle of somebody else working always has an irresistible fascination...
I could be wrong but those ''not knives'' actually look to me like sickle sections which actually are knives.
Does that bail ripper have a speed control of some sort on it? Looks like it might be a keeper.
Don't know why i love to watch all new stuff you show in video❤❤😁
Always love to see a new TGDF VIDEO
I’m not positive but I’m pretty sure you can use the bail spike to load the bail in it and then just tie the strings to the part that connects to the skid steer
They would break
That thing works good only thing is i would like one that i could put the hole big square bale in though.
Suggestion for your Hover, put a strap in the middle that you could put around the bail and your dad would not have to strain to get the bail into the thing!!! Drill a hole on each side and put an adjustable strap for different size bails!! It should work great!!!...Dave
A hole would hurt the structure of the hover and I think this is a test so I don’t think they own it
Great video, that bale spreader is pretty ingenious, thanks for being farmers
Another great well narrated informative video.
Not a farmer myself. Hope one day to own at least 5 acres here in Central Florida to be able to use some of it to farm on. Love the videos as always. The bake buster is like a flour sifter on a grand scale.
put s some drainage fabric covered with a lot of rocks, like rip rap around that drain so it does not silt in.
I haven't even watched the video yet and I hit the thumb up since I know it's gonna be a great video !!
Hey Eric, perhaps a silly obervation, but would adding the round bales in the opposite roll rotation drag the bale in the shredder rather than spit it out? im not a farmer, just a fan. Greetings from Netherlands

Nicer life for the cows to have meadow access for two thirds of the year. Good thinking 🧐
should try a insulation blower fore spreading the bedding. they pretty cheap and u just poi9nt the hose and go
Another awesome video thanks for sharing really appreciate god bless
Love your videos a lot of hard work yall do thanks for sharing
I think you should try to spreaf the bales with te manure spreader before you would condider buying the spredder. Nice video!
Awesome Video and Much Love as Always 🐄 Man!!!!
Just don't shred up Eric by accident in that spreader or lift the roof of the barn up with it......
lol on the card. love the video and the new barn
We built a new pack barn for our dry cows in 2018, and use a Teagle straw chopper to bed, it works well, but isn't built heavy enough, it is almost beat after 3 years.
My internet just ran out too, perfect timing!
