Thanks alot for such detailed information. 👍
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
Hopefully I can do a mix of Hospitalist and Urgent Care/ED work. Thanks for the video
That sounds like a good mix :)
Awesome!
Thanks!
would love to see more videos!!
Thank you! I’m definitely planning to make more 😉
Appreciate for your guidance
PGY 2 here
Can you guide more about compensation for inpt vs out pt in different areas, would Appreciate
It depends on the area you are interested in. You can find salary charts based on locations on google. I believe in general inpatient work pays higher than outpatient. Best of luck in your job search!
@@dr.lindsaymarie .
Nontrad in medical school here, hoping to secure an internal med residency and become a hospitalist, much respect to family medicine I'm not really into OB or caring for children.
Thanks for sharing. Good luck on your journey!
Wow you make 519 in fm well done, wouldn’t have thought that was possible
I didn’t sign up for that job but that was one of the offers I was given in an email. 🙂 It surprised me too!
@@dr.lindsaymarie Why?
The more didactic video that I've ever seen about this theme. Congrats !!
Thank you!! I hope it helped.
Great video
Thank you!!
Thank you Dr. Marie! I am going to start FM residency this summer. Could you please make a video and share your perspectives on what interns should and can do starting their first year if they know they want to do hospital medicine in metropolitan area after graduation? I heard that hospitals in metropolitan areas tend to prefer IM trained physicians, but is there anything FM trained physicians can do to boost their CV?
Hi and thanks for the question! I think the best thing you can do to prepare for hospital work as a FM resident is to get more experience. This would include moonlighting on shifts in the hospital if your residency allows that. I also recommend taking an elective(s) in ICU medicine and ask to learn procedures like central lines. Become close with the hospitalists in your residency and they can connect you to jobs after graduation! I’ve met so many nice docs along the way. It’s all about connections so don’t let the bias for IM residents scare you away from pursuing hospitalist work. Hope that helps. :)
@@dr.lindsaymarie thank you very much!

Great video! Thanks
I would like to know how is to do an emergency medicine fellowship as a family doctor :) tranks you!
Thank you. :) You apply for fellowship programs your 3rd year of residency. You would have to research various programs available to you. Good luck!
Hi.IMG here.I like your video a lot.you can give me good information about medical practice.
Thanks for commenting! I’m glad the video helps :)
Hi! Thanks so much for this video! It's very helpful. I am in med school considering family medicine. You mentioned here that FMs can work as hospitalist. I would like to do some hospitalist work, either full-time or part-time. I def like the hospital, but I have heard that it is usually very hard for family med physicians to find jobs as hospitalists because they usually give those jobs to internists. Is this true? How hard is it for a family med doc to work in a hospital?
Hi, great question. There may be some bias to hire IM for certain hospital groups. I believe it all depends on the area. I know residents I graduated with had no trouble getting hospitalist jobs. Also, you are more likely guaranteed a hospitalist position at the hospital you do your residency at since they know you there. (Of course as long as you are not a terrible resident with poor work ethic.) If you get some experience as a hospitalist at your residency hospital first, you should have no trouble finding other hospitalist positions in the future. Be sure you are asking these questions when you apply for your residency and pick one with strong hospital training. It makes all the difference. Good luck!
@@dr.lindsaymarie Got it. Thank you!!
thank youuuu
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching! :)
Urgent care enabled you to pay off your medical school loans in only 2 years!? Did you work throughout medical school or obtain scholarships?
I did not have any scholarships. My loans were $200,000. I put my entire paycheck except for my living expenses toward my loan every two weeks and that’s how I was able to pay it off. I made another video on the process of that if you want to check it out on my channel ☺️
After finishing Family medicine Residency How to become a Cosmetic medicine physician ?? Please say the road map for this!! ✨
Is it possible to do outpatient and work in the er (like part time on each) in family medicine?
I think you can make that work. You would just have to negotiate with each employer you worked for at each place to agree on the scheduling. 🙂 Good luck!
Can you work as a pediatrcian or psychiatry with a “degree in family medicine “?
In family medicine you can see pediatric patients or psychiatry patients, but if you want to only see those types of patients then you would want to complete a pediatric residency, or a psychiatry residency. 😊
Rular family medicine doctor earns 1.5 times than the regular. Is it correct?
Hi! This may be true, but it just depends on the area and the company/hospital group or practice you work for.
@@dr.lindsaymarie Thankyou
What platform please?
What do you mean by platform?
@@KoraineFall you are probably right! :) My Instagram is @dr.lindsay_marie
What about working in the ER
Yes! A family medicine doctor could choose to work in the ER too. :)
@@dr.lindsaymarie could you provide more insight on this? I thought it was just urgent care. So in the case of working in the ER would there need to be a fellowship completed? Also is this just for standalone ERs or ERs attached to hospitals?
@@ShesJustLivin Hi, great questions! Since I did not go this route I don’t know all the details but I believe there are multiple options. There is a one year EM fellowship you can do after a FM residency. Also I have heard of some people in FM moonlighting in an ER and getting in that way. Another route would be to work in a rural setting where ER doctors are much needed and they will hire you on as a FM doctor. It all just depends on the location but check in your area if you are interested what rules each hospital has. Good luck!

Hi doctor. Can you talk about part time jobs in Family Medicine?
Great suggestion! New videos are in the works. I will add this topic to the list. 😊

Hope you do on the part time jobs in FM in near future
That will help me for sure
@@pragna590 Hey, thanks for the reminder. I’m still planing on new videos, it’s just taking longer than I expected due to my busy schedule but if you have more specific questions about part time jobs feel free to message me on my Instagram @dr.lindsay_marie ☺️
4:00 I think things were already not so great in medicine, but ObamaCare only made it worse for doctors and patients.
Agreed. There are a lot of issues in healthcare. I try to make the best of it. Also, thanks for your comment on my intro video. I saw it but when I went to reply it wasn’t there.
@@dr.lindsaymarie Thanks! Oh yeah, I deleted it because I realized my comment wasn't helpful! Originally I just wanted to mention that it's possible to support yourself as a Christian medical missionary without needing to rely on donations (e.g. locums prn), but then I saw you already knew all this (and more) because you made a video about different jobs FPs can get. Which, by the way, thanks for your helpful video. (I only recently came across your CZcams channel so I wasn't familiar with your content, but I'll subscribe to your channel now because I appreciate your work.) So after I realized you already knew all this, I also realized there was no need for my comment. In any case, I do sincerely wish all the best and I hope you are able to become a Christian medical missionary and spread the good news of Jesus Christ to others for their good and God's glory! God willing, I've also thought about doing medical missions someday too.
@@stevehawke9819 no problem, thank you for the response! Ha, yes I have been blessed to do medical missions since 2007, then since 2015 I have been engaging in more non medical missions, and would love to do it long term but also still use my medical education and expertise. It’s been a fine balance and sadly there are a lot of travel restrictions now a days so I am doing what I can. That’s exciting you like missions as well! Do you also work in the medical field?
@@dr.lindsaymarie Thanks again, Lindsay Marie! I think what's good about FM is you have so many options to do so many different things (e.g. outpatient/PCP, inpatient/hospitalist/open ICU, urgent care, nursing home). Primary care seems super hot right now. Yeah, I'm in med too (although I'm older as a non-trad), but not FM. However I sometimes wish I had picked FM! It's a great specialty.
@@stevehawke9819 Oh nice, you are in medical school now or internal medicine?
