My Boat Trailer Needs Repair!

- Recently I found the wood inside the bunks on my eight year old boat trailer were rotting and broken under the carpeting. Some of the screws that hold the bunks even fell out from the rotting wood. Clearly my boat trailer is in need of repair and that is what I do here.
Come along to see how I do this repair so I can use the boat trailer because I have lots of fishing planned in the near future.

I had that same aw ha moment on my pontoon boat last year after I launched, luckily we were out for the weekend so I could run it back home and do some emergency repairs. Thanks for sharing Gerry!!
Rick, Good idea. A pontoon boat is way too big to lift with one hand while propping a board under one pontoon like I did! 😀

Hi Gerry, the SS lag screws were best option for repair with boat on trailer. With boat off trailer, I would recommend replacing lag screws with SS bolts and locknuts (with bolt beads countersunk).
Rod, I agree and that is what I showed you I did with the new bunks. Much easier to install with a hex head rather than the Phillips head of a screw. Gerry
Dog gone it Gerry now I have you to blame for me having more work to do. The last time I pulled my boat out of the lake my left bunk tipped a little to the left so now I'm pretty sure I might have the start of the same problem so Thanks a Lot for giving me more work. To be serious now Gerry I am so glad you made this video so I know what I'm facing and can repair it or in some cases I pay one of my Amish friends to fix stuff for me. I see your over 3000 Subs now. I remember winning one of your giveaways when you hit 1000 and my Daughter actually caught some Rock Bass with the worms you gave me. It must be rough to wear shorts and a T Shirt on January 1rst when we were comfy in insulated coveralls and sipping coffee by the wood stove.
Steve, I have to be here in shorts and a T shirt because I could not be up there wearing insulated coveralls and drinking hot coffee. That is because I have had less than five cups of coffee, and even less of tea, so I need to be some place warm! 🥶

Tom, I thought about that but I am not sure if composition boards would support the boat in places where is is not supported directly with the bunk brackets, especially on the very ends of the boards where they would go into the water. They may be a better board but since these lasted eight years I home this last until 2030. 😁 Gerry

Gerry, I'm have a problem with a controller on the twin troller. I purchased a replacement, and the motor still does not run. The motor runs if you wire it direct to battery. I haven't found anyone local to work on it. Any suggestion?
Jacky, swap your connector wires and does the pedal drive the motor then? If so, either you have a problem with your wiring (use a millimeter to test the wires using the other pedal wires as a template since that one works) or your controller is bad. You said you replaced that controller. How long ago? Still under warranty from FEM? If so contact them. If it is not still under warranty it sounds like you need to buy another controller. 😞 Gerry
