  • I recorded my explorations of Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin in 2019. As well as being a functioning cemetery, it's one of Dublin's top tourists' attractions with an amazing history, marvelous artwork, and fascinating stories. This video illustrates why you may wish to add this national necropolis to your 'must see' list.

I finally went to the cemetery in December 2023 after it hadn't worked out the year before due to time constraints. I was overwhelmed by the size, the atmosphere and the many graves and monuments - and the stories behind them. I spent a long time at the cemetery, but didn't see everything by far. The next time I'm in Dublin, the cemetery will be on my list again.

England really owes Ireland a profound apology. The wrong they did can never be righted. So many brave men and women who gave their life for Ireland in Glasnevin should NEVER be forgotten. God Bless Ireland

It's way too late for an apology, what they done cannot be forgiven by Irish people.

I was there recently refreshing my parents grave marker which had gotten very dishevelled looking. But walking through the cemetery you can't help but to stop and look at some of the very Ye Olde graves and read the inscriptions on them One thing that is very obvious on many of the graves from the early 19 th century and onward's was how young people were when they died. I saw one sad grave marking whereby a father and husband lost his wife and his six children, all at very young ages . His wife in her 20's and his children aged from 2 months to 7 years of age all dying one after the other but not in that order, and he lived into his early 60's . What that poor man went through is truly unbelievable.. Many adults died in their early 40's to early 50's. You see very few that lived till their 70's to 80's . Children in those days died from diseases that we can cure with one visit to the doctor nowadays and most children being inoculated at an early age from those diseases like Whooping cough, measles, T.B, Scarlet fever etc etc etc.

Behan's statue - 'Royal' (not Grand) Canal. Probably mixed up with Kavanagh's? Kearny's "Amhrann na b'Fiann/Soldier's Song" 'national' (not state) anthem.

This is a amazing production for a amateur video producer I assume. Blending in the right music with the perfect amount of silence and informative voice over narration.
However, the narrator needs to spit a bit more frequently as it sounds like his mouth is packed with saliva thats rolling off his lips and into his lap, covering the microphone used in a layer of liquid. lol.. I can hear it so strongly I had to say as if that aspect was cleaned up this would be considered a Hollywood product.
