- I recently joined Laoise de Brún BL, a barrister and CEO of The Countess and Graham Linehan, Irish comedy writer and memoirist of 'Tough Crowd' for a panel at the Ireland Free Speech Summit on June 18. We discussed 'Speaking Truth on Gender,' with Laoise chairing the panel and introducing her important work at The Countess. The event was hosted by Free Speech Ireland and supported by ADF International.

Great work everyone. I am appalled at blokes demanding that everyone call them “she, her, them, they” etc. their aggression, demanding and name calling is terrible and our government seems to do little or nothing about this. I STAND WITH YOU AND HELEN JOYCE!
The Anglosphere and the English language seems to be more vulnerable to this attach on speech compared to the rest of Western Europe and their languages.
Yes, the Romance languages and Germanic have everything sex-based, nouns, articles and adjectives.
I am convinced this began with an unholy alliance in California between adherents to Herbert Marcusé's cultural Marxism, cross pollinating their ideas with the ideas of French Postmodernist/pædophile Jaques Derrida.
Universities are a closed shop with ideas only permitted in via the peer review process which, as we know, is now ideologically 'laundered'.
So, coming from America the ideababble was most readily perceived by Anglophone countries.
I have heard that it is now seeping into non Anglophone cultures, but it has taken longer.
The idea of gender separate from sex I believe was formulated by French feminist philosopher Simone De Beauvoir in her book "The second sex'.
Beauvoir maintained that womanhood was a product, a construct, of society, 'proper' woman were performing a role prescribed by men.
Hence the creation of the Feminist title "Ms" and the demand that men should not assume sexual accommodations appropriate for women (holding doors open, standing on buses, unisex clothing and unisex toilets).
The trans activism movement, I fear, is a descendant of second wave feminism, snatched up by and grafted onto the gay lobby.

Laoise, we hear you. The sight of Mary Lou spouting about 'men with wombs' made her a total laughing stock. Our Oireachtas has been captured by NGOs - sectional interest groups who have no interest in democratic opinion. Women of Ireland stand up and stop handing over our power to men. Stella and Graham, you are both heroes - I am so sorry that the trans lobby have made your lives so difficult.

Since the Cass report has come out the UK media has gone very quiet on the issue!
Now Dr Cass has accepted a peerage and will serve in the House of Lords and Ladies.
The only problem I have with the panel is, saying this gender ideology is hard-left. I am left-wing and I totally disagree with gender ideology. I see nothing left-wing in gender ideology.
As a trans widow I laud Stella for her evolution of thought in this sphere. I collect the only data on our experiences in the world and see the "trans political class" as largely our ex-husbands, who have always been very quick to defame, vilify and even physically attack us (data shows in 1/3 of the cases with 61 trans widows reporting) despite their financial and career successes, often in the tech world. In the tech world, where many, many AGPs and fetish-confused men work, the major companies, Google, Apple, Microsoft &etc dictate speech to their employees and provide internal communication groups, affinity groups, in which pornography-interested men gather. This may have to do with the preponderance of males exhibiting the black and white thinking of autistic behavior, drifting into the sexual obsessions of "trans." The mental health field, in my opinion, has acquiesced to these men who have the tech expertise, perceived as new wisdom.

2 The American DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychological/Psychiatric Association) is not regarded as a reliable textbook in Britain. It has several very severe theoretical flaws in its formation.
Agreed! Helen Joyce is a mathematician with a scientific mind. She always speaks knowledgeably and has a great memory for facts.
American DSM has some mistakes in it.
I believe she used to be invited on there regularly as someone working at the economist for other issues. As soon as she applied her objectivity to this she was immediately blacklisted
