  • Tour the interior of ARCTIC MONKEY, 2015 Garcia Exploration 45, with Ryan Helling of Swiftsure Yachts. When blue water legend Jimmy Cornell set out to create his ideal cruising boat for the Northwest Passage, the hallmarks of the new design were a strong yet performance oriented hull that could be easily sailed, lived-aboard and maintained by a full or short-handed crew. Collaborating with renowned French boatbuilders, Garcia Yachts, the aluminum Exploration 45 was born and quickly received high praise as "Best Boat" and "Boat of the Year" in 2015 by discerning critics. Following this directive, Arctic Monkey was commissioned in Cherbourg that same year and has proven herself through voyages from Greenland to Alaska ever since. Equally capable in gales to calms, her well conceived sail handling systems, dual helms and rudders, centerboard, and secure interior nav station with 270-degree view make passagemaking and any-latitude-cruising safe and comfortable. #garciayachts

    Dry cosy and warm inside while outside a storm is threatening and minus 10 degree celsius.

    I’m curious what kind of speeds can you get with this boat? I know it’s pretty heavy and not built for it.
    Let’s say the seas are relatively flat. All I could find is that it averages 8 on long voyages.

      Pete Goss upped the swing keel and surfed it to 18 knots reach/downwind -> try and beat that

    The accessories for the larger Garcia 52 cost about the same as those of the 45. Might as well save up a few more years and get the 52.

    @SwiftsureYachts thanks for the reply! Is she still on the market? Does the chain ever snag running that distance aft? How do you free it if you get a snag with the chain or warp in the conduit?

    How much does a new Garcia 45 cost? I tried googling it but I guess I find second hand prices. I really want to retire early and sail around the world but I want to know how much to save in order for that.

    Thanks for the video. I heard great thinks about the Garcia Exploration boats and trust they are great for higher latitudes. I wonder if you could comment about their overall speed and also usability in hot climates? I keep thinking whether the needed insulation required on extremely cold environments might be a problem on hot environments.

      I don't have one, so I don't really know. That being said, they sell it as an all-weather yacht. So, in theory you could use it in the tropics as any other boat.
      But again, I don't own one so I am not qualified to confirm this.

      The insulation will help keep heat out in hot climates as well as cold in cold climates. And I believe there's air conditioning as well.
      As for speed I can't say not having sailed one but I'm willing to bet you won't get blistering speed out of it but more than enough for exploration sailing which isn't really about speed.

    Can you remove the engine easily if necessary?

    • @SwiftsureYachts
      @SwiftsureYachts  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, there is good access to the engine compartment from above. It is located beneath the cabin sole at the base of the companionway. It could easily be removed via the companionway.

    TIP = Turn off music and noise when you are speaking. Not sure how that "trend" started where people on youtube turn off music when no one is speaking and turn on loud music as soon as someone speaks. What is that? So weird.

      someone obviously doesn't understand what an exploration vessel is designed for and thinks this is some Caribbean cruiser
