- A 74-year-old retired housekeeper allegedly robbed an Ohio bank with a gun. However, Ann Mayers is reportedly hoping authorities show some sympathy because she says she's also a crime victim. Mayers says she was driven to desperation because she had been cheated out of her life savings by a scammer. The FBI issued an alert saying scams against seniors are on the rise. Inside Edition’s Ann Mercogliano has more.
Robbing a bank and getting just 500 dollars is a scam 😂
😂😂😂
Damn the senior citizens can't take a break.
Exactly! She deserves prison for idiocy alone 😂
GTAV making it look easy 😂
😂😂😂😂
-Robbing a bank for 500 dollars in exchange for 5 years in prison is absolute worth it
Yep, this is society
Five years? Try 40!! She took a gun
@@mikegee9387Prove it you don’t know what was in the bag?
it was armed robbery. lot more than 5 years. in florida, she'd probably be getting life... although at her age her sentence in ohio will also be life lol
@@Leonkiller-hn2he it doesn't matter what was in the bag if she told them she had a gun.
People, check on your parents and grandparents!!!😢
dont worry my grandma said blockbuster called her and helped pay a 3000 dollar late fee to them by screensharing her computer from an india call center
Glad I don't have to worry about that anymore
I did. They’re not thugs.
People should really talk about scammers to their elderly relatives since they’re so naive.
Can't speak for anyone else, just my own experience trying to tell my old folks about scams. Problem is they're A) naive and B) believe that since they're older they know better. They got scammed. Four times.
@@MyToastyToast Commit them or have a conservatorship.
@@MyToastyToast 100% . I followed my mom's advice for many years, but on so many new things I tried so hard to coach her (like creating her own user ID and password for required things), and she just can't/won't do it. Other instances, like you said, she thinks she knows better because of her wisdom and experience.
The bank really needs to take extra measures to intervene on things like this. $3.4 billion is a ridiculous amount to allow to get stolen, and that amount will only encourage more scams in the future.
I luckily got my mom to listen to my sister because she didn’t believe me when I told her she’s in the process of being scammed. They almost got her to go to Walgreens and get $500 dollars worth of something but to scan the qr code they sent her. It’s sad how far people have fallen. I know scammers have been here for the entirety of mankind but it’s way easier now with everything being online
The banks need to protect their account holder’s money a little better. Why do they allow these huge wire transfers to foreign countries?!! This is ridiculous.
I work with seniors through the federal government and I can tell you, these seniors will fall for anything if scammers offer them free things
Local HVAC company offered me a free furnace service. I was like nothing is free lady, don't call me again. 🤣
@mph5896 you must not be elderly 😊
Oh well
At 74 years old getting convicted of armed robbery is a life sentence, regardless of the specifics of the sentence.
hmm...
She'll get probation
she won't go to prison

And if the bank calls you ?
@@supportmytroups7especially when the bank calls you
@@supportmytroups7 Banks rarely if ever call customers.
Same here. To easily recognize who may be calling, place a random photo in the pic area so that you can recognize that person. I use all sorts of pics for my contacts to easily recognize who's calling when caller ID pops up. If I don't see that photo, I don't answer. I also disabled the messenger. You get lots of phone messages these days. You don't know who's really calling, especially with AI now. I can't take that chance anymore.
@@supportmytroups7 then you ignore and go to the bank and ask what the call is for.
So she
- fell for a scam
- spoke to family members about the idea of robbing banks
- robbed a bank for less than a grand
- spoke to cops without a lawyer
Not too bright is she?
The way you put this, it sounds like a sympathy play on the courts and the "viral" world.
The judge should give her community service, and a lot of it.

I also like, "Trilogy Media."
Don't forget Jim Browning and Kitboga!

I can almost guarantee she thanked the teller after she got the money.

The other scam against seniors is being perpetrated by the IRS.
Scamming is stealing, but robbing a bank is stealing too.
damn Grandma ...
She’s the Two-Time! Got scammed a second time for just getting $500.
It’s ok for banks to do it and ALL of the scammers to do it without being investigated or even attempted to be found. Grandma does it and she is arrested!! 🤔
Why is no one talking about the innocent Uber driver
There’s a part of me that feels really bad for her. I hope they go light on her, poor thing. I hope the bank teller is okay too. Our nation could easily stop these scammers and help our elders if they just Fn tried 😢

Do old people not watch the news? I have yet to hear a story of someone old getting rich from one call on the phone, 100% of the time is them being scammed.
While l disapprove of her actions l do have utmost sympathy for her. It's nonsense that the banks continue to not act over these scams and perhaps if more people reacted like this woman they would start. Far too many people getting robbed online and far too easy for the banks to say they can't do anything.
Hopefully, individuals will get other and pressure the banks to change their systems to protect against this.
How could we tell them to stop answering the strange phone number? Is it really that hard? I don't know at this point. Just make sure to alert your old parents about this, they may need it
