Black Symphony is the best concert DVD ever. If you haven't seen it from start to finish then you have missed an absolute treat
You would think it would have taken them a lot of effort to convince the orchestra, and this being one of the greatest orchestra's in the country, to play along. Actually it was the conductor of the orchestra who contacted them to see if they were interested. Sharon and Robert nearly fell out their chairs when he asked. Their reaction was we would not be making this music if we would not love to perform this live with an orchestra. That would a dream come true.
Once you go Sharon.... She blows you away and you are hooked! I fell for her voice and looks 27 years ago and I haven't recovered! I don't want to recover to!
Sharon and Robert a couple with 3 kids since mid90's.
The orchestra is the Metropole Orkest from the Netherlands and they are one of the few orchestras in the world that do these sort of projects on a regular basis and as such are really experienced at it. They can switch from orchestral work to big band (their rhythm section is particularly adept at switching to all styles of music) to jazz to pop to world music. They have worked with some of the biggest artist in their field and in the last few years have played in several Proms seasons in the Royal Albert Hall including a special concert dedicated to the multifaceted music of Quincy Jones.
You wouldn't believe it looking at her, or hearing her sing, but Sharon was actually VERY ill and had JUST gotten her voice back in time for the Black Symphony shows.
The way that Sharon always moving her hand around, I am convinced she could actually see the shape of music dancing around her and she could control them too.
Try "Somewhere" from the same concert, tears me up every time
they have done some subsequent one-off full scale shows, maybe a smaller orchestra/choir. .
Sharon's interpretive dancing.. she is a KATE BUSH fan from youth..
Regarding the nasal quality: in the days leading up to this concert she was actually ill. I think she didn’t sing at the dress rehearsal or at least not much. So she wasn’t at her 100% best.

I remember seeing them at venues where you could actually still see them up close. Crowds with 50-100 people tops. The Black Symphony concert was INSANE! Impossible to top 😉
