  • This is for the newest version of the pavilion x360. I couldn't find any other videos for the ram upgrade, so I made one. The screws and placements are very different from older ones. This laptop/tablet can be upgraded to 16gb. Let me know what you think!

This video is immensely helpful if you REALLY want to upgrade this laptop, but after watching this video, I became fully convinced that I would not want to try it because it would be too tedious for a non-tech typical home user like me to upgrade the RAM on this laptop even if it is doable. It seems HP went out of its way to design this laptop to make it very hard to upgrade so that the buyer would be forced to buy a higher priced up model.

Take your time. Pace yourself. Take pictures. I wasn't any sort of computer maintenance either. Just spend time doing research instead of saying you can't.

I have had the same reaction. I planned to upgrade it but when I watched the video I gave up and put the ram into another HP laptop. It's doable but omg, ram is supposed to be the easiest thing to change in a laptop and they did total shit there. I think I'll try later, anyway ram price in 2023 is super low

Thanks so much for this video! Great video!
ADDITIONAL SUGGESTION FOR THOSE WATCHING THIS VIDEO - don't forget to plug in the wireless adaptor when you remove (and reconnect) the mother board! Unless i missed it in the video, other than removing the little wire before moving the mother board, you should also make sure to watch out for the wireless card! I totally missed it and then had to trouble shoot why my network adapter is "missing" after installing the ram.

Thanks for the video! Although I've been building computers on/off for many years now, this one was the most challenging. If you have large hands, this upgrade may be a bit tricky especially if the wireless module becomes disconnected. I did find it helpful during reassembly to attach the touchpad cable first and then tilt the keyboard so I could insert/connect the keyboard cable.

HP designing their laptops like this actually turned me off of laptops for a while. It's incredibly frustrating that they'd make you pull the whole thing apart and put it together again for more memory.
Had one like this as a teenager before I knew what to look for in a laptop, and it was hell trying to upgrade it myself. Now I use an old Fujitsu with 8GB RAM and SSD because there's only six screws in your way. (Also two RAM slots which HP rarely bothers with either)

I found one this year (Nov 2018) coming with 16 already. I'm thinking about it. Hopefully it's not already maxed. One side you'd think newer and already more is possible, but then they aren't expecting you to upgrade, and 16 has been the max in the past.

There is a variant of this motherboard that allows you to use a m.2 ssd. Does anyone know if this variant.(W/o the slot for the M.2) are pre-wired and allow for you to put in this adapter in and use a m.2 SSD?
